I found all of these social media, Skype call, website, and etc horror movies to be unintentionally hilarious. It's like...get offline and you'll be fine. It's not like the ones where someone is for some reason in the middle of nowhere with no means of self defense or way to call someone but they're being followed.
@nozoto
@nozoto 2 жыл бұрын
The rise of internet also means the way to get formerly very little known knowledge available with a couple of clicks. Horror draws impact from what comes from the poorly known and the share of doubt coming with it. There's countlessly more suspense in a retro horror movie, with a character who has to find a phone asap to warn someone threatened, for instance. This state of instant transmission of information has greatly harmed the genre, in my opinion. That's why producers have to imagine new convoluted movie concepts, in order to keep this flame alive. Sad that the price is to have characters even dumber than in the old amateur exploitation movies.

This review is literally the only thing redeeming that movie's existence. It baffles me that so many people fell for the gimmick and insist that it's _so_ creative and not yet another garbage found footage film with agressively hateable character, the likes of which we've seen a thousand times before. And Hell, it's not even like using some kind of online call for horror is a wholy original idea itself. Off the top of my head, I'm immediately thinking of that one _V/H/S_ segment which did it much better IMO, not to mention myriads of KZbin videos and web series. Also, if y'all like the idea of a story told entirely through online interactions, but would also like to see it done well, with characters you care about, and that actually makes a strong point about the influence of digital media on our lives, for the better and for worse, I highly recommend _Searching._ It's not horror, more like a crime thriller, but it's sooooo freaking good. One of the best films of 2018 IMO.

Apparently a LOT of people rate films with likable characters that die VERY low rather often. That's why we keep getting films where NOONE in the cast is good, but instead people you WANT to see die. Some even walk out or ask for their money back when the likable ones die. People are stupid.

Teen Wolf is actually not a bad show. And I think this was a sort of 4th wall break, since the gal playing Blaire is the werecoyote Malia Tate on that show! Btw, I wonder how the hacker guy died... his webcam fell down under his desk and he looks down there, sees the internet ghost just chumming along, and stares at her until she I guess kills him... somehow? How does an incorporeal internet ghost get out of the net, anyway? Don't they need a portal for that, like when the Turtles had to save Splinter bytes? :D

Fun fact the reason why the Skype call is so glitchy was they used the glitch effects to hide the fact that there was transitions and cuts that's the only reason why the glitches are there so there are still scene transitions that's what the glitch effects are they were just used to hide them. I can tell you this as somebody who uses Skype almost every day this is not representative of how Skype is even the worst Skype calls would never glitch like this the worst that's ever happened to me is the audio cut out and then we had to hang up and redo the call.

Skype calls dropping out is a great point, because if the movie wanted quiet moments for the girl and her boyfriend to text privately, they could have done so when the call cut out until everyone came back in But, to be honest, them muting the dialogue of her friends in the background is pretty low on my list of sins in this movie. It could easily be explained as main girl's perspective, and since she was focusing on the texts she blocked out her friend's voices. It's a movie, after all, we stretch the truth all the time to make the experience better. Not that the story in this movie is good enough to carry it....

I had to start the download before going in to work, knowing it would take hours. It ended up being around 8 hours for a 902mb file. She's only getting a slightly higher speed than that! Man it’s so clear how the non-Skype call stuff was come up with separately and probably after filming it. Like, Blaire hardly ever seems like she knows what she’s typing

Phelous, this is the remastered special edition version of your review. Where's the original? I mean it has music added and other edits. However I like the soothing original no music version of it. Please unGeroge Lucas yourself and bring us back the original one!!!

HE TOUCH! Yeah this is one of my favorite older reviews too. I can see the reasons for the re-upload, but am I having a Mandela effect moment or is there more background music?

The Laura Barns video that started this whole movie is still on KZbin, the account being allowed to function because it's an astroturf account owned by Universal. So you can't upload Mortal Kombat vids without having to blur out the blood, but if you're a film studio, you can upload anything and get away with it since it's just advertising. As if you need more of a reason why I hate this site besides anti-SJWs and paid-to-be-there late night talk show segments.
