1. I want the Black Death mechanic for the Natives under the name of Smallpox. 2. I want the Plagues to work the same as in reality ie. be absolutely devestating for high dev centers (W. Europe) and pretty mild for low dev centers (Poland), (Plagues usually levelled the playing field).

Adding on to this. Afterwards players should be able to encurage imigration to attract more pops at a cost to A. Symbolize the increased value of the labourer and B. Give players balanced a mechanic to mitigate some of the damage of the plauge or set up for a good future economy. Theres no reason the renaissance needs to start in italy at all if you can get your hands on all those valuable labourers after the plauge has passed

@@velvet6923 Balancing any reoccurring situation or mechanic seems like it would be hard in general. Imagine how many times colonial settlements had to be done to stick in North America. Even expeditions like Cortez were a crapshoot. Had drought hit or a slightly less overbearing Aztec empire existed euro colonization might have slowed down to the point that it would be deemed wasteful. Imagine, no Spanish Empire because things were slightly worse or better

Plague should be full connected to urbanization of the area, dont make any sense high death rates in low population rural areas. With death also being changed with some policies... For example policies to kill cats and so on... But this policies cant be full controled by the player or is going to be broken, but could be intacted by church and other entities that the player cant control, or by events that the player cant full control, but are not the same in every game, making possible different outcomes

i would like to see the societal changes caused by the black death to be simulated. Such as the decline of serfdom in western and central Europe as lords had to compete for peasants and manpower. In Russia the opposite happened with lords further tightening restrictions and freedom of movement for peasants as they attempted to hoard their peasants instead of compete for them. But being able to tweak the effects of the black death in the settings is a great idea.
@ELYELYELroy

also the black death in addition to population decline should result in huge tech debuffs, advisors dyeing, and if a standing army is present a constant state of attrition regardless of its in friendly territory or not.

Ideas of situations (aside from the ones in the video) : -The burgundian inheritance, as it trully starts the century long conflict between France and the Habsburgs -The rise of Persia -The Kalmar Union -The fate of the teutonic order. Could be something hapenning when all romuvan locations are converted to catholicism, questionning the very existence of the order -The Cambrai League In fact, every major events in EU4 should be implemented as Situations (that s a lot, but i think it matches the game's ambitions)

MUST HAVE SITUATIONS: - Spanish inquisition - Smallpox in the Americas - Protestant League wars - The quest for the new world (triggered by the fall of constantinople) - Protestant reformation - The Timurids - Rise of the Ottomans making some situations trigger others would be super cool too, imagine how immersive would be seeing the rise of the Ottomans triggering the quest of the new world after the fall of Constantinople that itself begins the Age of Discovery and later the smallpox in the americas

@@TThompson2000Itd be more cool if they make alternate versions of all situations. If the Ottomans are killed early then whoever kills them gets their mantle. A resugerent Byzantium or another local power. Oh, Byzantium doesnt fall? Well, they still want their land back, picking a fight with the Italian trade states again and still forcing a search for alternate routes. Even if the trade routes didnt close as soon as the ships were capable of making the trip it was bound to happen sooner than later. If spain takes a more tolerant path a situation about integrating minorities and maybe having more unrest in exchange for having more population.

Three situations, which are a must: 1. Dutch Wars (80 years war). A lot of possible flavour. 2. Mughal Emergence and conquests of India. (also Islamic expansion). 3. Decline of the Commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania - a looooot of flavour to unlock, a lot of options (from historical partitions, to continuing as a puppet, or partitioned by different parties, etc. etc.). I want the plagues to work mostly like in MEIOU&taxes - Plagues can be really devastating and each outbreak gets weaker with each new province affected up to nearly nonexistent effect. And the more the province affected by the plague - the more immunity it has, so less chance of outbreak and less damage during next outbreaks. And of course - player can spend a huge amounts of money to delay (so the plague that gets to you is weaker) or lower the damage (pop loss).

I'd genuinely love to see the Deluge, Northern wars, Time of Troubles and maybe Ottoman threat with christian alliances invoked (like battle of Lepanto or siege of Viena) as a situations to give Central and Eastern European parts a bit of flavor. In EU4 these respected regions felt too streamlined gameplay-wise and imo without this constant dynamic of wars and crises that shaped the history of XIV-XVII centuries it'd be kinda hollow.

