Unexplained NPC Invincibility in GTA IV

It's used in many missions in the game because the devs often use set pieces to make the mission more fun/special. If the player is able to instantly kill the NPC at the start of the mission, they miss the set pieces and the hard work the devs put into making them. But it can often be annoying for players who have played through the game multiple times.

They should've coded it so your bullets always miss him, its less jarring than seeing liters of blood come out of his skull and still talking shit on his bike lol

Dardan is a funny one because you can kill him before the chase if you're fast enough to aim and shoot right after the fight.

Crazy thing is, GTA IV is still far less restrictive than GTA V, where walking a few steps outside the scripted sequence at the time the game deems incorrect fails you.

Man i really hated that mission on the train with trevor. Everytime you fall off the train with super bouncy motorcycle you just fail instantly.

The bouncer of hercules club in tbogt is immortal to other npcs. If you hit him mad at you and the polices sees him hitting you, the police will start shooting at him but he will not take any damage

Good video. I think it's highly likely the mission designers wanted to script a unique scene of chasing someone on a bike while dodging trains. Very few instances where they could work it into a mission and this is probably one of those they came up with.

Off topic questions but 1- is customizable johnny and luis compatible with the complete edition 2-the sprint in interiors doesn't have the forgot this fo dlcs does this mean i don't have to use openiv

Yes, those two customizable player mods work on the Complete Edition. Sprint in Interiors requires OpenIV to be used.

Ohhh sorry, I didn’t know what you meant. He updated the mod recently (I think a couple of weeks ago) and made it easier. So everything should be inside their appropriate folders. Just follow his instructions if needed (he has them written on his GTA forums page).

I'm of the belief the invincibility of certain mission NPCs is due to Rockstar wanting people to experience the chases plain and simple there's nothing else to it imo since in that case why not make all NPCs invincible until a certain point is met

That’s from ZMenuIV! You can enable it by going to Options > Info Display > Wallhack > and then there should be something about peds and their health status. You can even do the same for cars and other entities. Additionally, you can enable other displays like entity velocity (speed), armor status, distance from the player, etc.

If only we could disable all of these chases. But since all but one are story related, I wouldn't bother to download the mod just go kill the biker faster. lol. Cool video though.
