Is UW a really competitive school? Also, I’m thinking of pursuing pharmacy. Does anyone know anything about this program at UW?
@rachellelui4 жыл бұрын
I do think that UW is a competitive school to a certain degree because most students are competing to get into their majors. However, this really depends on the major you want to pursue. Unfortunately, I don't know too much about UW's school of pharmacy but you can find more info at sop.washington.edu/department-of-pharmaceutics/. I hope this helps! :)

Can you describe how hard it is to get into the cs intro classes? I’m hoping to get a cs major, but I heard it was beyond difficulty:(
@shine_simone4 жыл бұрын
Rachelle Lui Thank you for your convenience I really appreciate it:) What kinda activities outside class should I participate? I’m really looking forward to outside class activities!
@rachellelui4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Getting into CS intro classes isn't too hard because the classes are pretty big However, getting into the major is quite competitive. It is not impossible, but you would have to do super well inside and outside the classroom. This is because UW changed CS to be majority direct admits. Good luck though, I believe in you! I hope this helps.
@rachellelui4 жыл бұрын
@@shine_simoneNo problem! I was able to ask a few upperclassmen who is in CS and here's what they have to say. Projects: Work on personal projects that you find interesting! You can find a lot of examples, and a lot of people like to post their public repositories. I personally believe that building web applications is a great way to get started. There are a lot of guides and examples across the web and tons of API's that allow you to accomplish almost anything. Working with a group can be really good as well, and can help you understand the workflow for software engineers in the professional world. Projects are great for students in their first/second year of college and can add a lot of value and character to your resume. Hackathons are a great place to get started on projects and learn about many other projects. For UW, Dubhacks is a hackathon where you get to meet a bunch of other students, industry mentors, and recruiters while making interesting projects. RSO: There are a handful of organizations on campus that can help you get involved in CS. There are engineering fraternities, as well as organizations within the CS department. Being in a group of like-minded students allows you to get your hands on resources much more easily. Research: If you really enjoy a particular class, reach out to the professor and the TA's about research opportunities. Research can vary depending on what subfield of computer science you go into, but it is mainly focused on pushing the boundaries on what is possible in the tech field today. The best way to get involved is find a grad student who is working on a project that you find interesting, and reach out to them. Internships: Internships are the stepping stones to get a full-time job in the software engineering industry. If you are able to build up your resume thorugh personal projects, working within groups, or doing research, you won't have too much trouble securing interviews for internships. Most companies only look for interns that are juniors, but it isn't uncommon for sophomores to find internships too. Most internships opportunities are over the summer, but there are a handful of companies that do part-time throughout the school year.

@@michaelsorooshian5481 Thanks so much! Having been to both I think it depends on what type of parties you enjoy more.
