Thank You Mukesh & Dr Shyam Bhat for this enlightening podcast. You had our undivided attention for the entire length of the podcast. The concept of integrating Western science with Eastern thought and philosophy to achieve better well-being is indeed the way to go. IMHO, “West is bad” and “East is good” (or vice versa) may not be the right approach. Any paradigm pushed to its extreme does more harm than good. The collectivism and lack of individual free will and action, as practiced in the East had its negative impact on Indian society leading to us not realizing our potential and not living a fulfilled life. The low life expectancy, high infant and maternal mortality in India, before access to modern medicine and pharmaceuticals are indicators that our paradigm had failed at some point of time. On the other hand, the “I, me, myself” culture in the west with addiction to pleasure, leisure and substances is seriously weakening the foundations of their society and neutralizing the decades of improvements in the standard of living. Clearly, an integration of the best of both worlds could be the answer to preventing a mental health epidemic and enabling us to lead fulfilled lives. Thanks for highlighting the timeless advice on focusing on the effort and not on the results. Your thoughts on the importance of sleep, approaching the body and mind as a whole instead of piecemealing etc. were very insightful. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge in a simple and clear manner. Looking forward to more such podcasts.

Great discussion! Please allow me to throw in a plug for Transcendental Meditation … devised by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the 1950s, it can be learned easily, has no Buddhist connection like mindfulness, & allows one to transcend the mind, not become immersed in it. It is always better to learn with a teacher/mentor/Guru. Once learned, consistent dedicated practice is incredibly effective. Western civilization is in decline & has the potential to drag all of us down with it sadly. Thank you for doing this important work.

Its a great conversation starter, integration of east and west modality. In quest of self healing started the journey with therapy to yoga to meditation to sprititual texts and now interested in astrology, the influences of planets on our pre dispositions. Figuring out the inter connectivity of. Greatly influenced by the traching of philosopher alain de botton, who wwll integrates phycology constructs with the human condition of inherent nature of life which induces suffering. Greatly a fan of DBT which is wisdom oriented therapeutic modality unlike cbt

One of the best episodes. Informative and hopefully more therapists can look at addressing patients concerns via a biopsychosocial approach / elements from health psychology. Mental health is physical health!

This is the talk i liked best bcoz there is one doctor who appreciates the Indian system which we don’t believe in yet it is extremely powerful and deeply embedded in our day to day life through meditation, prayers and various beliefs. I have shared this with my family and professional whatsapp group.. gonna watch time and again

Really good episode. Just a suggestion to Mukesh about Devdutt Pattnaik - you really need to bring someone to counter his delusions and literal propaganda (by definition) on a handful of topics. Viral-worthy guest would be Sanjeev SAnyal if you can get his time.

interesting conversation. enjoyed it. the definitions of yoga and karmayogi is not correct at all , and do not capture the depth and its essence , in fact pretty much the distorted or in sufficient understanding of the west.

Saheb got integrative less nuanced with repeated "western structure" getting into repeatedly on fallacies with socio-economic structure with some eastern wisdom of Pseudoscience and lacking even basics etiology of such diseases which he's mentioning in podcast, hope he's with the term evidence based modern medicine more in real research if he does in the side of has he something newer approach towards AYUSH with government journal group coming with bare minimum on forming a database of Journal, far long to go towards systematic analysis which hope isn't some Western Toxic Structure i guess towards using combined Evidence based CBT & DBT. In short he got together all the synonyms hindutva majoritarian view with him and formed some integrative mental health, use water instead is the approach, creating alternative of medicine goood for fallacy building knowledge in Indian culture as many aren't aware and rarely with his all lumbo jumbo into ethnomedicine under medical health anthropology with some internal hatred and lust towards hate ao called west and making similar usa based medical system, similar testing structure in admission, similar western inputs into nep 2020 and nmc, his big farmer and big pharma fear i.e. good for budding researchers to getting such integrated, holistic, indigenous and so called easter knowledge towards more conversational and community based research for critical thinking and scientific temperament. Good the host had basics of interviewing right not the best but got bare minimum towards happily countering ayush pseudosayance alerts😂. 1st watch of this channel and not last nice capture but not bare minimum for KZbin based mental health database building coming from same capitalist structure he's taking about and conflict of interests.
