I was diagnosed aged 9 and only when I started buying my own sugar free candy as an adult and occasionally overindulging did I realize that most sugar alcohols have a laxative effect. I’d rarely had very much when I was younger. Nowadays a lot of sugar-free candies have maltitol, which not only has some laxative effect but raises blood glucose somewhat: it’s really not a good sweetener. Allulose is gradually replacing sugar alcohols, so one can now buy some candy with allulose and hence not that side-effect.

And yet for those of us who are allergic (not intolerant) to gluten our food is problematic in the opposite way as wheat / barley / oats are replaced with potato and rice, even our chocolate cake is made of potato and rice, please help lol

@@markiangooley The sweetener that acts as a laxative is a not sugar alcohol one, but is the one most used in "hard candies" and in sugar-free cough drops. Halls sugar free cough drops seem to have the strongest laxative effect.

This reminded me of an incident in a Walmart restroom about 20 years ago. The last stall was occupied by some poor woman who may have been experiencing the same level of gastric distress that the reviewer of gummies has described. I felt sorry for her, but all the same I was trying to get my bizness done so I could exit the restroom asap. 20 years ago, I had different musical ringtones for different people, and the song that played when my husband called me was Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire", but just the chorus. Just as she let loose a butt blast that rattled the building, my phone rang and played, "AND it burns Burns, BURNS! That ring of FIIIIRE!" There was a lady washing her hands, only person in there besides me and the poor lady experiencing a weapon of a$$ destruction. Hand-washing lady and I both fled that restroom, trying not to laugh. I told her that I'm changing that ringtone, NOW. She said, "I wouldn't!"😂

Some YT hosts think that 'background music' is helpful while they are telling me how to cook this or fix that or how come a plane crashed. No, it is not at all helpful, but bloody distracting. Music in YT videos only belongs in dance videos or music videos. Not while I am paying attention to what one is saying. So, again, thanks for all the laughs. As I indicated a few minutes ago, I am now a subscriber.

Precious gems. OMG, yes, the gummy bears LOL. In 1982 I bought bulk condoms to give them out. I had NO plans to use them all myself. Handing them out was less successful than I would have hoped. Fast forward......I had a drawerful of expired condoms. Felt kinda sad for each missed opportunity while I threw them out. I get the "mocking" aspect!

The sugar free gummi bears contain the artificial sweetener sorbitol. Too much sorbitol at one time will give you diarrhea. When I was a pharmaceutical salesman in the early 1980's we gave out small boxes of sugarless candies to the receptionist's to try to get in to see the Doctor. We had to warn the recipients not to let children eat the whole box.

I always try to write interesting reviews, but I have never even approached the literary genius of these samples! I like this longer format, too. Fun fact: mannitol, sorbitol and similar "sugar free" substitutes are cathartic laxatives, not diuretics. Diuretics just make you pee a lot. Do more of these, please, 5/5 stars!

Those gummies have been discontinued by the company. (BTW--they're dangerous only in large quantities.) I've never even thought of writing FUNNY reviews. I try so hard to be accurate in my reviews.

@@gy2gy246 GOOD! I wish that food companies wouldn't use sorbitol or mannitol at all. Yes, it's only dangerous _to humans_ in larger quantities, but those chemicals, even in smaller quantities, will make dogs sick. The artificial sweetener, Xylitol, is the worst though, because it can cause hypoglycemia, liver failure, and hepatic necrosis in dogs. Apparently, there are a few brands of peanut butter that use xylitol (why??). None of the major brands do, fortunately. If a dog happened to get one of those jars of xylitol PB, and ate the whole thing, it would be enough to make it very sick and even may die. These "itol" sweetners are sneaky. Often the ingredient list doesn't say which "itol" is used, so mannitol, sorbitol, and xylitol are listed as "alcohol sugars" and they are allowed to call them "natural sweeteners" on the label.😒

I usually see those sweeteners on cough drops and chewing gum and there’s a warning text on them. It’s common sense though to only take a few cough drops/chewing gums so the risk of overconsuming them is not that great.

I've lost count of the 5-star Amazon reviews along the lines of "Haven't used this item yet, but it's SO cool!" But there's the other side - 1-star reviews for woodworking and other tools from people who have never heard of sharpening... How many problems could be solved by that one simple measure - RTFM !!!

When I told my mom about that acronym, wouldn't you know it, the next day I get an email from her telling me about a problem but then she added "Don't tell me to RTFM." - By then I knew she was one of those persons that doesn't learn by reading them but by having folks (and in this case, computer-wise, I was that folk) show her step-by-step. Thank goodness for the remote control programs so I could connect to her system and fix it.

Nurse here with a small point of education. Laxatives and diuretics are not the same thing. Laxatives increase bowel activity while diuretics increase urine production. Also, great video! 😁

I will say there are people that believe they are abducted on a regular basis. They even have groups that meet up and help enforce their "belief". They call themselves alien abduction experiencers. One thing is that physicians and others that try to help will first check a list of medications the experiencers are taking. If a medication says "Lucid dreaming" as a side effect (a lot do), then that probably should be changed. Lucid dreaming is medical speak for alien abductions.

Doesn't take much sorbitol with some people. Many chewing gums also use this, and sometimes one stick of gum can be enough to set off the trumpeting. It is a given that I don't eat anything with sorbitol and I am grateful that I don't have diabetes and therefore have the freedom to just avoid all sugar-free things.

The Haribo Sugarless Gummy Bears 5 Pound Bag reviews are legendary, right up there with the Three Wolf Moon shirt. Sadly, the giant bag of laxatives is no longer available, and its reviews have left with it, but the greatest reviews live on in various corners of the internet. That particular sugar free gummy bear uses a sugar alcohol as a substitute. In some people, not everyone, sugar alcohols cause GI distress. It says right on the bag to limit yourself to 1/4 cup to see how your body reacts before eating more of them.
