Around here everybody uses a wooden pallet and chain. Yank the chain and pallet rips everything out the back of trailer.

Hi Mike and other commenters. It's a nice idea but a lot of set-up. I simply use a 4x6 by 48 inches long on its 4 inch side. I put a 1/2' or 5/8" rope around the middle of the 4x6 at the far inside corner of the trailer. I lay the rope along the middle of the trailer and let it hang under the open end of the tralier. I then load my brush and green waste and tree limbs in straight fashion in the trailer bed. I try to have some long limbs on the bottom, with the butts of the branches against the 4x6. When I have it loaded (and I get on the load a couple times to push it down tight), I pick up the rope off the ground and lay it up over the load. We are required here to tarp our loads for transport to the dump, so I tarp it. At the dump I go to the green waste area and back up fairly close to the big concrete walls in the back of the dump area. (you may have to use Mike's stake idea if no wall). I tie off to the wall, and drive off until the load falls off in a big rectangular block, then I back up against the load to loosen the rope which usually has tension against it from the pulling off of brush. I pull my rope off and under the load. Sometimes I have so much weight of the load I have to tie the 4x6 end of rope back onto the trailer and drive off to pull the rope UNDER the load to get it out. It is not problem and I love to do this in about 2 or 3 minutes while the other people around me watch as they unload their loads one stick or branch at a time. I've had my 5x8 trailer for 25 years and it has done many many loads for me, some as big as 12 or 14 ft long and weighing 2 tons. As Ralph Kinslow my tree mentor taught me years ago, "Hey John, you can legally load your trailer up to 14 ft tall!" I usually don't go more than 8 or 9 ft tall... getting older now :) :)

Hi there.I used this design for my trailer.I made 2 modifications which seem to work well.Firstly I bent a straight piece of steel into a horse shoe shape and this slips over the wooden panel and holds it to the trailer.When you unload the trailer you just lift it off rather than unbolting it.Secondly I use a star picket to attach the chain to.This is driven into the ground with a sledge hammer.The advantage of this is that you can remove the picket easily with a custom picket lifter which saves a lot of effort.

As to the horseshoes I would just use some old rebar in a J shape. If you forget to take it off its no big deal the rebar just falls off. By star picket do you mean T-Post? If so that is a great idea. I do the same thing. I have a picket ponder and a picket with the bottom made into a point. I always meant to buy one of those special picket pullers but I always just end up using my high lift jack with a small chain.

@@stepsidelandscapinglawnsol3093 Two old tires side by side laying at front of trailer. Connected with a loop of chain, a proper size long bolt connecting the chain ends. Then a long chain bolted to the cross chain in between the two tires. Chain lays in center of floor to back end. I can pull a load of brush off using another vehicle or tractor by tying to chain end at back. Or can connect the chain to something solid like big tree or post then pull trailer forward to pull off load.

I did the same thing with a 4×8×4 enclosed trailer I made for lawn vacuum. Just I made my front pusher at a 45 degree angle towards the back, and made it stop with angle iron so it won't come out of box. Got the design from a old shuck wagon they use to use when shelling corn...

Nice work. Long video tho. I have three things to that may help you out. First. Put an extra nut on the bolt that holds it up to the front wall. Sandwich the wood with it. So you don't have to worry about the bolt falling off. Or basically you should have just not cut off the Eye bolts. Second. Make the frame out of metal. eventually the wood is going to give way or break. You don't want that to happen with the trailer loaded. Third. You should add a winch and pulley system.

LOL. My apologies. I didn't mean to say that it need to be sorter or that it was "too" long. I just said it was long. It wasn't that you could have shortened it because it could have been explained in two minutes and is very simple, i just think you should have shown a bit more of the actions involved. Let's be honest. The people who say it was "too" long because it is such a simple thing, well then they can explain to the others when they ask the question like, "how did you get the chain under it". LOL. I hope that makes sense. Oh and I forgot to mention your gate. I did this for my friends trailer. We closed the gate and welded some pipe/tubing of the same size as the hinges to the sides of the gate and the side wall. Then we made some pins the same size as the pins of the hinges but with a smaller pin welded to one end making a T. Made it easy to take out pins. Then we cut out the original pins.This made hinges on both sides and the bottom pins can now be removed. Four pins total. When he goes to dump he just removes the bottom pins and pulls the pin from one side and puts in on the other side and that lets the drop down gate become a swing open door.

We finally got around to clearing and I decided to weld up a pull off sled. I wasn't gonna unload by hand 6 loads in such short period of time. I'll post a vid soon.

I use a large bull rope around the middle and or belly of my 16x6x3 trailer. Don't need a plunger stile of system and I cut everything down with a chain saw to compact the load. It comes out like a big brick. 😂 if you like what I've shared be welcome to use it.

I know there are several places in Phoenix that sell trailers. Many are resellers and some make their own. You'll just have to call around or go visit them. Mine was from APC Trailers in Tucson about 10 years ago.

I use a setup very similar to this for my leaf trailer. For branches, I lay a heavy duty ratchet strap down prior to loading and then just hook on to that to pull out the whole bundle. Mods: Big wing nut instead of hex nut at front of trailer Instead of having even lengths of chain to the top and bottom of the board (or plunger as I call it) I made the bottom lengths shorter. I had the plunger slide up and over the load twice and needed more tension at the bottom.

