Tyrrell's Classic Workshop

Tyrrell's Classic Workshop

Күн бұрын

This time round, we've got something really rather special to share with you all, so much so that Iain would go so far as to consider it a career highlight, and that's quite something considering the cars he'd had the honour of working on including the Italian Job Miura.
The feud between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari is one of legend and centres around clutch problems that Ferruccio had with a Ferrari 250 GT. That particular car has long been a missing part of the story, with a good friend of Iain's and Lamborghini historian Olivier Nameche spending decades piecing together the clues to bring this car back to light. And now 60 years after that famous confrontation in a restaurant in Modena, it may finally have been found!
Join Iain as he delves into the history of how Lamborghini cars came into being, as he travels to Italy to authenticate the long-lost car, and as he calls on a couple of handily resident tractors in the workshop to help try and solve another part of that legendary tale.
With thanks to Olivier Nameche for all his efforts that made this possible.

I heard Lamborghini tell the story in person to about six people. (Well, through a translator.) It was in 1988 at the 25th anniversary celebration at the factory. He said that he had complained to Enzo that the clutch in his Ferrari was too weak and had to be replaced too often. He told Enzo that his tractors had good, strong clutches and he could show Ferrari how to improve the clutch. Ferrari said something to the effect that "You stick to building tractors and I'll build the cars." I wish I had recorded the conversation with Lamborghini, but there were no smartphones in 1988. It was a great trip.

One must say this is the most enthralling unravelling of a mystery and episode of Tyrrell's workshop ever, so far. Simply splendid. I think most of the charm comes from Tyrrell being such a nerd with lambo, actually has three tractors to self investigate and marry up the clutch lol. Thoroughly entertaining. Hurry up with episode two, can't leave a man not knowing the outcome.
