I really like this ship, I think this ship should be high on the list of resource ships you should be trying to get. For coal this ship is amazing, for real money/doubloons... not so much.

Great review! I just picked up Napoli, making the choice over Salem, Moscva and Yoshino. Secondary build is quite fun, but can be frustrating in Randoms. It is very easy to push in too early or too far and get deleted. I have yet to have a great game in the Napoli, but the change in playstyle is very enjoyable.

I'm not denying that taking dispersion and range mods instead of the two secondary mods is better, but I'm not doing that build. I wanted a goofy fun secondary ship, and that is the aspect I want to enhance. If I want more accuracy and longer range on my main guns, I'll just play Petro or something.

I've seen a number of DD's and cruisers under estimate the secondaries of this ship and get punished for it. It looked like a pretty fun build if you can get games where you can push in and support caps and friendly ships.

That is the exact reason I run range mod on North Carolina. It makes the mid to longer range shots like 15-18km much much more accurate.

FYI PQ - 16:45 - the crosshair in replays has been switching to a 'torpedo mode' for 5-6 months now, where it has a crosshair for the torp mode as well as some sound effects too. Initially I was hating it, now I kinda like it.

Is this dispersion change with the range mod something that applies to all ships (and potentially to ships in Legends)? I really wish Legends had these kinds of graphs and ship ballistic statistics/characteristics made public so the Legends community could get quality information.

PQ would you revisit this ships capability now that subs are in game? In other words, because you've recommended as a pushing ship, I'm not seeing a lot of pushing by BB anymore. In fact, your own video where you ran a sub, you were recommending that BB NOT push in. So is the Napoli in your opinion, still worth spending coal on it?

Thanks for range mod data. I've had my suspicions that it wasnt linear and might interfere. Time to check if Kronshtadt gets any useful benefit cause those guns would love that accuracy

Basically all ships get some vertical dispersion benefit with range mod. It's because vertical dispersion in the game is not coded as it's own value, but as a [horizontal dispersion * multiplier], and that multiplier increases as you go towards max range. When you increase max range, the multiplier at any given range gets smaller because that range is a smaller portion of the max range. It does change from ship to ship, because the multiplier progression varies. For example I think (not sure though) that Soviet BB's have a progression where the multiplier is quite small up to something like 0.6*[max range] but then goes up a lot when closing to max range. I hope that made any sense, I wasn't able to say it any more clearly. Edit: What further complicates the charts in the github page PQ used is that they show vertical dispersion as a difference in how far apart shells can hit the water at the edges of the dispersion ellipse, but the game calculates them as a perpendicular cross-section of the shells' flight path. So the accuracy of ships with different shell arcs are not comparable there, higher shell arc means a bigger impact angle and thus it seems as if the accuracy would be better than for a ship with a lower shell arcs. For hitting ship's sides, a low arc would however have a better accuracy. Edit2: Fiddled around with the charts, turns out there are options to change the dipersion plane.

However, since vertical dispersion (unlike the dispersion numbers seen in the client) aren't linear with range and also differs greatly between ship types some ships if I understand correctly benefit a lot more. It seems some ships with russian cruiser dispersion gains the most. Graf Spee would probably too if it could fit the mod. I'm not sure about Alaska but I belive Kronshtadt to be a prime candidate for some big gains if it follows the same dispersion settings as petro/napoli does. @potatoquality, feel free to comment and correct me

@@MC-sl4et Some ships indeed benefit more than others, in particular those that have this weird "second step" in the vertical dispersion. The reason is that as @Wombat pointed out, the vertical dispersion is basically horizontal * multiplier. However, the multiplier depends on the fraction of max. range. So e.g. at 50% max range the multiplier is 0.4, while at max range it is 0.7. between that it scales linearly between the two values (totally made up numbers btw, no idea what the real numbers are). The thing to keep in mind with the graphs shown by PQ is that some are showing the Dispersion on the "water plane", where the shell impact angle increases with distance and thus reduces the observed vertical dispersion. in the plane of shell travel, however, it is increasing all the time.

@@MC-sl4et Yeah, seems you're right, not all ships get such noticeable benefits. I fiddled around with the ballistics calculator for a couple of hours since that's a new tool to me and I just love all that kind of stuff. It seems Kronshtadt gets a standard (that is, American) BB dispersion parameters, so she doesn't have that weird part where the vertical dispersion skyrockers. Indeed, only some specific ships get that kind of huge benefit from the range mod. I don't know for sure if there are any other ones than Soviet heavies and Napoli. Soviet BB's would be included as well, but they can't slot range mod.

Wouldn't range mod be the choice on Shikishima as well? Reload is already quite low and she suffers from IJN horizontal disperson. Given her extrem range, with range mod she should profit much.

Obviusly I'm not as good as PQ, but angled to a Montana I lost 10-15 each time it hit me. In fact the experience is very similar to Moskva, if you get caught broadside, you get citadelled, now overpens. But unlike the Napoli, Moskva is useful bow-in, it has consistent and accurate guns and has way more utilities. As a standard user, I don't recommend this ship, often you can't use your secondaries and the whole package is balanced around it.

Well in my opinion the problem is that you need broadside ships for immelmann. Only broadside works. Torps and skipbomber are shit when angled. If you have dump enemies this ship is brutal when not then you have a problem. Napoli is the better one in my opinion even if the 90mm secs wont get buffed to pen 27mm.

Actually Immelmann is amazing. You can generate your broadsides easily and you give a shit on srrong AA or grouped ships as you can turn before entering mid range AA with skip bombers. Really fun CV

I've been saving my coal for Moskva because I really want to have a 12km radar ship with HP and range (my only current tier 10 ship is Zao ...) and now Napoli pops up. Easy fix to get border surfing out of the game: If you sail in borderline for 30 - 40 seconds, (time it takes you to turn away from border) you will abandon the battle and be penalized as if you'd dealt your ships remaining HP amount of friendly fire. Pretty pink color, reduced xp and lose credits.

"Surprisingly good AA" usually means high damage in the inner rings and shorter range like you mentioned. It's just bad game design. You feel bad becuase you still get hit by the planes, the cv feels bad because losing 10 planes is just running down the clock on their supplies. They need to bring back the bomber accuracy debuff and have it caused by some good play on the target ships part.

Colombo has a "standard" dispersion calculation, so it looks more like the Des Moines on the graphs near the end. It's accuracy still gets better from range mod, but it's a very small improvement.

I love Italian AA. Not as much as high tier RN AA, but I like to think of Italian AA as Texas AA. Its short ranged and the CV will get its first (dive bomber) strike off, but then the high dps kills the planes afterwards. Oddly satisfying.

@@zastronomer7592 Coal grinding is the same for everyone. Play a few matches ---> earn xp ---> select "more resources" containers. Without premium time it takes longer, but you can still get about 1.5k coal every day easily.
