Mad respect for those pilots. That's such a scary and complex landing. Bleachers on both sides and those power lines running through made me nervous. Most people don't realize a helicopter can't just go straight down without risking a VRS, which is one of the leading causes of helicopter crashes. A lot of skill and bravery to do that in the noble pursuit of saving another.

It's not a scary complex landing. They more than likely did a high/low pass to identify hazards as a crew, check winds etc. That doesn't even qualify as a confined area landing which are much more complex and take skill to accomplish safely. A helicopter most certainly is capable of landing from a hover straight down, its just not preferred in case it loses a engine it can't fly out safely.

You can not take any chance of paralyzing a child when they suffer a neck injury. If you’ve never been in one, an ambulance couldn’t be farther from a smooth ride and coupled with the risk of the ambulance having a traffic collision or hitting a pothole, it just can’t be risked. When a child could lose his life, or ability to walk forever, there is NO other option regardless of money. Also, as an ex-flight medic, I can say that there are very few families that end up stuck with the bill. In this particular case, there’s no chance of that.
