Awesome techniques. I’m making box nets at present and 1/74 scale buildings for a diorama. Rattle can spray painting? I cut my teeth on that back in 2008. Preparation is the most important step before the final coat. I’ve just finished four alloy wheels for my Honda. Everything is possible with a little practise and patience. Your videos give basic but important lessons in order to accomplish most tasks through the application of knowledge. Thank you!

Was looking to make a cosplay prop and I was considering a foam core substructure, covered with craft foam and finished with a latex coating. After seeing this video I now know it can be done, thanks for sharing, especially the tips about which types of glue to use.

Very glad to have found your channel and this video. Very understandable and I like the way you explain your thinking process rather than just saying what you are doing. It’s good to see a guy whose cutting mat looks like it’s been used! I find your voice very relaxing to which is a bonus! Would you tell me the brand of contact adhesive you used and which Gorilla glue you used to anchor the skin to the base please. Thank you.

To make the speaker grill look even more authentic: 3d print a pair of dies to sandwich the screen in to form the rounded the edge

Hey Eric, really great video! Watching you soak the foamcore to remove the paper made me want to share a tip with you. If you are in North America you can buy a brand of foamcore called Readi-Borad by RL Adams. It’s designed to have easy peal paper. Comes off very easy, no soaking needed. Best part is you don’t need to order it from a specialty supplier. It’s stocked at Dollar Tree for $1 a sheet. Super convenient, I use it all the time Maybe you are already familiar with this, if so I’d love to hear your thoughts on why you don’t utilize it. Cheers

Yup, the cheap stuff comes of really easy. Thanks for the comment and support, much appreciated, cheers!
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial 4 жыл бұрын
For anyone else reading, not all cheap stuff. It’s just this brand specifically that is designed to be peeled. The paper is just there to protect the foam until used. So be careful with other cheap brands, it’s just that one specifically.

Nice construction method with the eva foam lofting over a solid base, but man that seam and the foam pores are distracting. Maybe smooth it all out with some caulking and/or wood glue before paint?

How may different glues can Eric feature in one video? ;-) Sure seems like hot glue was your go to choice in this one. Perhaps your views on it are softening?
@EricStrebel

I guess I did not realize how many different glues I used on this project Tony Audi, thanks for noticing and pointing that out to the viewers, the right adhesive for the task is key sometimes, nope still hate hot glue :-)

Honestly, I hand made models once ... now I'm always 3D-printing. Off course that puts some limits on my creative thinking, which not necessarily is a bad thing. I love how 3D lets me play a lot, before committing. Anyway, I should do more compound stuff.

I feel you it takes so much time to sand those foam models and using bondo to fill the wholes was super annoying to deal with.
@EricStrebel
@EricStrebel 4 жыл бұрын
3D printing to early in the process is definitely limiting your creativity, you are also loosing the tactile feedback and hands on time that you get from building a model.
@BrianBoniMakes

I'm 3D printing models too but you still have to block and sand and finish if you want it to look like anything but a 3D print. I even used some 3D prints as a mold for vacuum forming ABS and on some of them the steps were showing through and I had to put time into finishing the molds before forming another batch.

hi can you do scroll work in foamcore? i’m trying to cut foam in the shape of a guitar, but i keep getting flat edges on my curves, and undercuts with my exactoknife. any suggestions ?
@EricStrebel
@EricStrebel 2 жыл бұрын
The material can be laser cut, it smells and melts the foam, but it can be cut that way, yes you could cut it with a scroll saw or even a key hole saw. Probably would not look nice however.

I didn't realize that Duplicolor is better than Rustoleum or Krylon. What are the differences?
@KenN.OXN.805
@KenN.OXN.805 Жыл бұрын
I looked at the duplicolor link you have on Amazon. I don’t see any foam safe statement. Does it work in foam because you use very light spraying? I know krylon has foam safe varieties. What don’t you like about krylon?
