Much like fighting, all technique has its time and place. If you get to this position you will have the technique in your arsenal.

In my experience one has to learn one or two specific techniques that work and you must practice, practice, practice and practice. And, after you feel comfortable with your process, practice it hard to the point of anger and to the point that your winded. Much like drawing your weapons entails enough practice that your movements become almost automatic, the same applies for takedowns and compliance techniques. The instructor asked what the common denominator was in these techniques, and I think it was that they were laughing and having a good time and not realizing this is part of a training process that could determine whether or not they would survive a confrontation with someone who has no problem being serious. One of my acadamy classmates went through a portion of her training like this until one of the instructor lit her ass up. After that, she and I would aggressively practice to that anger point and she became quite good at two takedowns. It helps to have an honest training environment that focuses on realistic application after a technique is learned. My experience has been that if your takedown fails then you're immediately faced with a situation in which you have to muscle a suspect into submission.

A little better than most such teachings I've see, but they still are not taking them ALL the way down. A lot of instructors skip that last part because it takes more time in class, but if your student isn't shown the WHOLE technique, they won't know how to finish the move in real life.

I applaud them for at least trying to teach their guards to use control holds and take-downs as opposed to going right for non-lethal or lethal force.

Great video, I am a strong advocate of pure technique. I see proper vertical centering of your body and use of your torso versus limb strength. Moving off of center axis at any point will reduce effectiveness greatly. Lowering the hips as the subject is subdued is vital. Again great video, thanks for sharing!

Hi something to keep in mind is no body leaves there arm out when they punch they retract it back to strike with the next arm or same arm, so this may not fully equip people to deal with the situation, but at least there learning something.
@DaidohYuzan
@DaidohYuzan 7 жыл бұрын
Yep, don't understand how come he doesn't tell them to grap a hold of the wrist. If you just snap the arm between two arms, there's two directions to pull it away. I guess that is so that the next starts with the same move and he doesn't have to say "this time don't grap the wrist..."... And the next one then again requires you to be really fast, so that the arm is not pulled away, cause it is already on it's way back when you start.

The teacher needs to break these techniques down into baby steps. Showing the whole technique is too much for a beginner. First practice the step and snap. Second practice the take down. Third practice the ground move. Finally practice the whole thing. You then need to be able to do it from both sides. The girls giggle because they lack confidence in what they are doing. A good teacher could do so much better for these people.

It's a natural response with new female students when they feel vulnerable yet newly emopowered at the same time. After a few weeks they settle in. I teach women's safety workshops and see this every time. Also seen it in every dojo I've attended or run over 35 years. It's normal.

Yes, it works. This is clearly a beginner lesson. More complex problems follow. This material comes from Jujutsu forms, like many police restraint techniques do. They are often modified slightly so that a few techniques can work across a wider range of problem scenarios.

Once they finally have them on the ground they are leaning over and not putting knee on soul. I would like to see them close the gap and see better control, Leaning over a subject is not a good position to be in with out that knee control.

This is great. If you are fighting another martial artist maybe. However, what street thug fights like this though? Most are on drugs, drunk and pain compliance is limited to what the suspect feels. Same with taser. If he doesnt feel pain you're going to have to escalate to a higher level of force. Right?

How bout teaching them some verbal command as they do these techniques. So when they do it in real life they automatically give these verbal commands and don`t get in trouble, cause when some gets hurt and say " I did not understand what the officer wanted me to do it, I was never given any verbal commands"

I just dont see how your going to trap an assailants arm that fast if he swinging at your head as in a real fight. Trapping a cross wouldn't be easy if the man snaps back like a jab.

It's a great take-down but no one is going to catch a punch like that irl. Real violence is far too quick for a reaction requiring that much motor function.

False. I work as a correctional officer. My training consisted of a lot of similar stuff where I thought the same things. "That's so stupid" etc. But I took it serious and it worked a few times when inmates behave violently. You have to remember not very many people are not trained in how to throw a punch. They're just wildly throwing and hoping the punches land.
@lesdillinger4907
@lesdillinger4907 5 жыл бұрын
Man I think maybe this guy can pull off these moves but theres no way they are learning that in 10 minutes, and sitting there waiting to "catch " and "snap" the punch at the elbow is a good way to get knocked out, but like I said I'm sure this guy can use those moves successfully but to teach these is way different than using them. Plus you have to have some serious guards who understand they are training to protect theirselves and other civilians lives. Pissed me off when those two were laughing and ignoring him while he trying to help them not get themselves and others hurt or killed.

Hi John, the only thing I see here is that it works for you because you are a fairly big guy. But when you have one of the girls or a smaller guy against someone like you this does not seem like it will work. Size and strength means a lot and a small person can know all kinds of cool stuff but with a large strong guy he can muscle the smaller person around even though he does not know anything.I am older now and smaller and got my Black Belt in "Japan Karate Do" years ago LOL. There is no way I could take you down and handcuff you without grabbing your balls, smacking your throat and as one person pointed out here take the eyes out with a stooges move all in a 1-2-3 sequence. I realize that for a guard they are not supposed to fight or strike. I do like you teachings though but just saying the girls have to know that if they are going to try this, it probably won't work for them on a larger guy or woman. For their safety they should be told to know when not to try stuff like this even if they practice a lot and get good at it. They need to do the blocking part so not to be hit but then get away from the person.Thanks for the videos and your time making them. One never knows that if the other person is off balance then things might come to a smaller person and work in a real scuffle.

Garry Berry I agree. Those techniques are cool and so on but do they work? If the person is bigger I dont think so. I have trained karate, brasilian jiujitsu and hokutoryu jiujitsu and at the momet I train MMA. When I was 16 and I was very week little guy my weight was 55kg and I could beat people who weight was over 100kg at brasilian jiujitsu and wrestling. I could beat twice larger and stronger persons than I was because wrestling techniques that I have leard from jiujitsu and mma. Those opponents were of course beginners and untrained but if I would have to use that videos techniques at the time I would lose. Karate was only martial art where we used some wierd shit but there was very much good things too. I learnd good kicking techniques from there. But my point is that these techniques are based on strength, and they are complicated. When situation is rolling over you and panic and stress reactions are becoming to effect there is no way to use tricky techniques. Graplin techniques are pretty simple and they can be used at the stress situation if trained right. Getting suspect down is easy part but keeping him down there and get him handcuffed is another task. Not single one of my suspects have escaped from me when I have get hold of them but there are times when I couldn't perform handcuffin without waiting a backup to help me. If you wanna be a good police officer or security you should get lessons from wrestling, brasilian jiujitsu, mma or other arts which contain wrestling combat.
