My grandfather was from Homms. He recently passed away and never have I seen Homms mentioned in any KZbin video I’ve come across. I am in tears thank you for this video. Homms truly makes the most amazing souls to walk this earth. Those ladies seemed so kind. I pray one day I can see my grandfathers home. He was a carpenter, he was Christian and the best person I’ve ever known. God bless Syria 🙏🏼 always in my prayers

I passed through Homms in 2008 in my way from this monastery to Hama. I don’t speak Arabic and lots of people showed me such kindness helping me find my way. Great people.

I am from Kerala India and my community is called Syrian Christians. The Syrian Christian church in Kerala is as old as 2000 years. Apostle Thomas came and preached here and was martyred in India. We are called Syrian Christians because the bishops of our church were ordained by bishops from Antioch, Syria, where the early church was based, according to Acts of the Apostles.

This monastery is one of the most famous historical sites in the world. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to visit it in my lifetime. I hope that one day I will be able to return and visit this holy place in Syria. Thank you, Mark, for this video showcasing the beauty of this location and the kindness and hospitality of Christians in Syria, and Syrians in general.

Hi Mark, thats a wonderful video, thank you very much for it. This week, close friends visited my mom. They have lost their second adult child to cancer just a month ago (his brother also died of cancer 10 years ago). They are very believing catholics, and for them, their believe helps them so much to go through those horrible times. I am still a catholic just because I dont want to hurt my late dad. What I want to say and I am maybe very clumsly about it - believing in a higher power, can give you so much strenght and help you so much. Like it does help the people in Syria. Is doesnt matter if there is really a "god" or however you call that higher power. Its just important that people are supported and feel some help. Thank you for being always so respectful and tolerant and non judging.

I was there in 2006 during Lebanon war as many Lebanese were in Syria and my guide took me here. So glad to know this place still exist. It is a Jesuit church. You miss showing the fresco on the wall how it reflects the first level of hell is for religious leaders. That really etched into my mind. Fr. Paul used to gave a resource center at the basement full of literature on Christianity and Islam and he also organised dialogues between these two religious. Visitors are advised to bring some fresh fruits or vegetables to the monastery.

8:25 where he was describing the age of the "fresco" in arabic: i believe he said its 1850 years old? But the interpretor said it was over 1000 years old which is ok also but 850 is alot of years to leave behind with all due respect. But all in all a great vlog about this beautiful monastery
