It's been a tough couple of months for me with my ME/CFS, anxiety and depression. It started to get out of hand because of the amount of university work that was necessary but my failure to acknowledge how bad the chronic illness flare up was allowed it to get completely out of hand. In this video I show vlog footage of my university work load 6 months ago and talk about how it directly effected and arguably caused my 6 month flare up.
Everyone with ME/CFS is different! So you or someone you know might have a very different experience with ME/CFS than I do at the moment! Also, remember that chronic conditions such as these can change dramatically over time, so my life may look very different to this in the future (and has been A LOT worse in the past).
Thank you so much for watching!! Make sure to like, comment, and subscribe to see more videos from me every other SUNDAY! (Depending on my health)
About Me:
My name is Elinor, I am a 23-year-old sociology student who has been living with ME/CFS for 7 years. I also have anxiety and depression as co-morbid conditions! Wow I have recently began watching your videos, this one in particular is very relatable. I am currently mentally preparing myself to start my final year at university. I was diagnosed with ME/CFS during my second year and spent more time at home than on campus. I am so determined to reach my career goals, but it can become so debilitating. Also very hard to maintain any kind of social life as attending university literally uses up every bit of energy I have. Thank you for allowing us to see your journey, I often feel alone because not many people understand.

This is so relatable. I was determined to return to my studies full-time and in person, and I've now had to accept that studying part-time remotely is still pushing the limits of my capabilities. But it's kind of impossible to know unless you try!

I have just been diagnosed with ME/CFS and I 'crawled' through my university years (worst time of my life 😭) and I relate so much. I wish I knew what I was suffering from then and so would not have just spent 4 years pushing myself everyday through tears!!! It is healing to know someone else also had such a similar experience (I'm sorry you suffered too though 😢🤗).

I have absolutely been there, and it's awful! I started a master's and had to drop out, but I managed to get on to one that has a January start, so even though it's a similar time frame, it's much more spread out and I'm able to go full time. I recommend it! Also, I'm sure I'm not the first to say this but your health and flare ups aren't your fault! I so easily get trapped in the mindset that if I get enough rest I'll be fine and it's so easy to forget how bad it can get. Whilst it's good to reflect and acknowledge our mistakes, try not to blame yourself. You can only do so much! Btw love the hair! ❤️

Thanks for sharing. Can definitely relate to this kind of experience, though mine's a little different since I got to a US university. But definitely pushing hard through semesters made it worse for me even when I did manage to complete things, and plenty of times I didn't. Chronic illness and school is hard.

The will and urge to do things is a difficult one to balance and control, good to hear you took control and are improving. What was your PEM pattern like when you were doing so much? How would you characterise your PEM symptoms? It would be interesting to hear. On a big day at work, my orthostatic tolerance symptoms get gradually worse until I can do no more, brain fog and weird symptoms take hold and my energy crashes when I get home; then on the day after I’ll feel fatigued, more achy and brain foggy. Good luck with Uni.
