Hi Jonathan, I'm an Ethiopian Orthodox deacon. I'm very fond of ur work. Ur discussion with Richard was very interesting. Listening to foreigners talk about Ethiopia can be a bit strange sometimes because some western scholars have bizzare ideas about Ethiopia. And they could sometimes be very wrong about Ethiopian history and the Ethiopian Orthodox church. But I think u guys did a wonderful job and did ur research very well. I hope I will be able to meet u and Jordan Peterson some day. Ur work has influenced me a lot. I also admire your good friend Jordan Peterson very much. His lectures and the way he thinks are very close to Orthodox ideas and teachings. I sometimes feel like I'm listening to an Orthodox priest when I hear him lol. I don't think u were able to visit Aksum and see some of the incredible monasteries in Tigray and Northern Ethiopia. I hope u will come and visit again. Please let us all know when u do. And I also haven't seen Jordan or you giving lectures in Africa so that is something most of us are looking forward to. I thank u for all the incredible things that u are doing.

Atleast The Symbolic World is willing to have people on from multiple Christian traditions. I can't say the same for apologia.

The Christianity was known to Arabs and they were frequently coming to Ethiopia ( Habsha - Arabic ) , for trade . The early Muslims approached Ethiopia to get a refuge against the idol worshippers of Macca . The King Najashi of Ethiopia found the reality of Islam when compared with the beliefs of pagan Arabs, through His books 📚 . He got satisfied and offered asylum to the followers of Islam . Christianity was the oldest religion in Africa 🌍 Therefore the early Muslims came to Ethiopia ; other wise they would have contacted with the Christians of some other areas . There are speculations that the ESA peace be upon Him , had got dark complexion . It's also said that the original Jerusalem was located in Africa 🌍 . Even the ancient Jews were not white . Even the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon Him) was not white . And this is natural as He was from Macca .

@werqzeleke28152 жыл бұрын
It's also offensive word ,
@V_Gabriel Жыл бұрын
Actually habesha derived from the Mahri language which means "gatherers" (as in gatherers of incense). As far as I'm concerned the word has never been used offensively or to insult people. This whole offensive thingy is a resent thing people came up with to tarnish Ethiopian history. I just hope we can all look past our differences and find a common ground instead of tearing each other's history down. People will proudly tell you they're habesha if they're Ethiopian because it was synonymously used unlike today where some people are using to associate the term with certain ethnicities and also changing the meaning so to make it seem as tho it was an insult to them. Hope this helped with the misunderstanding. ✌️Good day

These two regions have high population in orthodox religion compared to other regions in Ethiopia. I understand that our church may not be in full communion with Eastern Orthodox because we are non-Chalcedonian. However, other than Egypt we are really the only African country that have old and ongoing history in practicing the faith. Hebrews 13:11-14 says, The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.

The Oriental Orthodox were the first to break away, the first schism was caused by them, long before the Catholics. However, the differences between the Orthodox and them remain much smaller than the differences with the Catholics and Protestants. They are almost exclusively related to the heresy of miaphysitism, which, at least in my view, is such a fine theological line that the majority of the faithfull will not even know to explain how in the world this led to a separation. The rest of the doctrine is almost identical, their monastic tradition the same. That is why, as an Eastern Orthodox, I have a feeling of being at home in the Oriental Orrhodox churches (especially the Coptic one of Egypt). I cannot say the same about the Catholics and Protestants, which, in spite of the fact that they broke away much later, and with whom we share a lot of European history, have made so many inovations across the centuries, that very seldomly an Orthodox can recognize any common roots with them. Both schisms are deep wounds for the Church, and we pray that God will find a way to heal them, but yes, I also feel the Oriental one is bleeding more, as the difference is such a subtle one...And, leaving the difference aside, these Oriental Orthodox Christians live such authentic lives due to their own historical context, many times experiencing modern day martyrdom. All my love and respect goes to them always!

Bzw oriental Orthodox isn't a schism its the original teachings of apostolic father about Jesus christ Which is he is one nature from two nature. This teaching have been known by saint cyril & other apostolic fathers also they have approved it in the 3rd council of Ephesus. Later on pope leo is the one who teachs heretical teaching which is christ is two nature which Catholic & Easter Orthodox accepted it as apostolic teaching.

Guys that was GREAT! I've always been extremely intrigued about the Ethiopian religious traditions, ever since I first heard they claimed to hold the Ark. I honestly am REALLY looking forward to the next episode with you guys, I wanna hear about these crazy saints!

I'm late arriving here, but, great video! I love all the Universal History videos. But I just wanted to say... regarding the Fincha Habera site - 3,469 meters in elevation is totally livable at. La Paz, Bolivia is around 3,600 meters, Lhasa, Tibet is about the same. People definitely live in both places.

with the Cup symbolism in the picture of everything, and you were speaking of the containment of the cup preserving, it made me think about sloshing at the top near the heavens that may spill out. and from there it made me think of the tradition in Judaism during the Seder where the wine is intentionally spilled a number of times for a whole grip of reasons. i don’t know much about this tradition/ritual, but i found this interesting to ponder on.

This is so amazing! I don't know if anyone related the pattern to this but I really felt the essence of this.. I related it to the edge by the Protestant movement as being the rejected that preserved the seed of the the Gospel.. and I could also relate it with the fall of Rome by the outsiders wild Goths that became Germany that continued the tradition of Rome. It's quite literally true... The pattern is universally working everywhere.. and Loved to hear the connection between India because I always wondered where is India in the end times. I do believe that in the end the traditions and stories of India and it's myth are deeply rich symbolically but it's mixed and incomplete in some senses...I sense there would be someone who would join these links and bring more to area to the Kingdom of Christ. thank you so much for doing this...

It’s refreshing to hear Africa being discussed by non/blacks as just people with no prejudices attached, it’s a very good taste of what the world could be,

Regarding the Sphinx, one interpretation I’ve heard of it is as a key to the Zodiac-identifying the true beginning of the Zodiac as the Virgin, and the end as the Lion, with all the signs in order from Virgo to Leo telling a symbolic version of the Christian salvation story. Just curious what you think about that possibility.

We've heard of union of East and West, I wonder what they'll make of the north and south with Deacon Michael's support of the Lutheran confession, and the Swedish backed Lutheran church in Ethiopia today. I'd also love to have heard 'the wizard of the north' converse with these too.

We need so much more of this. We let postmodernism tell the African narritive to the west, and it ruptured history

I was so excited to find this! I am a homeschool mom who has a fascination for Kush and its virtual extinction in history curricula today, but not in our home. I have a question that occurred to me while watching your video: The gospel of Matthew said that Joseph was told to take his family to Egypt, but we do not know where. So I began to wonder if there were any connection to Kush. I know that the intertwining of Kush and Egypt is difficult to unravel - I have found little that might indicate the exact boundaries, political workings, connectedness, etc. at this time. Can you give me any insight or guidance as to specfic sources? Ethiopian legends?

I'm from Ethiopia, You are quite right, though these countries look different in different periods of time there is ongoing relationship until this days. Earlier it believed that the kush(Ethiopia) used to be the Pharoh of Egypt for long time, and Ethiopia is the source of 86% of blue Nile river(Abay-Ghion) which Egypt highly depends on.and so much history, religion and culture in common.

Hey Jonathan. Can you make a video on the symbolism of "eating food". In some culture people tend to hide themselves when eating there "food". They don't want others to look at them when they are having their lunch or tiffin which they bought from there home. To me it feels something like "money changing" which should happen near the wall of the city.
