If you do get out at Newhaven Harbour by mistake, exit the station on the East side and follow the road North for 10 minutes, walk past Newhaven Town station and cross the railway at the level crossing to gain access to the ferry ticket/boarding office. My wife and I found this out the hard way! Great video again, thank you.
@sarahj82315 жыл бұрын
To leave the train for the ferry at Harbour you also have to ignore the information on the ferry website, posters at stations, notices on the train info boards, messages on the train, and often announcements from the on board staff, and even when told in person by on board staff to go, 'are you sure', and then ignore them as you know best.
@bertoltb13585 жыл бұрын
sarahj8231 But the ferry booking site via a phone didn’t mention it, the ticket machine at Brighton really didn’t care, the only station sign about it we could see on the return journey was at Lewes (We really had a good look for them), the dot matrix departure board was too busy, if there was an announcement we didn’t hear it and when they checked our ticket nothing was said. Yes we got it wrong, but we didn’t get a lot of help to put us right.
@sarahj82315 жыл бұрын

Ahhhhhh, this takes me back to the mid 80's where there was "Network SouthEast Day", where for a tenner (10 quid) you could travel anywhere in the Network Southeast network all day, 12:01am to 11:59PM. I would be out on a train at around 6am from Portsmouth, to London, spend the day exploring the underground trains, and have it planned so I get on a train that gets to Salisbury and change trains for the Cardiff to Portsmouth before midnight which If I remember was at about 11:45PM, the last Cardiff to Portsmouth. Once you were on the train, the ticket was valid all the way to Portsmouth. Those were the days.

I also wasn’t able to collect it from a machine at Victoria and had to queue up to get it from the ticket office, but I think there were general problems with their self service ticket machines at the time.
