Thanks so much too shloopy5 for today's topic! And the reason i picked that one over a lot of other requests was the fact it got thumbed up loads. SOOOO make sure if you like an idea to thumb it up and make it happen!
LOVE YOU CHUMPS!!!! BTW today's topic is VERY difficult as it involved hundreds of different situations. I only have experience from theatre studies, So i never mentioned that a lot of careers require you to have a degree if you want to be successful. AND i never mentioned that uni was a great part of my life and i would never take it back!

I kind of agree with you about the learning thing...I could have just read a few books instead of study for 4 years (I have a 4 year degree) but at the same time I've definitely changed as a person. I've just finished 2 years at uni and would never regret going because I've met amazing people, learnt to live away from home and kind of opened my eyes to things..i was in a bit of a bubble before so yeah uni has been GOOD!

yeahh from talking to people who have jobs in film/the media/music etc, there is absolutely no point in a degree in those subjects unless you're just postponing real life/really really like education, because you could just have started work at eighteen and then by the time everyone else has finished their degrees, have had three years experience and already be working your way up in that career. so instead of taking my English degree .. I could already be a classroom assistant! waheeeey.

I graduated 2 years ago and every job I've had since then have had nothing to do with my degree. I think I only did it (English Studies) because it was something I was good at. I never really had any idea what I wanted to do career-wise. It's taken me 2 years since graduation & a lot of 'stop-gap' jobs to make me realise what I really want to do career-wise. I'm studying to be a TEFL teacher in South America now. I'm glad I had that 2 year gap. I think it really helped. Good luck with post-uni.

I completely agree with you, university is a bad idea if you want to be an actor, its far too academic, drama school is a better option, but personally, just getting you're ass out there doing stuff to get more experience will get you the places you need to be, it's such a hard thing to talk about because it's different for everyone! I hope you do get work though. Also, when you do a uni course you dont come out with equity, if you go to drama school you get equity straight away.

I properly start my 3rd year of uni next week and I'm already stressed out with dissertation work. I mean yeah it can be really stressful but I've found going to uni, moving away from home has really helped me, like now I have so much more confidence in myself, I've learned to be independent do "grown up" stuff like financing and budgeting, and I made new friends. On the other hand... I'm really not looking forward to being in debt and figuring out what it is I actually want to do...

I went to art school right after graduating from high school, but i didn't like it, it was an endless party everyday and I just lost my motivation, then I went to another uni to study Psychology and I went insane, it was a posh uni and everyone was too busy being posh and traveling and having smartphones, it made me hate society, srsly, and now I'm finally at a uni I can actually bear being at, and I'm studying graphic design and I just love it, and it's great to see i'm not alone in this one

University has changed me a lot. I've lived and am still living with an extremely abusive housemate, so it's been a lot of dealing with people and standing your ground. Also I'm a fashion student, so its very likely that I'll be unemployed! It is different from everyone, I found it tough BUT I'd recommend it to anyone, its a life experience like no other!

I am actually learning quite a lot from university. I'm in my fourth year and so far, I've been doing well but am having a serious case of senioritis. I just don't feel doing any of the work anymore and it's a constant struggle to get started on assignments anymore. I have no problems with classes though. Honestly, I would rather not be here right now. I want to go out and explore the world, but I'm gonna stick it out until i graduate since I've gotten this far.

thanks for taking my suggestion! I was at Warwick for nearly a year doing Phil/Lit but i left cus it felt pointless. Graduates i'd met said it had been interesting but thy could have read all the books on their own time and they had no practical skills! Plus i'm simply not much of a party or alcohol person so those reasons didn't motivate me. I'm still looking for work now but i'm on a part time course in something more practical. Humans have forgotten the joy of getting their hands dirty :D

I just started my second year of uni (in Denmark) and I love it! I study linguistics and I just know that is exactly what I want to do! Every day is just wonderful and exciting and interesting, the people here are amazing... But of course, linguistics is a very different subject from theatre studies. I think theatre studies is kind of like music studies (or whatever it's called, I'm not a native speaker) - it's just theory and not really the place for people who actually want to play music.

I've almost finished my second year in an Animal Science course, and all it's really done for me so far is deferred my transition into the "real" world of responsibility and bills and full time employment. I changed my mind about 6 months ago, but have decided to finish this degree and maybe work part time while studying what I really want to (creative writing, although I get the feeling that it's kinda like acting, and all the study in the world isn't as good as actually doing it).

I've been in university (Huddersfield uni like you haha) for a year and have learnt a lot more practical and useful skills in my field (Music Technology) than i did in 3 years of college and internet self teaching, I already have many contacts and am guaranteed a studio job at the end of my course due to just doing free work whilst at uni. The best advice I can give is to not just do your course and expect a job you really have to work at it,start at the bottom and work up, let yourself be known

I'm about to start my second semester. So far I love it, but I'm living at home so I don't know what it's like to live with strangers yet. I'll be on a dorm soon, though. When I transfer, I will probably be in the city. American universities are probably really different from the English. Also, I'd recommend taking classes (dancing, singing, stage fighting, etc) and experience is always more important to casting directors than Uni itself, believe it or not. Just invest in your resume.

