As a former used car dealer and possibly a future one as well, I FEEL YOUR PAIN! It never fails that the people that pay you all the money love you and the ones that you end up making only $500 on are a pain in the butt. Never fails! I learned to stop doing skinny deals and just turning those people away, it's just not worth it. Make sure you make them sign at least 3 different documents that they understand the vehicle is being sold AS-IS. I've literally had customers call me and yell at me 6 months after buying a used car because the headlight went out. "You knew it had a bad headlight"! WTF? People are just insane and mentally ill. Even though it's only a few dollars to fix the headlight for them at any auto parts store and maybe 5 minutes of installation, you are the bad guy because you are a used car dealer. Guilty WAY before anything even happens. When I got out of the car business, it was a relief that I no longer had to tell people that I was a car dealer when they asked what I did for a living. You're automatically labeled as a scumbag, it sucks, but part of the territory. Another reason why you NEVER sell a vehicle unless they test drive it. And always say NO when they ask if they can take it to their mechanic to have it inspected before they buy it. The mechanic will ALWAYS give them a laundry list of things it needs, leaks, etc. 100% of the time it will kill the deal, just say no, but you are welcome to bring your mechanic with you to the lot and inspect it here. At least that way your vehicle doesn't leave the property and it wastes less of your time.

I totally get what your saying I sold wrecked cars in my younger years I noticed it was way harder to sell a 2000 dollar car over a 10,000 dollar car. And the people who always want more photos when you explain perfectly what is wrong with it and what needs to be fixed. Never end up buying it. All they do is waste your time.

its such a pain when people have something so little go out like a headlight they just want to get upset before realizing these things need replacing and it takes only a few dollars and a few minutes people are brainwashed into thinking everything is super expensive to fix because theyve been paying 100 dollars for an oil change

As a Southern California used car dealer that is very similar to you in inventory and car prices. Your points are 110% correct. The people have a $5,000 budget, want the car that is $15,000 and expectation. Then are mad when the 1st thing goes wrong on the car they bought, bring it into a upsell service center and come out with a list of repairs for $5,000.

This video is as real as it gets. I’m a dealer myself. One of the most unfortunate things about the business is the stigma that as a dealer your going to rip them off or how some people think we owe them something because we are dealers. People that give off that vibe or similar I just politely push to the side to avoid issues. We all end up with that crazy customer that wants to push to get a little more after the deal. As a dealer we know these people cannot be pleased so don’t even bother. They just want to take advantage and with experience you will be able to tell. What makes up for it is when we get a really respectful customer through the door that helps balance things out.

Craig sometimes you have to sell cars to inmates, not saying all people are inmates, but that some people just expect to be fed, because that's how they live. I remember guarding an inmate at a hospital, where they kept asking for pain meds, food, pop, juice, said sure ill see if they can help. Well the nurse gave him a juice, he smiled as he drank and said, I'm done, can I have another (third drink at this point) he finished, i shook my head no to the nurse, he said why, aren't you about customer service here! he didn't say thank you but smiled as he handed it back. they will just try to see what they can get out of you, manipulation is there tactic against the honest hard working people.

Just watch the Peoples Court. Judge Marilyn Milian, WIll tell any buyer of a used car, you buy it As IS,. She will also say, did you try the car out before buying? This is the message I send out to my customers after almost every purchase: "If you could take a minute to leave me a 5 star rating as a seller it would really help me grow as a seller here on Facebook Marketplace. Thanks again and enjoy!" And you're right, rarely do they ever follow through with a review even if they're 100% happy. I'd say maybe one in ten actually gives out a review. But if someone is unhappy, almost 100% guarantee negative review.

I've flipped a couple of cars and got the fever. It's a dream to work for myself and do something like you do, but after so many years of dealing with the public, I just can't anymore. People have gotten terrible to deal with. Maybe one day, I can retire early from my day job and help out a small dealership like yours in being a buyer. I'd love to just go to auctions and buy the cars without having to deal with selling them to the Karens! Also, you're 100% correct that selling cheap cars sucks. My flips were under $1000 purchases. The "bottom of the barrel" clientele you mention was the exact same description I used. My patience couldn't take it anymore. Those type of people can often be downright dangerous to deal with when something doesn't go their way. I drove truck for 14 years. A number of years ago, I had to choose between two truck stops in a major city both of which had terrible reviews. When I pulled into the truck stop, I was astonished. The parking lot, that reviews had said was full of holes and garbage everywhere, was in excellent condition with no garbage anywhere. The on-site motel was in great shape and clean despite reviews to the contrary. The main building was incredible. It was hospital clean with floors I could eat off of. The restaurant was just as clean even in the corners and the service and food was good too. I asked the waitress if there had been a management change. She said no. She was just as puzzled as I was over the reviews. Before I left that restaurant, I posted a sparkling review and showed it to the waitress. The used car industry has a lot of company when it comes to unwarranted bad reviews.

Not a used car story but used tires. A kid comes into the Garage I worked at on a Sunday. This was in the late 1970s. I did oil changes, tire repair, and sold new and used tires. A Teenager comes in with a hopped up 66 Chevy II. He bought a set of well used matching 70 series 14" tires. I mounted them, bubble balanced them, and put them in his car. All this for at the time for $35 dollars. Nimrod pulls out of the shop burning rubber. He blows a tire. The only gaurentee he got was they didn't leak air. The Boss told him to either buy another tire or leave. He put his bald spare on and left.

I would like to commend for bringing this type of situation up. I also experienced the same situation I run a storage facility, it didn't escalate to your level, and it's not fun to deal with. Thank you for what you're doing for the public.

On the flipside, it's also become so tough to navigate reviews as a potential customer. Along with typically many reviews coming from bad experiences+Karens and fewer reviews coming from good experiences, there are many other concerns. Companies can easily make accounts to write their own fake positive reviews or just purchase them. People review bomb with their families/friends to ruin the score. So many reasons. Both ends of the spectrum get tainted. That's why I think these KZbin videos are so valuable. Admittedly I probably won't need a vehicle anytime in the near future, but if I did, I would happily buy from Flying Wheels (I'd probably pick up a Jeep) and recommend friends to check the inventory and consider.

Id watch product reviews and while they may be paid you get to watch its use 🧐 work backwards from there.

Exactly how it should be run. If you come out the gate fighting don’t expect anyone to help you. But if you plead your case and are respectful then you should be treated well if the seller was ok with it.

What's shocking is that the medical profession actually kills people and teachers appear to be open groomers but everyone gets bent about car dealers. Lawyers are the worst however. lol.

I am one of the few that goes out of their way to make the effort to leave good reviews and positive feedback where it is merited. I am very aware that people love to complain, sometimes without any moral ground to do so, but I maintain that it is important to push back and also reward those who deserve praise especially because of the unfair ration of negative reviews. In addition I take this approach because my own work comes from recommendation in it's various shapes and forms, but for two other reasons ... 1. It is good to promote those that you may want to do business with again in the future and 2. I want people I care about to be the beneficiaries of businesses that are successful because of their customer support. Finally, it costs nothing to be nice to others ... Damn, I now feel 'holier' than I have the right too do so !!! 😂
