AWB is like de Gea - he has one undeniable super power but isn’t well-rounded enough. Onana isn’t the shot stopper de Gea was. But his all round game is better. Likewise Mazraoui is a more well rounded full back than AWB even if he doesn’t match AWB’s one on one defending.

Totally agree. In Mazraoui we're getting a guy that can cover both sides, and that gives you a big flexibility thinking that it's not clear what's going on with Malacia. Also, AWB is in last year of contract. Everyone is assuming that he would renew his contract but we don't know that. I think this transfer makes a lot of sense.

That might seem like an insignificant amount but every club is scraping in the new PSR era and it looks even more ridiculous when we just slashed 200 low paid staff jobs only to leave 15m on the table. Not to mention selling is full profit in the current year while we get to stagger payments while buying. It's about time we have the guts to make difficult but correct financial decisions.

Don't think he's an upgrade on AWB to be honest. The trade off with him going forward isn't worth it with Dalot there. Aaron is a specialist capable of locking down most players 1v1. Never complained, never acted out when he was out of the team. For the money we're selling him for it's not worth it imo

Both Dalot and Mazraoui can cover left back and are similar in terms of what they offer on the ball (i.e. a greater level of proficiency than AWB). I guess ten Hag has laid the gauntlet down and no longer wants to compromise on the style and capability of the team & squad. AWB, for all his defensive capabilities (and there are certain areas that he's still weak in), does compromise us in possession despite the improvement he has made.

Secondly, AWB has a year left on his deal and evidently every indication per our willingness to let him walk = sell now or let him go for nothing next year. Night and day vs Dalot in all departments - ball progression, progressive passing, crossing, off ball movement (best shown when he actually played under ETH at Ajax) and ability to stand his man one on one and not rely on being bailed out by his midfielder… short memory or what, or just don’t watch football outside united. Dealt with Garnacho comfortably in the UCL, and likewise with Saka at LB later in the tournament. I can only assume years of mediocrity at full back and one or two decent outside the box goals from Diogo has deluded us into thinking that isnt a position that needs sorting. Worst case - 15-20m all upside, and worst case is his Dalots back up cos of injuries - and a net zero cost given AWB’s on the way out…

So heres the deal on Wan bissaka from a club side he doesn't really fit the style of football we want to play going forward he is not a modern day rightback and never will be. We as a club do not have a full complete squad that we are putting the finishing touches on that we can afford to have a defensive specialist rightback that we only use to play against a top winger or striker which is what people are saying is why we need to keep him. My simple response to that is for every good game he has like he did against city he has 2 or more where he isn’t that great or where he goes to ground and gives up a penalty or loses concentration at the backpost or isn’t in the proper position defensively and it keeps a player onside somewhere else in the line. On the player side he doesn’t want to stay and sign a deal so hes sold now for something instead of going for free next summer.

Wan-Bissaka is a good defender, not a great defender. He is a great slide tackler, probably the best in the world, but he is very average with the ball at his feet and is very sloppy with his passing. He's also very injury prone. He'd never get a game at Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG or City because he simply isnt good enough, so why should Utd keep him?
