Peep game! King Sun - There is a blueprint for the Starving Artists Funding! Other organizations have developed it for everyone but Hip-Hop! I first pitched this in 2016: I stumbled across Hero Initiative last weekend celebrating my daughter's birthday at the Gem-City Comic Com. What a brilliant concept! Now, I was thinking the whole time, this concept could be useful for another industry I've been a part of and could use some help. I've been a hip-hop DJ since I was a teenager in the 1980s and I have watched as my favorite music has grown from inception to now a few generations in! Many of my peers in the industry are now 50+. With the 'shady music industry,' many artists have been used and abused establishing themselves as artists, and after their creative run are left in debt. Many are hit with a debilitating illness that devastates them and their families. I have watched countless peers my age pass from illnesses that could have been avoided. Everyone from known names to local favorites should be able to secure help. What hit home first was the death of Phife Dawg of a Tribe Called Quest who battled Diabetes. He was only 45. Other recent premature deaths included Guru from Gangstarr, Heavy D, J Dilla, Prodigy, Big Pun. This run in 2020-21 has been devastating! This has to stop! Many of these could have been possibly helped by a well-supported fund. I did find Sweet Relief.org sweetrelief.org/ which caters to the rock industry. It's wonderful there is an organization set up for this but the desire here is to be a niche for hip-hop artists. Recent articles support this such as www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/02/26/no-respect-for-hip-hop-s-ogs-why-many-legendary-mcs-still-need-to-hustle.html www.thestar.com/life/health_wellness/2013/05/07/aging_hip_hop_stars_focused_on_health_after_rappers_deaths.html I am open to discussion.

Interesting. Nice to see that Sun is still alive and kicking it. The only way he got on my radar was through that old hip hop show called Pump It Up with Sista Dee Barnes because at the time, I had no MTV or Cable TV for that matter. They played some of his videos including Be Black and he also go an interview there as well back in the days. Also, you mentioned Hey Love. That was one of the songs on one of those old compilation albums put out by Priority Records. It has to be one of the first tracks on that album. I think that album was called Rap's Greatest Hits. Nothing beats the old school.

Sun is official! I had a list back in the '80s of which MCs Would still be active and influence the "next school" (Remember that? Back in the 80s we had old, new and next schools, lol) He was on my list. Dude had: RHYMES, FLOW, STAGE PRESENCE and LYRICS that made u THINK! Yes, he was "pro-Black" just like me. But he was also GANGSTA! Cats like him, Schooly D, Tragedy (back when he was called Intelligent Hoodlum), and a few others, they created the mold for Pac to do the same! Its a CRIME this brotha is going thru what he is going thru! Rappers need a union, God bless the god!
