I normally, don't weigh in on youtube comments. Most of you are just Trolls looking for a angry response. Though I feel some of you are honestly concerned about the fish in the tiny tank. Those are in fact fry, and all though fish can remember, learn tricks, and also be scared of humans. Fry will not be scared or scared for life being in a tank that small, for the small duration of time they were in there. The reason is, Fry are kept in breeder boxes, that often enough are small. This is so that, the filter doesn't eat the fish, the adult fish don't eat them, and so that signs of stress can be seen easy. This is also so, that fish keepers can see if the little ones are eating. As if a baby fish doesn't eat with in so many days of loosing its egg sack * if it hatched* or in these babies case born to a live bearer it is fatal. They are sensitive to water changes, meaning they would have died, in an aquarium that small, with in an hour or two. No air pump, no filter, = death for little fry. They were not in there long enough to kill them, this again was for a record, you can tell by the quality his fry net is, that these fish were put right back into there breeder box, he loves his fish. Fry panic in large tanks, they need smaller breeder boxes or cover, these little guys did not stress when they put in the little tank. Meaning your concerns are not justified by any means. Fry like closed places, that they can see all corners of, as it comforts them. I have been a breeder of dwarf platy's for several years now. Its safe to say, I know my stuff.
@DWAINBOELTER9 жыл бұрын
marchofwolves Clearly a thoughtful and respectful response. It seems to make a number of assumptions though that I don't wish to quibble with here, but I don't think I buy. Just one example: " Fry panic in large tanks"...sorry, but my fry stay in the 18 gallon tank in which they were hatched and seem to have plenty of places to stay safe as my count stays pretty stable after birth. They never panic and seem quite comfortable...not so with those in this video. Not sure how you can say that fry panic in a larger tank as this is 180 degrees opposite of my experience, nor how you can maintain that the fish in the video are not scared, because by comparison to those in my tanks, they look pretty terrified. I strongly suspect that the key difference in our perspectives is because fish get terrified of significant changes (fits with everything I know about cross species fear responses. Yours are familiar with small spaces and therefore show no fear, but do with larger spaces. The point is that being dumped into a 2x2 inch square box is likely generating a fear response as it looks like in the video. Why would it not, unless this were just like their permanent home. I agree on the net quality, but even there, while not a high probability, net injury is not unheard of. Best finding your kicks putting yourself in strange new confined settings. Last, imagine any creature being dragged out of it's environment (water) then back into one. Not a pleasant experience. How would you like to be dragged through water before being dropped back into a normal oxygen rich are mixture again, but in an extremely confined space by creatures hundreds of times your size (the re-make movie of "War of the Worlds" comes to mind. Of course they were terrified; what living organism capable of fear (that's likely over 99% of them) would not be?
@marchofwolves9 жыл бұрын
I normally don't respond to comments either. I have seen babies just born do that behavior, that head movement, is some times attributed to premature birth. any way. I am indeed familiar with smaller species of live bearer. I prefer to keep my small fry in a 1 gallon to a five, upgrading as they develop. They do not hide when they are in a 1 gallon, they do not feel the need to do so, and so they develop and grow quicker. They are also less likely to develop social hick ups if your keeping a large colony. * such as bullying or pestering* But as this being said, these are a different species of fish from what your keeping inc. For them, Panicking is darting back and forth the length of a tank, hiding, and stressing * loss of color in my adult fish* and for the smaller ones i have you can see there little hearts race and them gulp water. Nets, nets should not honestly be used on any fish, as it stresses them up, I prefer Cup catching, my fish, actually will go into the cup, the net is used as an ushering tool. They prefer this method, though some prefer the net -_- silly fish. But as you said war of the worlds style, then isn't Fish keeping at all not humane? As they panic every time you have to catch them for what ever reason, from purchase, to upgrading tank, to cleaning. Unless they are trained either in hand or cup method. :) Thanks for the friendly banter. Happy fish keeping.

Please note that no fish or fish fry were harmed in the making of this video. He only did this to demonstrate the smallness of the tank, this is only a video. Don’t get so heartbroken over it because clearly no fish would survive in such a small space, it’s common sense plus the fish would be the size of the cube soon.

