Changing the switches to better fit your preferences is a fun way to upgrade your fightstick or all-button controller. Today, let's look at a new switch option called the Wind Engine from Haute42!
Thanks to Haute42 / Cosmox for the demo switches. If you want to try some, check out the Aliexpress link here.

I bought a set of the Wind Engines for my Haute42 T16 and played with them for about a week or so. To be honest I'm switching back to the reds purely for the lighting. For me they feel so similar and I rather have more lighting aesthetic. I could get the crystals I guess, but the stock switches give enough light where I feel I can just save my money. The Wind Engines really muddied the lighting with their housing. Now the G13 I bought...that really is a night and day difference on feel and of course it would be. Different switch types. So much so that I bought Crown buttons because I really loved the feel of those buttons on the G13. I'm really excited to try those out on my leverless when they come in. Anyhoo, thank you for the videos and insights. Love the content.

Yeah, switch videos are definitely weird because so much is personal preference and it's hard to get the vibe without experiencing it yourself. At least more people may be aware of this one and they are cheap enough they could easily try them out for themselves if they think they might like them based on the video. Thanks for watching!

I wish more controllers use Cherry MX style switches as there are infinite options to try for those. Just like the G13. Sure it'll either make the controllers thicker or have higher buttons, but there are way too few options for low profile switches. If a T series sized G series comes out, it's an insta buy for me.
@HushMySweet1

I totally agree. We've got the the Slab Mini, Slab MX, and the G-Series, (and I'm sure one or two more that escape me right now) but it would be awesome to see a few more full-size switch options out there to fill that void.

Seeing that extra quarter on the ghost got me feeling like paying the premium even though I know I wouldn't feel the difference, lol. My mavercade can use kailh v1 and v2s on the same board, but, to be honest, I actually like my v1 caps by a wide enough margin that I'm probably not gonna mess with v2 switches for a while. Not until there's something on the JFA micro's level of button cap for v2s . I love the smooth feel of the injection molding over the gritty texture of most 3d printed options, and the convexity is just right for me too.

how many quarters does it take to fully press down on the reds on your controller? I have stock reds in my S16 and it took me a whopping 14 quarters to fully press down on mine but I'm using canadian quarters and an S16 controller so there might be slight differences in our tests. I just want to get a better idea on how the wind engines would feel compared to the stock reds currently in my controller. I find the reds have a bit more friction than I would like and feel a bit mushy

I'm thinking of using clicky switches for my movement buttons on my S16. How have the blues been for you after using it for a couple of months? I tested the tactile browns but found my fingers in my left hand getting fatigued after longer play sessions so I switched back to the reds for the directional buttons. I like the tactile browns for attack buttons though, the feedback helps a bit with timing

I will not recommend using the switch puller to pull out the switches, it is better to simply unscrew the enclosure, and pull it out with your fingers, I already had two haute controller lose their soldering joints using the switch puller. I been using keyboard switches since I'm also a keyboard hobbyist, the board on these controllers are not the same quality as the keyboards, it is understandable since it is cheaper

Wind = 40+-10 gf for operating force. Crystals = 43+-10 gf for operating force. They look similar on paper, but I think the Crystal took two more quarters to fully depress. Definitely felt closer to the 50 gf of reds.

I am just waiting for someone to make "silent" switches and caps for the T16. The switches themselves don't make that much noice but the button caps sure do. I could print my own and then fill the with foam or something but I want something injection molded. I have 3d printers both resin and fdm but I just don't like using printed buttons.
@HushMySweet1
@HushMySweet1 Ай бұрын
Some nice injection molded ones would be pretty wild and I think would actually fill a void in our niche. Printed buttons (with traditional PLA filaments) usually have a coarser feel so they typically make slides harder imo.

Gypherogha beat me to it, but I would have asked the same. Which model are we talking about? KZbin eats the links, so I can't see it. But Haute42 is a brand name, so that doesn't give me enough info. A) Does it look like the one in this video or the one in the thumbnail? Similar to those? Or, B) does it look like it has square-ish, more keyboard caps? If it's similar to those "A" models like I imagine, then you'd be able to replace just like I demo in this video. You can grab an appropriate number of Kailh low profile V2 switches, just pick a linear kind that will be stiffer than red which is ~50gf. A lot of places sell sampler packs so you can try several before you buy. Good luck!

Here is a switch demo to give you some context. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6C3doWuhNdsY9E The ones in the video are V1 variants, but there are a lot of V2 equivalents. I am not overly familiar with the Gravity KS omron white, but at a glance, it looks like you would want something with a shorter throw or lighter than the stock reds. So, you would probably be a good candidate for either the Ghost or the Wind Engine. If you haven't purchased a Haute42 yet, then after you buy, 1) double-check to see if something else hasn't come out that fits the bill even better in the interim, and 2) confirm that the Haute42 model you bought takes low profile switches since some of their wares take full-size MX switches. (And if you get full-size, that opens up a lot more nuance in the switches, so you could find the exact switch for you). Thanks for watching!
