UNIQUE custom basing ASOIAF House Greyjoy Reavers tray - slideshow

My first ASOIAF Greyjoy unit from the CMON tabletop wargame I painted and based with a special homemade tray basing. These nice sculpted Greyjoy Reavers deserve a special base walking on a slate shore towards battle.
Made with XPS foam, toilet paper, hobby- and super glue and some super high gloss varnish for the the water finish.

May be a stupid question, But I’m assuming you had to clip each model off the base?

Yup, but thats suprisingly easy. Most come off when you simply put your blade under a foot and wiggle a bit. Never clipped from the bottom side.

This looks amazing! What did you use to harden the toilet paper and what paints/finish did you use?

Many thanks. Just with simple hobby waterbased glue. Vallejo paints like black, blue green and white only mixing them on a simple pallet to get the nice gradient. Finish with something we call "boat varnish" bit smelly but super high gloss. Multiple layers for a bit more depth and ofcouse strenght. You could add some glue or filler to get more mass to the splashes. Or simply add more toiletpaper ofcourse.

How do you cut the bases out of the template for the top?

I simply made a thin carton template and put it on top after glueing everything down including the bases. Afterwards I filled the gaps between the bases and foam with some putty to make it a bit nicer to see when there out of the tray and giving it a bit more durability/strenght aswell.

@@yobtar it kinda is a step by step only no text explaination ofcourse. Have done three tray's now only need to finish the miniatures on the other two. Must admit it's a creative proces journey everytime you start a new one. Learing on the job is a huge part of the fun of beeing creative so would recommand doing stuff your own way at all times. Thinking of (cheap) ways on solving these little problems gives me loads of energy and joy atleast.
