As someone who graduated a few years ago, I would say the main pieces of advice: - Take the time to work out what you want to do! I did not do this really, and as you say having the time to be able to process it all. So the fact you are admitting you don't know what you want to do is amazing. - Get a catch-up with your uni friends in the diary soon! It can be difficult to get it in the diary, start it off now :) Plus it gives you something to look forward to every few months. - You will make mistakes and regret it, however that's ok! In some ways, it's better to work out what you DON'T want to do than what you like to do. - Hold on to good people in workplaces, you'll know a good manager/work colleagues when you see it. Enjoy working with them too, a positive work culture makes all the difference. - Try voluneering for a while! You'll meet so many new people and giving back to your community is always a good thing. - Keep journalling and reflect on your work or volunteering experiences. Why did the role make you happy? Is the team good to work with and why? - Trust your gut - if something isn't working out (job, etc) then work out how to manage it or what to do next. No job is worth damaging your own mental health. - Consider working with a counsellor or a career coach to help you process your feelings, especially graduate blues (which I definitely had). - Sometimes your "idea" or "plan" that you had after uni didn't work out...that's ok. You're taking the long road to where you want to be. - Never stop learning!

as someone who graduated three years ago, my advice is: take the risk of doing something you love for work, even if there's instability/uncertainty. I had to work a different job while I searched for a career I actually liked in order to support myself and save up, and then I took the leap---it has been so rewarding, and I couldn't be more grateful!

@@Ayesha-vy9gy great question! I think it really starts with knowing yourself-your strengths and weaknesses, your likes and dislikes. And if you’re not sure, it takes experimentation I worked a few diff internships during my college years so I knew where my priorities were (meaningful work mattered more to me than cool job perks, for instance). Through experience, confirmation from other people, self-reflection, and online tests I figured out my strengths (creative problem solving, innovation, adaptability, etc) and weaknesses (detail oriented work, repetitive tasks, etc). And I had studied abroad for a semester so I knew I could do overseas work and really enjoy it and not get too homesick I hope that helps! Sending good wishes your way!

Oh my word, it’s so comforting to hear a different perspective about graduation and life after uni. I’ve been in such a dark place in regards to my career, this awkward and unwanted gap year, what to do after graduating my second degree, wanted to do my masters but couldn’t because of financial constraints... This video just gave me a sense of peace for this season. I just need to process the life I’ve lived in uni and eventually, when I’m ready and everything around me allows, I’ll get onto the next chapter.🌵

Congratulations Jade on graduating!! It's such a big thing! I graduated 5 years ago and honestly still don't know what I want to do. Chatting to a lot of my friends over the past year we're all at the same stage where we're in our mid 20s and still don't know what we want to be doing or where we want to be living. Society and media and films and books all sell you that you'll have your life together by your early 20s; you'll be settled in your dream job living with a close group of friends and from my experience this isn't the case. But that's okay! Being honest it can be a lonely time. You move away from your friends and maybe move to somewhere new for a job and it's then trying to create yourself a circle of friends. My advice would be keep finding gratitude in the everyday and enjoy exploring whatever area you're in. Enjoy what you're currently doing without worrying about whether you want to be going the same thing in 3 years time. Opportunities will open up! X

Hi Jade, I wanted to share my experience with you post graduation! Its been nearly a year since I've left uni and reflecting back I couldn't have been more ready to leave. The education system in the UK drained me, I did a vacational degree so every grade I received back was subjective depending on who marked my work - I felt like I had poured all my energy into something I wasn't really getting any joy from anymore. After graduation I needed to decompress but also did not have the funds to take time out - I needed a job and quick. In this whirlwind I was working 11 HR days everyday for 7 months whilst living in a van to have lower overhead costs. Now I'm 3 months post job and have driven to Africa!! My casual magic for today is waking up in the Atlas mountains - a cool climate but with a hot sun ☀️☀️ 🌵🌵. I am shocked by what imaginable life I'm living now that I couldn't have dreamed of 12 months ago. Feeling very blessed and all because I didn't have a set path I wanted to take. Just took opportunities in their stride and left time to see what could happen. X thank you for this video you've brightened up my Saturday morning and given me something to reflect on :) have a great day!

I think it is so empowering that you are taking time to process all the lives you have lived and know yourself well enough that you need time to ground. That is so important, and I think most people lose this in college. I also think it's important how you worded it, "all the lives I've lived." How many of us push so much that we feel we live different lives through the semesters of college?? I think that's so honest and just so wise, but so tied to the fact that you traveled for your degree specifically! I also LOVE the reminder that there are two ways to see things: life is full of possibility, or nothingness. We choose how we see it.

Thank you Jade. Not many people go on KZbin and talk about the very important phase of discovering the next step, rather than announcing the next step. I’m still at University, and even though I’m at the age where most of my friends have completed a lot of the units whereas I have just found a major, that I think I love- I’m training my mind, body and soul to be content and at peace with where I am. Your video made me feel supported in this goal. I pray to God that you get to spend quality time with your family, that you get to find a way to incorporate your love of learning, no matter where you are and what you do. I pray that your 1 moth of graduation goes splendidly, and that whatever is meant to reach, you, reaches you.

