It’s hilarious how they opted to save The Great Outdoors cabin, but let the Jurassic Park set fall apart

I must’ve done the tram tour 3 times in my life and never noticed the TLW/JP3 set! I didn’t even know it was there until after it was demolished! Side note, really love your videos - they’re exactly the kind of niche that I live for

Commenters if you're surprised that they let a Jurassic Park set rot, just so you know they also let the THE BOAT (technically only boat, since the spare the used on set had went down during the filming) from Jaws decay, rot, which destroyed it, and eventually removed. When this happened Steven Spielberg was pissed. Not just for obvious reasons, but also a lot of times he'd go there and get on the boat himself from time to time. So he has a lot of memories, not just on set with that boat. Needless to say, they have a lot of history abandoning props and all kinds of things and them rotting away. Kind of sad the more you dig into it.

Thank you for this lovely video. I always wondered what happened to this setting when looking at some of the photos.

Tbh I'm suprised that Universal would abandon a Jurassic Park set of all things considering how prominite it is in the parks
@SmallSpoonBrigade2 ай бұрын
I'm not, it wasn't a very prominent set, and since it was designed to be a ruin, it wasn't something that lent itself to being used for other movies. Contrast that with things like the cabin that was used in Days of Wine and Roses that continues to be used to film things to this day. Most recently Abbot Elementary. It's a building that can easily be redressed in order to fit in with a new movie or TV show's needs and unless you are specifically looking for it, you probably wouldn't even notice it. Same goes for most of the WB physical studio that gets used for all sorts of things, commonly warehouse districts and prisons, although if you point the cameras in the right direction, it can be all sorts of other things.

That set was long demolished before the cabin was moved from Jupiter’s Claim.

The Jurassic Park set wasn't too memorable. You could barely tell what scene it had been used for. There were barely any identifying markets anywhere on it. Glad they kept the cabin.
@jurrassic-t9q2 ай бұрын
Probably because of the films downfall (jp3 )they abandoned it because when I visit the tour I just see sets thst were a hit like Bttf, jp, psycho, jaws, cars from various hit films & rons enchanted car (Harry Potter) war of the worlds Like when I was little we used to go by desperate housewife’s & the Munster house, idk if they still do but just a fact I remember.
@SmallSpoonBrigade2 ай бұрын
@@jurrassic-t9q Yes, I was just up there a couple months ago and Wisteria lane is still there along with the Munster house. I think the main house that isn't there any longer is that one they burned down for a show, but from what I understood, it would have needed to be torn down anyways. And the original Psycho House was torn down many years ago due to it just being old with nearly every piece already having been replaced due to it being so old and not intended to exist forever when constructed. Personally, when it comes to the Jurassic Park series, most of the things I think about are in Hawaii. The exception being that WB Studios owns the stretch of road that they used int he first movie to film the T-Rex chasing the Jeep.

The tour doesn't always go through the backlot the same way. Most of the time it does, but occasionally parts of it will be closed to tours due to filming that's going on. I mean, obviously, the Jupiter's Claim portion couldn't be properly open while filming, same goes for the various backlot streets that get used for filming. It was rather apparent this year during their 60th anniversary when they really switched things up to allow people to walk around a bit.

I enjoyed the video, but from the clips and photos used, it's still a bit difficult to picture what was located where and when. Perhaps you could add some graphics of these structures in their relative positions to one another, as seen from overhead. Either satellite pics or park maps, or your own drawings.
@SmallSpoonBrigade2 ай бұрын
I think the issue probably is that the Great Outdoors cabin can be used to film other things. Whereas the Jurassic Park set has a much more limited use due to being so tightly tied to the movie. Not everything can be preserved and if you're talking about something the size of a set, then it had better be usable for other things. I took the WB studio tour the day after I did the Universal Tour last August and they've got stuff there that has been used by pretty much every major film company ever thanks to their open lots policy. It kind of blew my mind that the cabin that was used in Billy Wilder's Days of Wine and Roses sits within a couple hundred feet of where the T-Rex was chasing the Jeep in the original Jurassic Park movie. And that the pond in front of it has a massive death toll in terms of just about every murder mystery that has to fish somebody out of a body of water at some point fished one out of that pond. Also, Luke's Diner from Gilmore Girls is connected to one of the banks that Bonnie and Clyde robbed in the movie, there isn't even a wall between the two sets. And if you look out the front door of the Diner, you can see a recreation from the couch and fountain scene from the beginning of the Friend's intro. It kind of blew my mind that those could all be in the same universe. Personally, I loved the 60th anniversary tour because after all these years, I was finally there when Norman was trying to clean up his "mess."