The people criticising the tank and how it's cruel to the fish are completely wrong... Did you actually see the size fins he put in the tank, they had plenty of swimming space because they were so tiny
@doggieyo10 жыл бұрын
That wasn't "plenty of room". That's like stuffing a human into a bathroom stall and saying "Well, you can take a few steps and turn a circle, so... plenty of room to live out the rest of your life!". Besides, those were BABY fish. They're going to grow up. And even is someone miraculously found adult fish that size, you'd still need a filter for them to survive. Realistically, if you kept fish in that small of an environment for over a few hours, they'd all die, either from poor water circulation or simply shock. That is animal cruelty, so sorry dear, but you're the one who is completely wrong.
@immydocherty9 жыл бұрын
actually sweetie :), do you know the person... do you KNOW that the fish is going to be in that tank for the 'rest of their life' NO so how about you do some research on the video background and maybe find out if the fish actually did spend the whole of their lives in that tank, they obviously like fish they took time and money out of their lives to not only buy a small tank but tiny rocks, nets and the fish themselves and I am sure they know what they're doing without you stepping in with your almighty words trying to be some kind of fish god, I'm sure the video was just for show and the fish were going to be moved into a bigger tank afterwards so please explain to me how him doing something for a short period of time and not for 'the rest of their lives' is 'animal cruelty' so honey next time you comment maybe you should take all circumstances into consideration and maybe think about asking the person who made the video what happened to the fish before replying to my comment with no knowledge at all. xox.
@doggieyo9 жыл бұрын
DochertysUnicorns Actually honey, I don't care if the people put those fish in there for their entire lives or a few seconds. I was replying to your comment on how they had "plenty of space", which anyone with a working brain could see that they didn't. You did not clarify whether or not you thought that this was a suitable living environment for a prolonged length of time, and so you can't get snippy when people call you out on your idiotic comment. If you had meant that it wasn't cruel for "short period of time", then say so. Otherwise, you just end up looking like an idiot. And besides, this video (whether the fish were kept in there for just a few seconds or not) does not outright say that this isn't suitable for actual fish to live in, and therefore only encourages fish neglect and abuse. I've seen multiple comments on here from people asking where to get that tank. Some people WILL see this video and try something like this. Don't think so, sweetie? Just look at all of the idiots who believe that bettas actually enjoy living in jars.
@immydocherty9 жыл бұрын
actually babe, for the amount of time they were spending in the tank it was plenty of space, if you made the fish and tank larger it would look perfectly adequate for a temporary time and I said 'swimming space' not living space for one which are completely different things, you are the one who brought in time constraints by saying they were going to spend the rest of their lives in the tank, and for one a bathroom stall is obviously not something you can compare the tank to, can I walk more than a couple steps in a bathroom stall... no but the length of the tank is about ten fish up side by size they would fit along the edge as for the width lets presume its another ten fish along and the height is about another ten of those fish, now lets presume that these are average size fish and each fish is about 5cm long. that's 125000cm3 lets take away the gravel but that still leaves us at about 100000cm3 which converted to gallons is about 33 gallons, now that's about an 124 litre tank he puts 3 fish in there which is 11 gallons per fish or 41 litres per fish if the now its recommended that fish have at least 3 gallons of water per inch of fish now 5cm fish are around 2 inches long that's 6 gallons of water recommended for each 5cm fish which would leave those fish, if they were 3 5cm fish in a 33 gallon tank and the tank would leave about 5 GALLONS of water to spare PER FISH! now I'm sorry but how is that not an alight amount of swimming space for a fish. now you obviously didn't take into account the tank compared to the fish and what it would look like as a full set up if they were your average fish. now you compared the tank to a bathroom stall, but really a bathroom stall in about a metre2 in lets say im 50cm2 wide thats about 8202ft2 your average house in the united kingdom has about 249ft2 f floor space thats one house! one fish would have about 2734ft2 of floor space thats around 10 times your average British house. PER FISH. so please explain to me how these fish are in anyway deprived of space!!! (of course all figures are calculated estimates and a lot of the numbers are rounded to the nearest decimal and I wasn't even being overkill on the bathroom stall figures) xx

They were White Clouds and i wondered how the hell live food had gotten into the tank. Then i realised... Here's how to do it, they are easy keep fish for noobs and i have some that are at least 4 and a half years since purchase. They live longer than 3 years i've found out. Put in many plants to mate and lay eggs, warmish room temperature and regular live food like tubifex worm.

Jaron Gittinger Dirty little secret of the aquarium industry...any tank under 10 gallons is too small to adequately control the water parameters for fish health/safety. This is what keeps the pet shops in business; people constantly replacing dead fish that were kept in conditions nearly impossible to maintain adequately