I mean, regarding black death and other historical events that can be coded as "situations": that's absolutely brilliant! and I hope it can be used to give us a felling of historical verisimilitude throughout our games. The fact that a specific situation, such as the black death, could be set with custom setups and even be turned off is the perfect compromise: you like it? You don't? You'd like it to be more random rather than historical? No problem: you can choose each one of these options! That should be perfect to give people different experiences playing the same game according to their personal taste! Personally I love to see my games balanced and historical, so I'd love to see the following situations played out: - rise of Timur (with maybe the subsequent Ottoman-Timurid rivalry); - tatar yoke; - control of the spice trade in the Indian Ocean between early colonizers (Portugal) and local - not only - Indian rulers (which may be supported by foreign powers such as the Ottomans, as it historically happened); this can be even expanded and be made a permanent situation regarding the spice trade as a whole, which would determine who's the major power in control of the spice trade routes and spices being shipped to the west, be it a local power (e.g. Malacca or the indian trade cities) or a foreign power (e.g. the Ottomans, the Mamluks, Portugal, the Netherlands, or the UK)

Would the War of the Roses be a situation, like the disaster in EU4. Also the English Civil Wars (17th century) would be an interesting situation with Catholics, Protestants, monarchists, republicans (Cromwell) Ireland, Scotland, and the Dutch are involved. Maybe also the Plantations in Ireland or that could be a general mechanic. The unification of Russia /Muscovy and their expansion into Siberia should be a situation, massive ethnic and cultural changes happened in those regions because of that. Also it might be hard and not that useful as it would be close to the end of the game, but situations for colonies to gain independence. I know it didn’t happen until the late 18th early 19th century, but I think it’s just a cool idea. Also if they’re going this far, the French Revolution is an obvious thing for a situation. This would be interesting if this is how the end of the game is.

apart from situations there needs to be a challenge for big empires to prevent the game from being a snowball which is the main reason why most players stop playing after the age of reformation in EU4, countries like france are so much bigger than everybody around them already at the start of the game that there's hardly any challenge apart from the 100 years war. one thing they could do for example is if your the ottomans and you control the balkans the orthodox serbs and various other groups should present problems for you for instance other countries can demand more autonomy for them or support their independence unless given certain rights which will weaken your nation. similar for austria with the hungarians, and they can implement varoius other mechanics based on what happened historically that are specific for big countries such as corruption or decentralization, so that you feel that your struggling to keep your empire even when not expanding.

The Black Death completely changed the balance of power in places such as Italy. Siena was the leading Tuscan city-state, and at its peak in th early 1200s. They had just completed a massive Cathedral, and had started expanding it into the world's largest church! Then the Death came, and all the artists and artisans died. Today you can still see a few walls of that massive church, but most of it is a parking lot! Florence was also hit hard, but was able to come back and eventually win over Siena. Like some of the other comments said, it should be a mechanic that levelises development (punishing high dev areas more). Countries that have too many ongoing investments can go broke due to the financial/ manpower hit. Countries that recover slow will be left behind by the Renaissance.

This might not be exactly related to what you ask Ludi but recently I have been playing as Angevin Empire and made me realize the kind of things that makes this run special, aka something I would love to see in the next game. I think it's all about the flavour and what makes each country unique and those unique mission trees. However the fact I can form Ireland, Italy, make Castille my junior partner is great. This idea that your vassal can form a country - this is great, I wish this was an option for other countries. You as player can decide, for example if I get all the provinces for my vassal to create a country - i can do that or i can do that but they became my junior partner. That would be great. Also! When you have subjects to direct them to follow their mission trees - what do I mean by that. When I got France I wanted them to finish their mission regarding Provance and get Provance as their junior partner but there is no option for me to influence that, to say to France (my subject) hey, focus on this bit. Anyways, greetings LUUUDA

So maybe Paradox intends for that to be an initial challenge/flavor for a player starting as Japan. Either to keep the emperor in rule, become the new shogunate, or break away as one of the clans.

Research suggests that when the initial Spanish and Portuguese explorers landed in South America it was actually way more developed than it is often portrayed in popular media. This can be corroborated by the accounts of the aforementioned explorers who spoke of large cities and vast wealth. This was in the early 1500s by the time the explorers went back in the 1600s many previously known civilizations had seemingly disappeared. A popular theory is that these Iberian explorers had unknowingly (or purposefully) introduced diseases of which the indigenous south Americans had zero resistance too which resulted in the deaths of millions. This theory is quite popular because of how well documented the horrific effects small pox had on the indigenous North Americans. All that to say I think The New World should be highly populated at game start. There shouldn't be vast swaths of unclaimed grey territory and instead those areas should become empty by simulating the effect of "old world" diseases on North and South America.