You're in the right place if you still want to get into acting. KZbin seems to be getting a lot more media attention nowadays, and if you keep doing what you do (which is fantastic and creative and hilarious), people will notice! Thought I'd add my experience. I am currently in my second year at uni, studying theatre as well. Its pretty good, because the course is designed around getting as much experience as possible making, directing, acting in shows etc, in an actual theatre environment. My degree is going to give a peice of paper that costs roughly $35 000 AUD (v. expensive paper), but it's good because its giving me heaps of experience doing wardrobe and costume, which is my dream career (yay).

Well I went to an art grooming university too, but I studied writing and for me it was different, monetary wise and also connection wise, since most of the industry people was in that university. yes because we just study the subject we go there to do for 3 years rather than a number of subjects and then 'majoring' like in america, hence we get it over and done with much quicker. But that's the minimum course length, some courses are 4 or 5 years, and some are as long as 8.

I did my summer field school last summer of '15 and it was such a great learning experience. I've enjoyed both the field work and classroom and lab work all equally, it's been fantastic and so interesting. There's still so much to learn even though I've graduated. But last year I also joined my school's sketch comedy show by being on cast and also writing for them and found that I loved that a little bit more. So now I'm saving up to move to Chicago, IL to take classes at Second City Improv in January and go back and get my Masters in archaeology if this doesn't work out for me lol.

Im just going through the application process for uni now and it seems like so much confusion and stress for very little reward. I dont really know what the degree in fine art that I want is going to do for me, but I seem to have a suitable gap in the next 4 years of my life that I need to fill, so why not.

luckily for me uni doesn't cost anything here but still i'm only in it for the parties, once i'm done i'll work up enough money to just travel around the world and hopefully find some kind of purpose in life.

It realy just depends on who you end up being put with in Student Accom. my Ex-GF goes there and she has had no problem with roommates. but, everybody's experience is different, i know people at my Uni that almost went home because of their roommates, but I'm living with the same people i lived with last year when i go back next month.

I just finished university in August and now am taking the job I was afford before I went to school four years ago. If I hadn't met my roommate/best friend I would say it was a waste of time.

Just graduated university with a degree in Theatre. Looking forward to a lifetime of living in a cardboard box. This just in: the complete works of Shakespeare will NOT keep you warm on cold October nights. *sigh*

This is my second year and I'm studying electronic media, which is basically broadcasting, but I hate the news and have no desire to do broadcasting AND I can't stand the city I'm in, so I m trying my damnedest to transfer to a college in NYC for film and video production and maybe take some acting classes on the side. WOAH, take a breath, Lizzie!

Uni is a difficult subject for me too.. I'm in my third year doing Ceramics and Glass, and I have thought that it has been a bit of a waste (nearly £20k to be stressed lots and dissertation etc is shite).. But I have learnt how to blow glass (which is really freakin' cool) and wanting to go into that as a career (placement in the isle of wight this summer woo!) so I spose it hasn't been all bad ^^

I am finishing my third year in college. I live in America, and that pretty much means I am a junior... I won't be graduating for another year and a half. I'm a history major.

Uni currently is the biggest waste of my life. I'm doing my third year in Media Production, starting tomorrow. I've learnt nothing in the previous two years and spent more time working on actual projects with clients then I did at uni.. Wouldn't recommend Uni to anyone looking to do anything creative. Just go do it and not waste time getting drunk for no reason and owing money you shouldn't. i've decided to make my third year a lot more interesting by doing daily vlogs and challenges :D

I am in my second year of university. I am going for Health Care and I really don't feel that I am learning much of anything. When I finish my 2 year in April, I will have my Associates which I find out will not do me much good anymore and should go on to a Bacholer's which would be another 2 years. I am already at about $20,000 in debt and another 2 yrs would of course mean more debt. Not liking it at all

My brother just finished a 3 year astrophysics course and got a 2:1, he still had 3 grand left over from his student loan. I might be going into uni to do games development the year after next :3

Went to college to do Art and Design for 2 years. Did have one interview for University but didn't get in. Apparently, that was enough for me and I didn't go all together, haha. Glad I didn't, though. I kinda like writing better now and I'd rather try to get somewhere on my own. Freelance all the way. :)

do whatever you feel is right, i was never pushed into going to uni, i just did it because its what i think will be better than me. Follow your dream is an okay saying, but you have to be realistic as well.

college college college...I had been let go from the nursing program after 3.5 years this past semester so now i'm thinking about community college to finish it up..it will take a bit longer but will be worth it...i would have had to owe back the college $140,000 but i was also in an army program and they paid for it all..so basically 3.5 years of school, no completed degree but no college debt..could've been worse

I like you Chris. I think you're really funny and talented. How are you putting your degree to use? I don't know how it works so this might be a stupid question. Do you go to theaters and try to get parts? Would you consider moving to Hollywood and finding an agency (or whatever one does to get into television commercials and such)?
