Perfect for me. The type of recording I do usually only require 1 to 3 mics on drums. I make very subtle EQ changes and print those tracks. I never run out of DSP. I'd you're nervous about committing to a sound, you can simply print multiple versions of a mix and save them and go back to them using them as checkpoints. I find printing and commuting to a sound helps me work faster too. Eliminates over mixing which is extremely easy to do. 😊

Great video! I am very grateful for the Thunderbolt 3 warning on pre-2016 Macs. I've been a very satisfied UAD user for many users. The low latency and sound characteristics are simply the best. As a Mac user, I am disappointed that when Apple releases a new operating system, UAD compatibility lags by anywhere from 6 to 16 weeks....so we patiently wait while the rest of the Mac community benefits from the upgrade.

"US doesn't supply you with a thunderbot 3 cable in the box" - yesterday i drove to a session an hour and a half from my house, only to discover i'd left my interface (Audient iD22) at home. 😩 The singer only had so much time to track so I sped to guitar center, where the cheapest thing they had on the shelf (thanks covid) was this Solo. Thankfully the sales guy warned me I'd need to buy a cable. Not thankfully, guitar center doesn't sell them lol. Sped to walmart - nope. Sped to Best Buy and snatched the ONE they had. Drove back to the home session, downloaded, registered and restarted. Had no idea how, and no time, to mess with anything, so thankfully the settings sounded great right out of the box! We captured more than enough vocal takes, just in time for my singer to rush to his oral surgeon appt 😳. How many grey hairs did UA give me by not provided a cable? I mean, at least 4 haaa. Here's the real kicker. They made this interface sound so dang good and gave me so many useful plugins, that I'm out $500 cause i'm not returning it. If anyone needs more outputs or channels tho, and wants to buy a used Audient, lemme know :)

I have the arrow. The solo TB3 is the same, except for the colour. One Sharc. When printing it’s not a big issue. When mixing, multiple tracks you will quickly run out of sharc memory. I bought a UAD satellite quad to help...but the satellite cannot expand the solo/arrow’s own single sharc. If you need more dsp, get an Apollo twin or more. console was also updated in Aug 2020 making it a better MAC GUI, with room for improvement still.

@EdThorne2 ай бұрын
You’ll need a lot of DSP for that. The solo is fundamentally flawed only having one DSP core. You’ll run out after 2-4 plugins. It’s a tracking interface rather than a mixing supporting system. The Twin Quad or X4/6 will have enough DSP for that. Also check out the Native UA plugins (they’re identical, null test proven). They use CPU rather than DSP.

Without the included plugins which sounds better and is luna worth it over pro logic , thanks Ps , do the apollo twins sound better than the solo , if the have different convertors 👍
@EdThorne4 жыл бұрын
Kenny Hi Kenny, lots of good questions here, thank you. The Solo and Apollo sound very close, the difference is negligible in my opinion but this may vary on different sources, I have to admit I only recorded vocals through the Solo. Luna is great and has some great features, including the Oxide Tape and Neve summing but functionality wise it is still a long way of being fully functional as a DAW comparable to ProTools. The key commands are the same and they are updating it regularly so it will get there soon. Luna Review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5XEmYGKrZhpf8k Regarding the Clarett, sound wise they are slightly different as you can hear in this video below (Scarlett, Clarett & Apollo audio examples) The main benefit of moving to a Solo would be the Unison preamps and missing and recording through UAD plugins (although you will run out of DSP quickly with a Solo, the more DSP you can afford the better). The headphone preamps are better on the Apollo units, and they both have a higher input gain which gives you more headroom before clipping at the conversion stage. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5zYpqt8q7N1lck I hope this helps 🙂

Hi. I have the Audiant ID14. It's good enough for professional recording. The converters are not just clever marketing, its marketing a good point about the unit. I use a Neumann mic with mine and the result is stunning. Try to trust your ears and forget about what these people say on youtube. Good luck!

@@tevankee8880 I'm terms of the converters. Class A pre's can't be faulted but it's the headphone amp that is supposedly lower quality. Question big man! I change from my pc (no thunderbolt) and macbook pro (with thunderbolt) pretty often. Is there a way for me to use the apollo with both devices whenever I want to? (for example. I was thinking, if i buy the usb version and then buy a thunderbolt cable. so whenever I want to use Mac, I can just plug in the thunderbolt to thunderbolt cable without external power and whenever I want to use PC, I can just change the thunderbolt to thunderbolt with the ucb-c to usb-a cable with external power). Do you think this'll work?
@EdThorne3 жыл бұрын
The USB version is ONLY PC compatible. It is supplied with a power cable because the USB connection can’t power the device. The thunderbolt version is Mac/Windows 10 compatible, as long as the PC has TB3 connections to power the device. Note TB2 does not supply enough power, so only Macs from 2016 onwards with TB3 will power the device. In terms of interchangeability, this could work as long as both devices have TB3 connections.

@Ed Thorne The answer is simple. USB-C is more ubiquitous than thunderbolt on Windows computers. UAD know this hence why they market USB-C towards Windows and Thunderbolt towards Mac. But both technologies are useable on both computers, except USB does not work on MAC for some weird reason! I think they did this for 1 good reason: convenience, but also for 1 crafty reason: UAD make much more money (in the millions) per variant.
