@@redherring6154 The Bushmaster was built and partially developed here. The initial variant as designed in the UK was quite different to the final iteration procured for the troops. It is far more Aussie than the F/A-18F's that were built in the USA, so I'd say it's a fair enough comment from JCZ.

Hi, mate, ... you probably do not know what "Slava Ukraine" means. Here is a short explanation in the context of the recent history and the connection to the current conflict. "Slava Ukraine" gained prominence/popularity within a group of "Ukrainian" nationalists after WW I and even more so before/during/after WW II. It is a "battle cry" used by UPA (Bandera group) supported/financed by Germans before and during the war. It is similar (factually more violent) to the one used by some Muslim militias. It has been vocalized hundreds of thousands of times by UPA groups against Polish women, children, and the elderly in a brutal massacre in the Wołyń region, formerly Polish territory (check the internet). Thousands of villages ... were brutally murdered, with only a few people managed to escape. Hay forks, axes, knives, and bare hands were the main "tools" .... used not in the name of God but in the name of "Ukraine", which as a country never existed. The U_Kraine in Slavic languages means ... more or less 'territory bordering a Kraj (country). In Poland, the region was also adjectively described as "Dzikie Pola" - 'Wild Fields" (like Wild West). UPA used such brutal "wholesale" extermination tactics against Russian settlements and also in the process of Ukrainian servitude to the German army/administration. To these days, the Ukrainian government have not allowed the process of exhumation of the massacre sites and perpetrators of the crimes are officially revered … by monuments, street names, national holidays… I will end this short elaboration with the question. How can one be proud of Zelenski (and his? team) for sending hundreds of thousands of its citizens to death? The question can also be rephrased with Putin's name.
@teal4168
@teal4168 Ай бұрын
@@MichaelT_123 "sending hundreds of thousands of its citizens to death" what a joke. Zelensky is not at fault for defending his country. I used to be a qualified driver on these. They're amazing vehicles. The CTIS that controls tyre pressure is amazing. I once had three tyres blow out and managed to drive it out just fine to refit a new set of tyres and keep going. V-shaped hull that contains the drinking water also assists in dispersing the shock from IEDs/mines. From memory, no Australian soldier has died from an IED/mine.
@joey66436

I never understood the term IED, the "improvised" part, saying it's not purpose built? Can't it just be an explosive device? I understand it might be made from say, an unexploded mortar or some other munition, but it's an explosive device regardless. I see the part improvised suggests it's from an unsophisticated enemy, but it's just an explosive device really.

because these are 'native' Australian vehicles. Built in Australia for Australian troops. Steering wheels in Australia and some other parts of the world are 'right hand drive'. Other countries like Europe, USA, Canada etc are 'left hand drive". The Ukrainian military seem to appreciate them as they are, but please feel free to contribute to changing the steering wheels over. the ac is because it was designed to operate in australian conditions were 45c temps are the norm in the bush in summer (perth today was 35 summer is a comin) also not mentioned but the underhull is vshaped so ieds are blown away from the cabin. also the tires have internal pressure contol so you can raise them or lower them as needed. they were pretty well battle tested in the Ghan and a LT in the aus army i worked with actually survived an ied blowing one over. though he had to climb out the ceiling hatch and run round to pull troops out the back. glad to see that the ukraines seem to rate them as highly as the aus military. And the bushmaster name isn't a reference to the snake. its called that because it was designed to operate in the australian outback, known by the ausses simply as the bush, so aus bush master. i haven't driven or ridden in one, but one parked overnight in the unit were i worked as a civvie so i had a chance to look around the inside and its pretty roomy. though 18 soldiers in there would be like sardines lol.

Back in 1997-98, my platoon were the Guinee pigs for testing the Bushmaster and the Taipan, the name they gave it back then.( based on the Unimog chassis). My section was the unlucky ones to ride in the back of the taipan. You could not fit 8 troops easily in it, we were jammed like sardines in that thing. One day the driver took the wrong track out bush and went into a half ditch, the taipan started to lean hard on the left side. The driver stopped but the taipan kept leaning into it because it had the self inflating tyre system and it detected an overpressure on the side that was leaning down, so it let out air on that tyre to stop it from bursting, but only making the vehicle lean into it more. It gradually stopped, but we were a bee's dick from tipping over. We all managed to escape through the rear door very slowly as to not make any sudden movements lest it would tip over. Hated that Taipan. I think that was one of the reasons that it didn't win also when it went around a corner the whole body would lean away from the corner. I loved that Bushmaster, we all fought over who would ride in it. Glad its being used what it was designed for.

@JPT-fz8wc

Nah we have Droneshields C-UAS for drone defence, putting larger guns on it just makes it more top heavy and you lose maneuverability, that's why we would operate a mix of Bushmasters and ASLAV with it's 25mm autocannon.. A modernised turret for our ASLAV with the slinger would be good paired up with bushmasters, although we have Boxers now we can operate with Bushmasters..
@IC3XR
@IC3XR Ай бұрын
@@JPT-fz8wc The Slinger only weighs about twice that of the CROWS system currently installed, but fair enough. Droneshield does do the job well.
