​@@UrixMusic try going in the recycle bin tool on your computer then try finding your scene there. Next right Click > Restore and you should have your scene back

I had worked on my game for over 2 hours without saving (and I don't know why) and the whole thing was deleted. I had massive work on it and it was all deleted when I renamed the scene. LOL this is the most stupid design decision I ever saw. There IS a backup being saved and the user is NOT informed about it AND then the backup is deleted at the earliest opportunity without asking if the user would like to restore or keep the backup??? Do the Unity devs actually hate their clients? Anyway, thank you very much *upvote*!

If you're using plus or pro and have access to collaborate, I'd recommend using that over repeatedly saving. Sometimes if you save to often (yes it can happen) you make commit stuff that you had not intended and although you have retained a recent state, it's more work to rollback to a previous working state. Using version control systems like collaborate, you can have commented save points and roll back and forth as needed.

I have regular power outages. I don't mind losing progress I have before I saved, but the issue I have is that when I open Unity after power outage. It starts to reimport all assets. I have a big project, so it might take many hours. So I'm wondering, if I delete temp folder before lunching unity, will this help me avoid reimport for the whole project?

I almost learned the hard way how to lose months of work. Even if you backup regularly make sure to do it on different drives or in the cloud! My computer was freezing for about 1 minute every half an hour or so. I didn`t think much of it untill my computer rebooted and after that my drive D: with Unity and recent backups completely disappeared in Windows and even in the BIOS. I was about to die from inside, the only thing I could think of was to unplug the harddisk and giving it a good blow to clean up dust. After that magic happened, Windows recognized the drive D: again and after 5 hours of checking and repairing all my files were still there. Also I learned the hard way that changing one tiny thing can mess up something else in Unity. Even if you think some things should really have no connection with each other.

You went 3 months without saving the scene? How? Did you just never close the program? Anyway, look at the silver linings. You can now get even more familiar with the game and brush up anything you didn't like. From my experience every time I redo my stuff it comes out a bit better and I get new inspirations. Not an ideal situation, but get any good out of it you can.

To anyone who reopened Unity after it crashing do this: try going in the recycle bin tool on your computer then try finding your scene there. Next right Click > Restore and you should have your scene back

It would be probably a good solution to write a script which copies the content of the folder and then start Unity. And all you have to do is always start your unity through that script. That way you do not have to remember anything.

On a normal close, that folder would be empty, so that might work. Only problem is the scene name won't be there, so you have to overwrite the same file or know which scene it's supposed to be. A shortcut for when it crashes would be great though (or just copying the file into a 'recovered' folder or something might work)

But my project was kind of complicated and every files were related to one another so one error and "poof" whole project becomes useless ...i had no other option not even this video helped me and i had to rebuild the whole project again. Took days but i somehow created it. Anyways here is a free advice for u "always create a backup so if every thing goes totally wrong u can still save your project"😊.
