@wheelguns4wheelmen80222 күн бұрын
@@dkchandler312I see a lot of shooters who buy a new gun and don’t even bother degreasing and then lubing it, expecting it to work right out the box. For a Glock 19, that should be fine given the fact it is not sprung all that heavy and the fit isn’t too tight. But 1911s are precision tools, at least nicer ones (not talking about a Rock Island), and you got to degrease, lube, and break them in. You can also rack and dry fire at home with snap caps and that should work it in slightly. Just shooting it out the box is like putting 85 in a Ferrari.

Granted I think a lot of it is amongst younger people who relive Kimber to be what they call “Fudd” guns and it’s a lot of a trend. Having said that I do think that Kimber had always made nice stuff but their QC has fallen to a lower standard than it did say a decade ago. Idk if it’s true but I’ve also heard their warranty service is horrible as well and if so than any manufacturer who doesn’t stand behind their product is suspect to me. Again idk if that’s true or not?

I found it strange that there was no mention of the external extractor. It is the single biggest difference between this and any other “traditional “ 2011 that I’m aware of it definitely makes a difference in reliability and eliminates the tendency that even some of the really high end builds have of hanging up slightly on the internal ejector of the more more traditional models the slide to frame fit on this is as good as any I have tried and it just effortlessly glides with out that little hitch you normally get at the end of the stroke. I think you are going to see more companies going this route in the future

I bought a Kimber 1911 .45 ACP Stainless II about three years ago. The original mags that came with it caused some jamming. But Kimber later came out with better mags with 8 round capacity that I picked up at Bass Pro. After I got the newer mags, I haven't had any problems with the gun. After many hundreds of rounds, it works well with zero hangups. The improved difference was from the newer mags that I bought, IMO.

My Kimber experience is based on one firearm purchased and it's been stellar. Yeah, I know, it's a sample of one, but most of us who can't afford a new firearm every week don't get many comparisons to play with. That being said, I've run somewhere between 5000-6000 rounds through it, maybe more, most being my hand loads. Some were hot, most are mid-range velocity. I had some failure to go into battery at the tail end of those 5000 rounds, expected, as I was using the original springs. New spring kit, off and running. It's the Pro-Carry 4" with Crimson Trace grips, factory installed, .45 ACP. It's my only .45ACP, also the most accurate of all pistols I own including other calibers (most are 9mm). I started out in my shooting adventures in the early '80s, a Sig P226, so yeah, I'm an old guy who still casts, powder coats, loads and shoots every caliber I own, except of course the .22LR. Thanks for your evaluations Chris, you're a trusted source.

I own 3 1911s. 1st was a Colt Defender, it went back to Colt 3 times and they never fixed it. Local gunsmith worked some magic polishing feedramp and changed a few bits and it runs like a champ. My wife stole that one and it was replaced by a Kimber Ultra Carry II. It was and still is flawless and stupid accurate. 3rd is a Sig Revolution GSR. It is accurate, reliable, and super sexy with G10 grips. That being said, Kimber has the best trigger of all 3 and has never failed to put a smile on the face of anyone who shoots it.
@FLplinker8 күн бұрын
I like you started off with a Colt Defender that had $800 dollars worth of factory issues that I would have to pay for and then they couldn't tell when I would get it back if I sent it in. I promptly sold that firearm and bought a Kimber Ultra Carry. I've never had a problem. I had similar issues with my Gold Cup National Match and sold it to buy a Grand Raptor. I currently own 3 different raptor models and I've never had one problem!

Maybe I've just had good luck, but I've owned 4 Kimbers, and they have all run flawlessly. Had some light .45 handloads that the TLE wasn't a big fan of but ate absolutely anything else. The Rapide (9mm), Desert Warrior, and Micro 9 have given me absolutely zero issues, and I've shot the ever-loving shit out of those. Dad and brother also have about 6 Kimbers between them and never any issues. I realize that a sample size of 10 isn't big but some of them were bought during the "bad quality" years and not a problem from them.

I'm looking to jump back into competition shooting, specifically Limited Optics. I own a few 2011s and DS 1911s, but none of them are cut for an optic. I rented a Staccato XL that had an SRO installed, since it's almost a dead ringer for my current STI DVC 3-gun. While I liked it, I was not thrilled that the price was $600 over what I paid for my STI. So now I'm looking around for another gun since I don't want to butcher my STI. So far, high end 2011s are too high for me now, whereas the lower end ($1100 or less) need several hundred more to get to acceptable levels for me to consider them for competition. I'm assuming that this Kimber will take STI/Staccato mags, which is a big plus for me since I already have a lot here, and from other reviews, triggers are acceptable out of the box. So now comes the "never buy brand new models" to finish, especially after the Prodigy had teething problems. I will revisit this again after a lot of these our out in shooter's hands and have been wrung out in various competitions. Thanks for the review.

I have owned a fair number of guns over the years. I have owned or currently own guns from Smith & Wesson (several revolvers and polymer semi-autos) Ruger (revolvers and self-loading rifles) Uberti, Pietta, Springfield Armory, Remington (1911), Mossberg, SIG USA, Bersa, Benelli, Winchester, Rossi, palmetto State armory (rifle and handgun), Kel Tec, and Kimber. I have bought guns both new and used. Some of them didn't work out of the box, and some of them broke. some of them were so badly fit from the factory that they required the attention of a gunsmith to function well or at all. But I have only ever owned ONE gun that was unsafe to fire out of the box. That gun was a brand new Kimber TLE II 10mm. Not SIG. Not PSA. Not Bersa. Not Rock Island or Rossi. Kimber. I don't care how good it looks on KZbin. Or what features it has. I will never own another Kimber.
