I love this format of explaining the simpler stuff and then showing some more complicated stuff. Another wonderful video, Mike!

It still amazes me How changing just the bass line and the rhythm can change how the same notes sound so drastically.

Absolutely!! It almost makes it sound like a different lick!!

Yet another great video! Thanks for sharing another tasty rundown on the Hammond. Extra points with the kick ass Garth Hudson for PM with the reverse preset keys.

Thanks, Brother Mike! Love this stuff. I hope touring was fun. This drummer/guitar player now has an m3 , Rhodes mk1, and a beat-up 1926 story and clark in his living room. Lol

In a Station is one of my favs. I only have one manual and these lessons are really awesome. Our house is too small for a real Hammond….lol…Thank you.

Garth is the only member who's still with us. I wonder what he's up to these days? Like me, maybe just hanging out -- chronic disease, pain, and loneliness are only a few companions of aging that can zap one's energy. Well, I hope not. Garth is a complete musician; he plays keyboards, solos on reeds, brass instruments, and more. He did much of the arranging, too, from what I've seen in film clips. Wikipedia has its problems, but I learn a lot from their topics about so-called Classic albums. The Personnel section is especially interesting when it contains more information than the album cover. The listing for their self-titled 1969 The Band release lists Garth Hudson playing: organ, clavinet, piano, accordion, melodica, soprano, tenor and baritone saxophones, slide trumpet, and bass pedals. Garth added so many colors to their music that without him, The Band might have been just another folk/rock group that never caught on, even with all that up front talent. Ironically, few fans know his name. God bless Garth Hudson. 🙏🏼

"He literally wrote the book on Hammond organ..." *web search* no organ books by Jimmy smith. Does "literally" mean something different in Canadian, eh? LOL!!!! Another good vid. quite helpful to for a talentless hack like me! These licks are everywhere, though most people don't know where they came from.

In his commentary on Genesis, St. Augustine wrote that God has given us two "books", the Book of Nature (which is the natural world itself) and the Book of Scripture, the Bible. So perhaps we can say that not all books are written on paper…
