I've had one of these kits from Harbor Freight for about 5 years and it works great.

I'm glad I watched this video I was just about to buy new calipers in the rear for my 02 Lincoln Ls v8 ill just buy the tool instead of renting it thank you 👍

At the work, where i'm at, we use one that connects to an air hose. It's the same principle, but it's air instead that puts pressure on the piston.

Good video !! Every Autozone and O'Reilley's has this tool for free loaner, no sense in buying something unless you need it a few times a year. Also make sure your master cylinder reservoir has enough room for the fluid being pushed back into it without over flowing
@MG-mt3ss4 жыл бұрын
IF they have the tool in their loan inventory !

Do you remove the cap off from the break fluid reservoir ..When pushing that type of cylinder ?

@@milanmastracci yeah I noticed after I commented like a dum dum that you said you got it on amazon. I was looking in autozone and advance auto for this tool set. I am sorry about that lol.

What do I do when the tool will not turn the piston clockwise on right (passenger side in US). I can turn it counterclockwise, but the piston will not retract. Any ideas? Right now I'm dead in the water unless I drive it to a shop with three brakes. Any way to release the spring that Milan mentions. I do have the Parking brake off.
@milanmastracci4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like your caliper might need to either be rebuilt, or replaced. Sometimes they seize
@LacyHidalgoGato4 жыл бұрын
crack your brake line to drop the pressure. You will have to bleed your brakes before you can drive it again, so you will need a helper to pump the brakes so you can bleed the air, and of course you will need to add some new brake fluid to replace what you bled. Usually if your piston won’t retract when your brake line is still connected you should examine your brake line for damage (pinched, or clogged line)

Great kit..did my 2003 Passat rear brakes. Used the loaner option from Autozone... These are so cheap cos china.

Do u open the brake reservoir cap or open the bleed nipple when pushing back the calliper piston. Thanks :)
@milanmastracci6 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I don't do either of those. If the piston has been pushed back in without introducing air into the system, the brake system does not NEED to be bled, however it is a very good idea to bleed it afterwords by opening the bleed nipple found on each caliper.
@kaibrown9876 жыл бұрын
milanmastracci thanks for the reply. :) I have alway opened the brake reservoir but heard it can damage the master cylinder by force fluid back through. I hear some people open the bleed nipple when winding back the piston. I have never bled the brakes after changing them 🤔. How much do you bleed them. Enough to release a bit of pressure or a full system bleed.. thanks again Kai 👍😊

Don't get duped into buying the $60 kits from Autozone, Napa, Advance Auto, etc. I did as I didn't research online first. Found this kit and promptly returned the kit from Napa. No joke.. $60 compared to $20 online.

Doesn't always work.. If the caliper works great and isn't too corroded, that method won't work.

At my job we just use a crowbar and push the piston in while everything is still assembled, so we don’t worry about that later. (Leverage)
@milanmastracci6 жыл бұрын
That can be done for the front callipers, or the rear callipers without the hand brake mechanism attached to the caliper.

Brake fluid shouldn't be refilled, instead low level tells you that brake pads needs to be checked/replaced
@GTloverGT6 жыл бұрын
Either that or the system should be checked for leaks