I wonder how well it would work for like a 3 or 4 thousand pound load. i'm thinking of making somehting similar to your wood back puller dealybobber but making it out of steel and using a 12,000lb winch and some pulleys underneath the trailer to drag it out instead of using the stake.

Or.. you get a wood chipper and you use those branches to put life back into your piece of land.. It's sad that no one has compost piles anymore these days, they spend money to buy soil from the store, then they pay the dump to take their cuttings and leaves, and grass trimmings.. so it gets turned into soil by some other company, and sold back to you as bumper crop.. You get it coming and going. >.< city people.

You are correct. I upgraded to a heavier stake to handle heavier loads. I use an old axle. I filed the tip to a point and pound on the hub side.

The trailer came with the sides. I bought it new like that. They are steel. Occasionally the chain can get stuck but usually not. You can hook it to your trailer and pull it out when it does.

If you have the means to fix the ramp I'd just throw the chain over and drag the hole load off with the ramps down. It'd be rough on it but with a few skid plates and sturdy hinges it should be fine. Solid idea though. Sure beats the "drive 50 in reverse and slam on the brakes" move. Lol

I used both a bench grinder and an angle grinder to make the point on the axle. It's only about 30 inches long. It depends on the soil and the load weight as to how far I pound it in the ground. Sometimes it pulls out and I have to retry.

The one in the video was not very strong. I suggest at least a 1-inch thick, solid rod. Old car axles can be grinded to a point and are strong.

I have one of those stations here in my town. I carry extra chain and ask the guys next to me if i can run the chain between them and hook on to the middle. pulls out easy. I always offer to help them unload in exchange. Only one person has ever refused. I help them out until i get run off by the employees. Since then I have seen other people doing it.

im going to use this idea but use a winch and steal plate on the front insead of wood and have the plate ride on a track on the trailer sides using i beams and bearings and have the plate slide on the trailer deck and have the witch pull it. i haul alot of dirt but dont have $7,000 for a dump trailer

Too complicated. All you need is two long tow straps. Lay one down lengthwise along the middle of the trailer floor. Load up your brush and logs, throw the remaining length of the first strap over the top of the brush pile towards the back gate. Make sure to keep it in the middle. Then run your second tow strap through both ends of the first strap in the back of the trailer, and then attach the second tow strap to your ancho point, open the gate, and drive forward. Done. It helps to have some longer branches horizontally across the width of the trailer towards the front, on the bottom. That way, they act as your little plywood contraption does.

I just use a beefy length of rope with a loop tied at one end. Lay the rope in the bottom of the trailer with the loop towards the trailer tongue. Lay a bunch of branches in across the trailer width. Then pile the rest length-wise to the trailer. Don't detach but lower the tailgate at the landfill and tie off to something strong (like the stake here; at my landfill there are concrete blocks with rebar loops to use). Run the tailgate end of the rope through the loop you made at the tongue before you tie off. Pull your vehicle and trailer away and you're unloaded. I've used this method dozens of times with no problem.

Looong video... I hang a strap loosely about 1/3 from the front of the trailer, put everything on top, then loop it like a noose and tie to solid object (logs, compactor, girlfriends car) at landfill and drive forward. My trailer tips so it makes it easier.

this method of unloading for small trucks was used too many years ago for cardboard recyclers, but instead of using a wood board they were using something like a fishing net on the floor, just drive and all cardboard is out the vehicle.

Two things. He said that he loads the trailer over a period of time and he puts branches first so if it gets wet it doesn't stick. How is cardboard gonna hold up to water and time, NOPE NO GOOD. I would like to know if a pounded stake would work for my application... i frequently unload a 6x10x6 trailer full of mulched leaves, probably 3000 pounds. How would the ground stake handle this weight, would the truck pull the stake out of the ground sending the chain flying thru the air? How far should i pound the stake into the ground?

You definitely will need a heavier stake. After this video was made I started using an old axle. I filed down the end to create a point. The hub end act as a good pounding surface for a sledgehammer.

Everything you ask is all dependent on the trailer you want to use and what you plan to put into it. The larger the trailer, or the heavier the materia you load means the stronger and more heavy duty you need to construct it. It's all variable.

Haha. That's funny. To answer your question, I've never had a full trailer of grass clippings so I don't know, but my guess is yes, it would work. Grass tends to get compacted and clump together...so it seems like it would work. Good luck.

@@mikefrench3449 Usually you're dealing with a dirt surface which is slippery. Everything is going to slide. Even with my method the tires on a 2WD vehicle can spin depending on the load. Lots of factors in play.

@@mikethedesertrat sorry some of the guys shared in an ugly way. Nobody made them watch. Of course with any way to do something, there are other ways to do it. But for me, you gave me ideas, and so did others, so what you did worked. I produce videos. To do good ones and to be to the point requires more upfront planning and work... and editing once filmed. But a selfie style video is basically thinking on your feet, which is what you did. Being repetitive can be a good learning tool, but as you could see - too much takes away. But Thank You for sharing.