I really truly deeply understand when you say that now you just want to go home and ‘process’ what you have been living this past years. I have been twice on Erasmus during my bachelors degree and after my second one, during the last semester of uni, everyone was making plans about what to do after and I just simply couldn’t think about it and decided to go home for some months and rest. This months have been very valuable for me but honestly I also think that they made me weaker and more attached to routine and familiarity than before. This is not necessary a bad thing, but it has been difficult to admit to my self that I no longer feel like the young girl that constantly wants to explore the world and meet people… this type of person is a version of yourself that you get to be when you are alone somewhere and has to force yourself doing things because otherwise you feel like you are not enjoying your time. It is a very complicated argument to express properly and I don’t want to be misunderstood, but I seriously suggest you Jade to at least find ‘a way of escaping’ after a couple of months spent at home, like for example a volunteer project, a trip far away, a short internship away from home… and then you’ll be really able to reflect about the type of life that you want, but moving back home just because you need time to ‘process’ and without a plan could be very dangerous. Take your time, is important, but also be strong and never loose focus on your dreams ✨

What a great video 🌱🌼🌻 My casual magic for today is going on a walk and seeing everything in bloom after some rain 🌧 I graduated in 2017 On life after graduation: I felt so lost after graduation. School prepares you for basically nothing that comes now. I think allowing yourself to fall into that gap a little, and being able to see it not as failure but as a space for exploration, will help you feel more grounded during this time. The best piece of advice I can give that is not career related: Make time for friends. One of the things people tend to do after graduating is diving deep into their careers, leaving them to put friendships on hold for a while. If you can, try to avoid this. You'll need your friends in adult life even more than during school, but now it will be harder for you all to meet up and make time for each other. Budget money so you can travel to see your friends, remember their birthdays, and come up with ways to celebrate the littlest things, do not let your favorite people become strangers. I feel silly writing this specific piece of advice, since you already run a successful KZbin business and you wrote a book(!) But in case anyone else reads the comments and wants some advice for graduation I'll add it anyways: After graduation you'll have to unlearn a lot of what school found necessary. The companies that will be lucky to have you will not have the time for you like your professors had. They expect you to solve their problems, not explain them how you got there. If that makes sense. The only way to proof you can do the job you accepted, is by doing it, which is so contrary to many school systems that it might take you some time to adjust to that. (I hope internships have prepared you a bit for this!) Find a mentor everywhere you go. Allow the people around you to teach you how to do your job, even if you believe you already know everything. Learn how to identify what you can learn from everyone in the room, even if you believe yourself to be above everyone. Honest compliments and giving your team mates credit for what they did does wonders for your companies' culture.

🍀🍀🍀As I was watching your video I felt that you're the living testimony of the value of journaling and the clarity it gives to the questions you (and others) ask yourself. I relate to you on many levels even though I'm on the verge of another kind of "graduation" (I'm preparing for my Ph.D. thesis defense in a few months). And although I'm 10 years your senior, I really look up to you and your habit of trying to express clearly your thoughts and feelings in order to avoid taking decisions from a place of fear or haziness. So, if I can give you some advice it is: avoid thinking this is the ONE defining moment of the rest of your life, you'll go through many other chapters by the end of each you'll feel similar to how you feel just now, but with more experience accumulated. Good luck on the final month of Uni and celebrations 🍀🍀🍀

Hi Jade. I’m probably a bit older than your usual demographic at 36, but I love your videos and your energy. I remember being at a crossroads a few months after graduation as to what I wanted to do, as i had the option of a PhD or going into more clinical work with part-time study. There was a period where I was so stressed trying to decide what I wanted to do, as I felt that the two options would take my life down two completely different paths, and I *absolutely* had to make *the right choice* asap. What I realised after is that I should have looked at it as having the luxury of choice - some of my peers only had one option for what to do in life, so the road was set for them, but I had the luxury of having multiple options and the option to decide what was best for me. So if I could go back to my younger self that was stressing about choosing, I’d tell her that. My casual magic this morning was, I’m staying with some old uni friends for a couple of days and their lovely golden lab Emma came to sniff and cuddle with me in bed as soon as I woke up 😃❤️🍀

We started uni around the same time and I am also graduating soon! I just want you to know that you’ve been a massive help during my uni days. I watched your “A message I wish I’d seen before my exam” pretty much before every exam and it got me through 4 years of uni. So proud of you and thanks for all you’re doing!

my casual magic today was to meet with my former teacher who helped me to get ready for my history exam to enter my dream uni and to catch up just on everything. so inspiring to see how all efforts are paid off in a year of studies. the sun was shining so brightly. and our talk about how being in a hurry leads only to managing to do less.

