Your video provided a comprehensive overview of the Passwords App. I have two inquiries: 1. Within the Passwords App, selecting the + button to add a new password doesn't allow me to input the website name until after saving and then 're-editing' the entry. Can you enter all the details, including the website, at once? 2. The flamingo shirt you wore caught my eye. Could you share the brand and the store where it was purchased?

I am not currently using a password manager or Keychain - I have several hard copy pages of usernames and passwords. What is the best way to move over to this new Apple Password App?

Just found your channel recently and subscribed. I converted back to iOS and Mac after a long hiatus. Your videos are very informative and easy to follow!

Wow!!!! I’ve been scouring the Internet looking for a tutorial on this app. Until now none have answered all the issues covered in your video. Many thanks - new subscriber.

I'm so glad I could help. Passwords are such a critical piece of technology, and nobody really has a good system to keep them stored organized and easily findable. Apple's not the only one in this game... but for the first version of an app, I think they did a really good job. Please let me know if there are other questions you have that I can answer.

You should do a video about how to migrate from Authy or Google Auth to Passwords app.
@TheMacWhispererАй бұрын
That will be pretty hard since I've never used Authy or Google Auth. I can teach people how to migrate from Chrome or from RoboForm... but I have to have used the other products in order to explain how to migrate from them. In my world, I avoid Google whenever possible.

Is there anyway to tell through the app (or sort passwords) to reflect the last time a password was used?
@TheMacWhisperer15 күн бұрын
Not exactly, but if you click on the two arrows in the lower left-hand corner of the passwords section, you can change the sort to "Date Edited" which may help bring the more current notes up to the top. Not a perfect solution, but it's a brand new app... so maybe this will help.

@@TheMacWhisperer I need to go through it again slowly. A long list of your videos is full of videos I need to go through slowly and do what you do. Your music app was amazing. I wasted hours that morning trying to copy my music library to an SSD card. 1800myApple did not find a general method. All the songs are from my own CDs. I loved that you too have oodles of songs like I do. Keep up the good work!

Tried to download the app for my computer. Says it's not compatible with my device. I have a macbook air with Sonoma 14.6. Any suggestions?
@TheMacWhisperer18 күн бұрын
The Passwords app is part of the macOS 15 Sequoia update. If your computer is capable of doing the upgrade I would recommend it. You can find out by going to settings, general, software update. It should be available for most computers from the last 5+ years.

I actually just needed the iOS Whisperer. I am hoping that I don’t need to buy another computer.

Can you elaborate? It sounds like you’re hoping you never need to buy another computer… And you can live on your phone or iPad. I can certainly help you with that… But I have to know what you’re struggling with or what kind of help you need.

Right now using I am still working on getting more out of Apple Numbers program. I have learned how to do quite a bit, but I feel that there is potential to glean more from my data. You can count on me to keep an eye out for all your videos. I have an iPad Pro with a keyboard and pencil. 15 pro max

I understand the share password but, if the site has to send a code it comes to my phone so they texy or call for that code. I’d there a way that the code could be sent to them?
@TheMacWhispererАй бұрын
There’s a couple of pieces to this. First of all, if you are on a Mac, and using Safari, and have text messaging set up properly… When the code gets texted to you it will pop right onto the website and auto fill itself. On top of that, if you set up an authenticator rather than a verification code you can have that authenticator number present in the Passwords app and auto filled that way. So there are certainly ways to do it… Hopefully that helps.

I’m running iOS 18.0.1. My password app does not have any of the sharing options. Why?
@TheMacWhisperer14 күн бұрын
I'm not sure, it should have those options even on 18.0.1.. But you definitely should upgrade to the 18.1 release because there's multiple fixes, and it might solve that problem for you. Let me know.
@coldstone87Ай бұрын
Why dont they release it for windows and make it work with chrome as a extension?
@TheMacWhispererАй бұрын
They sort of did that... you can download and install the iCloud Passwords Chrome Extension here: chromewebstore.google.com/detail/icloud-passwords/pejdijmoenmkgeppbflobdenhhabjlaj But you won't get a Desktop Version of the Passwprds app, you will have to run it through the Chrome extension which is not quite the same. But at least your passwords from Chrome will Sync to your Apple products. As always, the Apple ecpsystem works best when you are fully in it... not halfway there with an iPhone, but no Mac computer. But at least this is functional...

If only it had an option to print out the passwords information.
@TheMacWhisperer11 күн бұрын
On the computer version, you can export it to a CSV and then print that out... The phone version doesn't have that same capability though. Personally, I really don't have a need to have a printed list of all of my hundreds and hundreds of passwords, especially because between this app and the other password management apps I use, I never need to look at them in that list because I have them accessible through apps. But by exporting them, you can accomplish what you're hoping to do.

@If my world was everything Apple it would be my answer as well. However, in the real world PCs outnumber Apple and PCs are used over apple by a large margin. Having software on computers (often phones as well) not supported by IT in a company is much akin to being convicted of statutory rape. I made a decision to use a IPad and IPhone for my personal computing but I cannot make a complete changeover as well as often double think my decision to go to Apple because of the PC dominance in the manufacturing and business world. Often paper, PDFs CSV or similar forms need to be my resources. BTW Your presentations on KZbin are one of - if not the best and most informative presentations I have come across. Please keep up the good work. Thank you!!

I previously used 1 Password and switched over completely to Apple Passwords a year ago, when it was still in the settings app. I miss being able to select password types, for example, only 1 special character. Is there a way to toggle these options?
@TheMacWhispererАй бұрын
You know, I will have to look into that. I have never used the Passwords app to create passwords for me... I think the randomized password creation systems are just plain stupid and make everything more complicated. If you check out the video at the end of this KZbin video... you can learn more about the password system I use for creating passwords. I'm sure if we dig around there's ways to adjust their automatic password creation system... but I would just create your own system and not use theirs in the first place. Just my two cents. Here's a video discussing my password system (it's a little out of date, but the revised one won't be released for the next few days, so at least this will get you up to speed with how I recommend making passwords.): kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6fRnZd_idx_ers

Thanks for the advice. I’ll watch the video and maybe come up with a new system.

If I understood question correctly. You can easily override the Apple assigned password when Apple suggests a password.

@TheMacWhispererАй бұрын
I'm sure it's possible... I haven't seen it happen. Are you using it just on the phone or on the phone and computer? If you have it on the computer, you have more oversight about what's in it and how it stores it, and we can figure out whether things are actually disappearing or not... If you're just using it on the phone, there are fewer options.
