Oh memories. Purchased brand new 75 Austin Marina. Honda not available East Coast Canada. MGB engine. Went to Europe for all 79. Slave cylinder seized. Blew hydraulic line. Dealership part, not available, anywhere in Canada. Was young. Spent next six months trying for a permanent fix. Expensive, damaged much. Learned also just how bad English electrics really were. In 81, got t-boned at a stop light. Goodbye car. Swore never again. The best of British was very good indeed. MGB was THE entry level sports car for decades. Handling, power, decent torque(93? hp before smog eqpt). Lots to fix yourself. Quality control became a sick joke. Got to drive an MGBGTV8, an E type Jag and a 66 Cooper S. Wire wheel MGB were wonderful. Lots of not wonderful went with that. Some shops awful some wonderful. I came to hate the Vancouver dealership parts dept. Forgotten name. Thank you John Twist you are a true master tradesman in the finest of traditions. I have watched each video at least once. Please continue. Good memories with bad. What you preserve is important. You have to know the starting point to know the journey.

I got a headlight wire and the damn thing was too bloody short! I'm not sure if it was just my car that caused this problem but yeah, I was a bit pissed off!

Hi John and all MG lovers, my problem is the clutch that sometimes travel freely all the way to the floor. Fixed a new master cylinder (Lockheed) all were good until it was grounded for 2 years. Change a new set of MC kit and slave, system bled and has a solid peddle. No leaks anywhere. Moving the pedal up down several times in a short period of times results in the clutch pedal dropping down ever closer to the floor. It will reach a point where the pedal won't move enough to disengage the clutch. If I stop moving the peddle and wait for awhile the pedal comes all the way back up and the process repeat again. Please advise and help guys. Thank you.

Just replaced my master and slave cylinder and resolved this problem. First I replaced the slave and it made no difference, then I replaced the master and everything is normal again

I think my slave cylinder just died on my '72. With engine running i cannot shift into any gear. With engine off, no problem shifting. Pedal, today, feels mushy too. I checked master reservoir and it's full. Does slave always leak if bad?

Maybe if they stop making these things using cheap labor from bloody China, we might get some quality products! China should start producing decent new cars before they can convince us that they won't ruin our classics!

Remember the Chinese build us stuff to the specifications of the company that exported it”. If you get crap, it’s because that’s what the company ordered. Somebody decided to make, an extra 1¢, so a redesign. The companies don’t have to sell crap, they can always get another manufacturer.