As someone who found your account from when I was doing my GCSEs and instantly clicked with your amazing personality, its been amazing to watch you grow into who you are today. Funnily enough, I recently came back to the Uk after my summer abroad experience in Seoul, Korea!! and it was amazing. Studying abroad is something i' ve always wanted to do and after not feeling content with both my academic and social standards at my home university, going abroad and meeting people from all over the globe was one of the best decisions that i am grateful to have experienced. I also don't know what I want to do after uni and am just finding enjoyment in pausing and reflecting as I know our younger selves would be so proud of all that has been accomplished by God's grace. Proud of you Jade! continue being you, learning and growing!

Graduated last year. It's hard, there's going to be a few months where it feels like you're losing your mind. But after that period you will feel really positive and grateful for all the good memories you had. Having a career is awesome. It's nice to just work on one thing in a deep capacity as opposed to just being a student, so you have that to look forward to. Something they don't tell you is in the same way you can sort of re-construct yourself when you go to University, you can also re-construct yourself after you leave University. I'm a much more positive and playful person than I was in University, and I'm learning more than ever while working. It is an end, but it's also a new beginning. Hope this helps. Love your videos!

I love hearing you talk about your experience at Minerva. I started watching your videos my junior year of high school, and I remember you talking about minerva in one of your videos. I remember thinking that I, too, wanted to study abroad and learn and travel all throughout my education, but I didn’t get accepted to minerva. However, I ended up attending the college that was my dream school since I was 8, and I found out yesterday that I got into the study abroad program that I’ve been obsessed with getting into for months. Watching this video is kind of reminding me how full circle I’ve come, and also made me realize how much your videos have shaped my thoughts on education and life in general. So.. thanks for everything! :)

My casual magic of the day was on the busride home, while i was sunk away in my own thoughts, a little Girl left the bus and waved to the bus driver with the biggest smile I've seen today. such a simple thing, but it brought me back to the present and suddenly I found myself smiling and being flooded with a feeling of gratitude and love. 🍀

My casual magic for today was seeing ethereal, fluffy cotton-like seeds floating around everywhere with golden rays of sunlight streaming on them, they honestly looked like little fairies 🪷 also omg this video has given me so much hope and comfort. I’m on my 2nd gap year rn and feel a lil lost, but you’ve reminded me that there’s just so much possibility and how exciting that is! It’s always nicer to look for the abundance that’s already there rather than always focusing on what isn’t. Thank you sm Jade!! 💖💖

Hey Jade!🍀 My casual magic for the day is this very moment. I decided to take a detour from my usual path and discovered a lush street with pink blossoms and pine trees with berries that almost look crafted, while I listen to your wonderful journey in this video. The uncanny visuals, the smell of nature, the feel of a cold breeze in summer especially in Texas and your beautiful words in my ears, is etching a smile on my face that I will not forget anytime soon. You are lovely, thank you for sharing your journey with all of us and letting us in for the ride❤️

hey jade, advice from a fellow 23 yr old brit who was rejected from cambridge and I ended up going to another uni for 4 years. I graduated last year and I didn’t get a job straight away but have been working a corporate-ish job (not as intense as banking) for the last few months. I was like you at uni, I absolutely loved every second of it and loved all my friends, I also studied abroad so long distance with some of them now, I loved my degree, studying, environment, I couldn’t find a single fault so graduating was really hard for me so I agree with you, you definitely need a mourning period. I can’t give a lot of advice (someone else feel free to tell me lol) because I’m still grieving uni and it can never be the same as living in that bubble but one things that’s helped me is having hope for creativity and opportunities, now I have a chance to try new things and shape my life how I want it, I haven’t got a set path yet but I have the luxury to be able to try different things and see what sticks!! ❤ 🌱

In my experience, I needed to massively relax after I graduated. I finished my undergrad in 2021, and after the stress of Covid, I just needed a break. I moved back to my hometown (ironically, Oxford) and worked a waitressing job for a year before undertaking a PGCE.

your comment about seeing the world as a place of abundance rather than scarcity is my casual magic of today :) ive felt the pressure of finding a job straight after uni because of financial and visa situation and it really sucked! I ended up not being able to handle the pressure of a stressful graduate job in the city straight after the pressure of final uni year and got fired at my first job and had to return home. So good call on resting and processing before making the next move Jade!

I started watching your videos when I was in High School. I had taken up the Science stream but did not end up enjoying, or being good at most of it despite my efforts. I remember making those flashcards for organic chemistry and biology (though I didn't look at them much later ;p). In all these years I have come a long way too, found myself a little bit more and things that I'm good it. I am graduating with a Sociology major from my dream college in about a month as well, and will be doing my Masters in the same as well. The plan is to move out of the city (I'm from India), but am definitely scared to leave so much behind. Growing up is scary for sure, but comes with so much more control and awareness over ourselves and our journeys (of course keeping count of a lot of privileges here) I thank you you for being a part of mine! All the best to you and everyone else who is graduating college this year! I hope we learn and grow much more during the coming years! ❤
