When the defendant said he was qualified to fix the car because he worked at Auto Zone I about fell out of my seat laughing. I'm a professional mechanic who has heard the counter guys at all the parts stores give the dumbest advice on fixing a car. They have a code reader and a computer that prints out the biggest dribble I've ever seen. And yet time after time I hear people asking the guys at the parts stores for advice. It's like asking cashier at Walgreens advice on cancer treatment.

exactly. you buy the car AS IS. although it’s more expensive, buying from a certified, reputable dealership is a better choice. easier to do a carfax on a used car at a dealership, instead of some random person.

No it wasn't. The judge didn't follow the law. The defendant was just (Puffing) in the ad. I could buy something for a dollar and sell it to you for 10,000. There's nothing illegal about that. AS IS means AS IS. The judgement was wrong. The plaintiff only won, because the car had a lean on it, and it couldn't be sold.

They aren’t watching the case. They’re just people on the street nowhere near the studio. Harvey describes the scenario in 30 seconds and then BAM, the cameras roll. That way, they’re able to film a dozen segments in just a few minutes.

Always always ALWAYS have a mechanic check out the car before buying. If you’re spending 1k+ on a car, you can spend $100 on a mechanical diagnostic. Also do not accept a title/bill of sale without the actual person there!! Glad the defendant got his money back.

Excellent judgment on the part of Judge Milian. Car was sold under false pretenses. The Defendant re-sold the car because he realized he couldn't fix it or that the cost of fixing it wasn't worth it so he decided to make up a story and sold it at that inflated price. He knew be was being deceitful.

My husband was a professional mechanic and refused to flip cars because he believed more was expected of him due to his knowledge. I learned that buying a car from a private party their advertisement means squat . I bought a lemon before on Craigslist and the truck had so many issues that i couldn’t even count . So I decided to only buy from a dealership or the small car lots . Far better results.

When you sell a car, you BOTH meet and the DMV and you get it transferred while you are there and can witness it being transferred to someone else, for numerous reasons, but especially because you can be held liable i.e. the case at hand! Also, remember, insurance on a car, follows the vehicle, not the owner or driver, so who ever the car is titled to is the one who should carry the insurance and who is held liable.

We always buy older models of used cars from the same dealer "as is" but we have them looked at by our mechanic first and then add $1500 to the purchase price for any problems that might come up in the future. Only one time have we ever made a mistake but we're still actually driving that one so it's okay.

All 3 "dealership" cars had MULTIPLE problems even though they drove fine. Just in ONE car, oil leak, coolant leak, missing brake pad in front left tire... insane. Finally got a tip to look at buying a car retired from a rental fleet. Looked at one from Hertz (ya, I know, but that's another story), took it to the mechanic, he said nothing wrong, GREAT car. Buyer beware.

My first car taught me an expensive lesson...I was an 19 year old brand new Airman at my first base, saw a Sukui little SUV for a sale in the paper, called the mad and even took my older male supervisor with me to see it (he told me NOT to buy it, lol, he even called my mother and told her to tell me not to buy it) so what did I do take a $5k loan and bought it. It didn't even make it back to base and stopped, the mechanic told me it wasn't worth fixing and that whomever had it tried to fix something and really messed it up. When I called the seller he told me to go screw myself...another coworker called her husband who was an attorney to see if anything could be done but I was SOL because of Lemon Laws....traded it in and got a new 98 Dodge Neon that lasted forever

He Plaintif sounded all smart, he did all the correct research in the beginning. As soon as he said no mechanic checked it out and bought it as is , it all went downhill for me 😄

I am a certified mechanic , a lot of people do not know what they are getting into by selling a car to the public, I had a really nice Cadillac STS it ran great but had rust damage on a frame rail, very hard repair so I sold it to a salvage yard, I also flip cars that need repair good money in that but I always sell them at auction or to a dealer
