You can get cellular modems that allow you to override the TTL on the data packets. The TTL is how the carrier knows if you are hotspotting or not. That means that you can hotspot, but make the carrier think you are using the data on your device instead of hotspotting.
@HappilyEverHanks3 жыл бұрын
Oh very interesting!! We had no idea about this! Thank you so much for letting us know these great inside tips! YOU ROCK Brian 😃🙌🏼Talk to you again soon friend, be safe!

@@HappilyEverHanks TTL is "Time to Live." Every data packet sent over the internet has that setting as part of the packet. Every time that packet goes through a server or router in the network the value is decremented until it reaches zero then the packet stops being routed. Your phone and computers typically uses a TTL of 64. If I'm using my phone the phone company can tell because TTL has decremented only to a certain point when my packet reaches the phone company servers. If I was tethering my computer to my phone the TTL would have decremented one more value when the packet went through the phone so they know I'm tethering. If I go to my computer and set it to have the TTL value be 65 instead of 64, suddenly the phone company thinks the packet originated from my phone. So, when the data came from your phone the phone company sees the TTL as 63 (the TTL decremented by a value of one from 64). If you are tethered the TTL packet is 62 because it was decremented by your phone to 63 then again when it hit the phone company router. They see the value is not 63 so they consider it a tethering packet. However it your computer started with a TTL of 65, the packet would decrement to 63 when it hit the phone company and they would think it must have come from your phone. There are cellular modem/routers out there that have a setting that allow it to overwrite the TTL setting in packets passing through it so you can have an entire network behind that router that the phone company can't tell is from a tethered device.

Just watched this episode and the HDMI idea was great. I think Nae Nae, lol, was holding an adapter for her iphone. The androids have a tethering function where you can connect via a USB cable to a computer. Then you can use a HDMI or just use screen mirroring from your phone or your computer to the tv if your tv is capable of doing that. I haven't tried it yet but I know it will work also. Keep up the good work and maybe we will see you on the road. Doran and Diana Alford. Fresno CA.

@@HappilyEverHanks The Reflection 260RD is great for two people...and our springer spaniel! It's a smaller camper, but still feels roomy and has all the amenities of Grand Design. As a health coach who is fussy about how I eat, the 12 cubic foot fridge and great kitchen area really suit me. We will not be living in it full time, but we plan to explore the country more. Our son, daughter in law and grandkids live in another state and the camper will be a great way to go spend time with them, but not get under their skin! Sooo- it checks a lot of boxes. Add covid in the mix and camping in an RV really helps alleviate the itch to get out to see more of our beautiful country. Can't wait to get started!! @@HappilyEverHanks no we are newbie’s 1 year in. Rick retired in October so we are traveling around the US. I still have a few years of work. We have a long 3 week trip coming up and it will be our first time dry docking for a few stops. It’s good to get insight from full time RVers on how they do travel days. We are not big on truck stop cuisine and rest stop vending.

Hey! I found your channel while seeing if I’d like to live in a camper with my Mother for a bit while I save to buy a house, being in the military I wouldn’t be traveling but from your videos it still looks attractive to me. I just wanted to add something that may help you, I work as a network engineer, I setup internet and communications anywhere at anytime all around the globe, something we use that is useful for us and may be for you is a hardware called Cradle, which is like your hotspot puck but on steroids, it allows for external placement of the antenna’s, ethernet connections, and some even have dual sim card options, along with a hard wire that allows you to hook up landlines without reconfiguring everything. If you’d like feel free to PM me on here and I can help you! Keep up the great videos! Maybe y’all can one day come visit in Tampa Florida!

Another alternative to use non hotspot data, Use a regular router, set up a non internet VPN(instructions on youtube), i.e. just a local wifi network for only your devices to talk to each other. Then you can screen mirror from your phone to a smart TV, firestick etc. I use this setup for security/monitor cameras, like WYZE cams, nest etc.

I've been doing a marathon watch of your videos today. I'm doing research to transition to RV life for retirement soon, especially after having major house damage from Ida. I work from home and I have to have internet to do it. Starlink will be great once it's actually fully mature but until then I'll check out the Verizon 150GB hot spot plan. Your videos have been a wealth of information and have answered many of my questions. Right now I'm in a travel trailer while my house is unlivable, but once it's fixed I'll be getting a 5th wheel for sure and selling the house.

Samsung has this thing called DeX that in addition to using your cell phone for Netflix et al on your TV, provides a desktop environment. All you need is a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and you've got a more traditional computer setup with your cell's unlimited plan. Between Google Docs and all the apps you can find, you can get a fully functional emergency fallback with just your phone. For the price of an HDMI adapter, it can't be beat! I have to be connected 24/7 to maintain the IT infrastructure where I work so I've got that set up before I've got the wiring finished.

See, you guys are so fun I almost WANT to end up in the ER! 😂 We use cell phones (with first responder discount from Verizon...at work in EMS we were offered FirstNet from AT&T but we have held off due to less AT&T vs Verizon coverage). Also use a Jet Pack, along with a WeBoost installed on the rig. We made the mistake of having the WeBoost installed on “mains” power. In April we are having it moved to a 12V power source for more dry camping. And yep, we figured out the cable hookup “thingie” as well. Our challenge is we rarely watch tv, so the televator is buried. We have only bothered to bring it up for things like Super Bowl. Still default to great KZbin content 😉 on the ipad.
@HappilyEverHanks3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eileen!! It's so great to hear from you 😊You don't need to come to the ER to visit us! LOL Come find us on the road! That's awesome that you use Verizon and it works well. You are right, Verizon seems to have more of a broad coverage than we have found with AT&T. What are your thoughts on the WeBoost? Is this something like a cell phone booster? Renee and I are wondering if we should invest in a device to pick up that slack that AT&T sometimes sees in the cell phone coverage aspect compared to Verizon

All good information about internet I have a trick, when you have signal while driving you can download movies from your streaming services “ Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos, Disney” or which ever service you have and play on your tv or mobile devices with lightning cables. I travel by airplanes and travel with iPhone and iPad and it doesn’t affect your data. If you are in an area with no service you can still watch movie’s that you have downloaded. @@HappilyEverHanks I drive a 2014 F-150 2WD pickup and I've never towed anything in my life, so I won't be going very big. Looking for something on the small-ish side but large enough that it will provide my wife and me with many of the creature comforts of home on trips, when we're not out and about enjoying new places. Couple of comfy chairs for TV, full queen-size bed (no Murphy or fold-up stuff), roomy bathroom, plenty of AC/heating etc. I understand you two had also never towed things before buying your first RV? Was it the one you're in, now? That had to be terrifying! I have no doubt I could get comfortable with it, but learning in front of God and everyone at a camp site would be nerve-wracking to say the least.
@HappilyEverHanks3 жыл бұрын
That sounds perfect! Smallish is always nice to start off with as well, that’s exactly how we did it. Once you get comfortable with a smaller rig, taking on the larger one becomes pretty easy. I always feel like its a learning process. Even now, we are learning ways to do things quicker and more efficient. A great place to start is taking it into a large parking lot and practicing there. That way you have lots of space and defined parking areas to help in the process It’s definitely nerve-racking at first, no doubt about that. But it becomes better and better each time, just like most things 😊🙌🏼 we are so excited for you guys!!
