I like them too. Definitely an important part of our history.

1968 was the first year since 1964 that the US minted proof sets and it was the first year they were minted in SF. Also the mint raised the price of proof sets to $5 which didn't make collectors too happy but there was still high demand

Yes, the special mint sets released during that break should be in my Mint Set video. Be sure to check it out. Thanks for commenting.

Very nice collection. I didn't realize they had not included the Ikes in 71 & 72. Also, the 09 set is especially unique as it has the most coins ever issued in a Mint set (and probably will ever issue) I think it'll be a sleeper because of that. You had 6 territorial quarters, 4 cents, nickel, dime, half and 5 dollar coins.

Yes indeed. Its a very nice large set which I hope will go up in value one day. Thanks for watching.

Are any of these mint sets worth any money I have a few of them and I was just wondering if they are worth anything please comment back or are they worth just face value please let me know this is all new to me my father had passed and I'm going through all of his personal belongings and he was a little bit into collecting he wasn't a big coin collector but I have a Few of them thank you
@Coin_Scavenger4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the are all worth more than just face value. Some of the early smaller sets are worth around $5 to $10 each. The later larger sets normal sell for around $20 each. I would need specific dates if you have questions about the ones you have.

I have most of these sets my question Is since im a new coin collector and im 55 years old will these sets ever have any value lets say in about 15-20 yrs.... great video and info for us nubees
@Coin_Scavenger5 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. Unfortunately, I don't see most of these sets going up much in value. The mint normally produces an unlimited mintage on the proof coins within these sets. In fact, most actually lose value compared to the price they were released at. The mint is trying their best to pull in new collectors. If more people become interested in collecting these, we may see the values bounce back. Thanks for commenting.

@@Coin_Scavenger what do you think about breaking up the sets for that 1 or 2 coins to make a profit is that something you would recommend
@stackingnpacking9469 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is really interesting that they did that in 1965. Thanks for the information i enjoyed it and thanks for sharing :)
@Coin_Scavenger9 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome, thanks for watching. 65 must have been a horrible year for collectors, not only did they not make proof or mint sets but they also stopped releasing 90 percent silver coins into general circulation.

great sets would like to have so i could cut them out and send them in to get graded
@Coin_Scavenger4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, that would cost much more than most of the sets are worth. Almost none of the modern mint sets are rare enough to make they worth grading.
@charlesadkins70674 жыл бұрын
@@Coin_Scavenger some of the coins you have if they grade high 67 to 70 could be worth thousands of dollars this is a gamble but it does happen
@Coin_Scavenger4 жыл бұрын
@@charlesadkins7067 I know but the chance of them grading even 67 or 68 is slim to none. Just not worth the gamble for me to risk it. Besides, I sort of enjoy these in the original mint packaging.

do you have any full step 1961-D nickels???? in MS-65FS its worth $27,000 and 1963-D worth $9,000 in MS-65FS and there are many other full step nickels that have ridiculous prices. I have made very good money getting coins out of my mint sets graded but lots of mine were in sealed boxes of 5 from the mint, part of a huge collection I purchased many years ago with over 100 of these sealed boxes.

It doesn't mean anything till they are graded
@Coin_Scavenger5 жыл бұрын
Lol...I have a feeling that a lot of collectors would disagree with you. Personally, I think only a fool would grade modern mint sets. The value on the back end isn't enough to even cover the grading fees on most of the sets.
