i can't see what you plugged in where. Do both the apollo and the satellite plug into the mac or does the apollo just plug into the satellite and only the satellite is then plugged into the mac? cheers

I have been on the fence too.. I still think I am going to get the satellite, so that I can keep the strain on my actual computer really low. That way I can run 60+ tracks and busses without worrying about the computer spending any power on processing whenever possible. As it stands I try to keep everything to DSP and then switch to Native whenever I really need it.

Although UADx offers a nice variety of plugins, I can't imagine the entire library going native. Especially plugins like capitol chambers and ocean way studios etc

The best is always to have professional gear when using a mixer. You can get a very good result just using a preamp for your mic connected to your audio interface, and then use plug-ins to fix the sound of your recording later. Ive been doing that for 15 years in Cubase.

Usually there is a small bundle of plugins that come with UAD units depending on when and where you buy it. The other plugins cost money, and they are not cheap.

Hi Matt, i recently bought the Apollo X Duo. Amazing interface but unfortunately runs out of dsp power quickly. Im thinking about buying the octo satellite to be on the safe side...

Matthew Stratton I figured out that the combination of MPC and UAD is really awesome. MPC Software struggles with too many plugins, hence outsourcing it to the UAD devices really helps. Allows you to mix completely in the MPC Software

@@MarcusFenixGears yes. The mpc software doesnt have latency compensation for plugins which is the number one reason why I don't use it. But using dsp is a nice work around.

It comes with a few to get you started. But most are not included and cost big money. Universal Audio often have deals that have different bundles through out the year.

Yep, if you buy a Thunderbolt 3 (from this device) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter (to your Thunderbolt 2 connector).

I have an Apollo Twin X Quad which only has TB3 connection. That means I will connect the Apollo to the satellite and the satellite will connect to my iMac. Is that right? I would think the Apollo would be the device I should connect to the iMac. Obviously, since it has only connection that's impossible.

Hello. This device adds the ability to use more plugins in your project. The Apollo 8 has 4 cores for processing UAD plugins. This devices adds 4 more cores so you can add more plugins that use the UAD DSP.

So you wanna get into UA trap, well you better have lots of miney and a shitty computer, because with todays powerful computers you can run as many plugins as your hearts desire. DSP was a great idea when I bought my Apollo 8 years ago but today with MacBook pro no issues whatsoever.

@@MatthewStratton I’m gonna have to buy another apple computer for my Apollo x8 because my old Mac mini is too old and the pc I bought has Ryzen 9 3950x Processor with an Asus ROG Crosshair Viii Formula motherboard so I don’t think it’s compatible and even if it is my pc fans are pretty loud and the Mac mini’s are basically silent. Aiming to get the new m1x Mac mini

No, the switch isn't loose. It flashes green to red when not connected. When connected it is green.
