Reminds me of Bill Walsh’s stint with Stanford in the 1990’s. He went 17-17-1 in 3 seasons. Bill Belichick’s success was right place right time. He had a great quarterback and his defensive schemes were still legal and practical. These days the rules have changed to favor offenses. You can’t hit the players like you used to. This is just a sideshow that’s going to end badly for UNC.

Think you guys are missing the point on this one. This is more about UNC investing in football like never before. Even if this fails, I'm confident as a UNC fan, they dont go backward from here. It's definitely risky, but what is UNC supposed to do? Wait for Monken to get his footing coming from Army? They just had a natty winning coach get fired. We know how some of the UNC fan base was and is when they're not winning, and there was no momentum going into next season. This move flipped the energy immediately. This isn't just any coach, and the landscape of college football is changing. I'm interested on recruiting and how that's handled like Kenton alluded to, but if they can get even 1 great year (10+ wins) and a couple of good years (9 wins) in the next 3 years and not lose to a G5 school 70-50 at home, I would be happy. They needed this, they paid for it, and will need to continue to if they want to win. That's just how it is right now. Will be interesting to watch play out whether you're a fan of the Tar Heels or not. Let's see what he can do.

You are 100% right!.State (Kenton) cant recognize that this move is LONGTERM. A plan will be in place for sustainable success AFTER Bill is gone. Can't wait to see the triangles response to a Tar heel resurgence!

Dude, Bill is NOTHING SPECIAL. he was nothing before Brady, and he was nothing after Brady. He's trash, you'll see soon enough.
@MisterArdorКүн бұрын
@pnut3844able He made the decision to go to Brady because he thought he would elevate them even with Bledsoe being the money guy. Thats a good coaching decision. Do you think he was trash the year Brady got hurt and Matt Cassel came in and guided them to an 11-5 record? He was trash that season? Brady wasn't "GOAT" Brady as we know him for all those SB wins either. Him and Brady together worked for sure. But to say Belichick is trash is ridiculous. Im not a huge Belichick fan, but I'm excited to see what he can do at this level. He's as qualified to get it done as anyone else they could've hired! He also knows defense, which is something UNC desperately needs. Yes, he'll have a learning curve being new to college, but he knows ball. You can give him that respect. His 6 SBs isn't the equivalent of Robert Horry's 6 NBA rings. Belichick played a big role in them winning those.

Kyle McChord was in the same situation. Nebraska offered more than Syracuse, but the relationship with Fran Brown won out.

I'm happy for NC. The money alone will be worth the coverage they get. I'll be tuning in to check them out. But I'm neutral towards NC, with no positive or negative feelings towards them.

Ok, on UNC. I'm mixed for Unc on this decision. I'll pretext this as saying the college landscape is more matching the NFL landscape more than ever. Here in Syracuse in 2005 we hired Greg Robinson had minimal college experience before being a defensive coordinator in the NFL. Robinson was the d.c for the denver broncos during there two superbowl seasons 97 and 98. Well Syracuse hired him in 05. He was here for about 5yrs with them superbowl rings. Robinson was reciriting good doing the things that come with superbowl rings on a college team. Well he ran the most undisciplined, most penalized teams in college football. The problem lied with Robinson approach to handling 18-22yr old kids. He expected them to act and be professional with zero supervision. Well lead to police interactions, poor grades, poor training and a epic 5-32 record and destroyed Syracuse football for atleast 2 decades. Most of Robinson wins where vacated do to his players being academically ineligible. Between Nfl head coaches and coordinators that have came to college with minimal or not coaching in college lately hasn't been great. Before everyone throws Sabin, Kelly, kiffen ect. At me listen they where in college football, went to Nfl for 2-5yrs and came back to college football. Herm Edward had issues at Arizona, Chip Kelly hasnt been the same since coming back from philly in college ball. I wish UNC the best with there hire just wanted to say it isnt a slam dunk.

Ummm .. Kenton ... you might wanna go back and fact check yourself. "Solid " recruiting classes is completely subjective, but I don't know how Solid a recruiting class can be with single digit recruits.

Beliychuck was mediocre without Brady. The ACC is pretty weak overall so Bellychick can probably win with a good QB. Cunningham is an idiot since he is hiring another old fart who won't be able to coach for too many more years and probably won't even stick around.