For 18:56, I agree. Definitely should include the main events in the HRE such as the Dutch Revolt, the Swiss Confederacy, the Hussite Crusades (as it has been confirmed that the Hussite religion is in the game), the Thirty Years' War (obviously), the 1356 Golden Bull and the Bohemian acquisition of Brandenburg, and maybe even the Burgundian War of Succession. Some other ideas I have are: In Europe there should be the Wars of the Roses (possibly triggering after certain events in the Hundred Years' War), the Kalmar Union, Byzantine refugees (maybe can do refugees for other countries - where a major city falls to another country) In Asia there should be events such as the spread of Islam to Indonesia (maybe even implementing a system whereby trade with Christian or Islamic nations can lead them to sending missionaries to your country), having Tamerlane, maybe even the Imjin War after the Sengoku Jidai, and the Treasure Fleet so the China after Yuan can acquire tributaries. In the New World there should be the rise of the Aztecs and the Inca along with having a disease mechanic - which will force European powers to import slaves.

One thing I would have love for Small Death is to have an outcome on Religion / Science on whether each country adapted to it. Have events tied to it like "God is punishing us" with option like idk "Pray harder for salvation" or "There is no god in this disease, lets isolate this infested town". Ultimately I just don't want the Black Death to just be a passive mechanic where you just happen to see your pop die, you should be able to impact your country with this traumatising event for atleast a century beyond or maybe improve/decrease the reformation rate reformation rate in your country ( if there is something such as ) depending on how zealous your people were ( would be dependent of the previous mentionned events ).

I want to see Europe start with an insane population like it happend in that time with the agricultural developments, when black death arrives it wipes out half of Europe's population. So you start of in the early game with a bigger population and if your are skilled and quick, maybe you can achive great conquests a develepment growth until the BD arrives than entire Europe freezes in time for a few years while every country and their nobles are trying to sway serfs to move to their lands through certain commoner priviliges. Etc.

I don't know if it should be a situation, but there really should be some kind of mechanics for monarchies, for when your ruler dies with heirs that might break up the country, or start rebellions. Of course you should as a player be able to alleviate it or in some cases make it so it doesn't happen. I would just like more mechanics for internal struggles, as we need some "historical accuracy" to stop blobbing, but of course it shouldn't be impossible, just difficult to manage if you conquer to much too fast.

It would be lovely to see terrain, climate, urbanisation, etc. all significantly affecting the impact of the Black Death. Remote villages in the Norwegian mountains were probably a lot less devastated by the plague than the Italian trading urban centers. It would be a nice contrast: when you play in highly urbanized and developed areas your entire early game is dedicated towards fighting the plague and its consequences, whereas in less developed places you can chill and slowly gain power

I think that succession wars could be a fun situation Mechanic with opposing leagues similar to like the 30 years war. So that you don't just inherit another major nation but you have to fight for that. Especially when you inherit really big nations. Best example would be the spanish succesion war where a big part of Europe was involved. I feel like in EU4 succesion wars are pretty underwhelming. You sometimes Have to fight one major nation, but it is never a real challange.

It would be interesting to see the societal and political effects of the Black Death, in part coming from its increased toll in cities compared to countryside. This led for example to a decline in the use of French in England, as it was mostly a language of power and concentrated in the cities, and this led to the transition from Middle English to Early Modern English. As mentioned by others, the consequences in terms of the power balance between labour (mostly peasants, but not only) and its parasites (nobles, burghers, clerics) were drastic: the massive die-off meant a much a higher bargaining power for labour, and thus much higher wages. It also enabled them to use the increased availability of common land to sustain themselves while waiting for good working opportunities. As such, the first Poor Laws / Statute of Laborers were introduced in England in 1349, which forced them to accept any job - except people over 60, landowners and business owners. (Ref: Health Communism, B. Adler-Bolton and A. Vierkant, 2022) If I am not mistaken, it was also around this time that the first wave of the Enclosures began.

I really enjoy the way this situations thing could play out! I think my biggest comment is that, just like with much of the rest of the system, I hope that these events will not just push forwards one outcome, but instead promote some amount of variety on replay. A good example is the Red Turban Rebellion! I think it's great to have something that can shape the game state so fundamentally happen in these campaigns, so you're not always getting the same outcomes. It's similar to how I hope they work the Apanages for France so that a Burgundy like situation could arise, even if it's not Burgundy specifically. I hope Paradox includes a few situations that allow and lean for some level of ahistorical play, and find that balance between simulating history and allowing alternative, sometimes even *likely*, history to happen that never would in something like EU4

As situation, we could aslo have wars of successions. I can't talk for all of them, but as a Breton I know that the war between le house of Montfort and the house of Blois was also a proxy war between France and England to make sure they have an ally in the Duchy of Brittany. It wasn't about making if a dependancy, but a strong ally to help the other conflict (the 100 years war). I'm pretty sure it could apply to other succession crisis in Europe, and it would be a nice mecanic for non-historical playthrough.
