I can understand the attraction of GIFT city and advantages to the govt. But the priority for govt should be to liberalise the usual NRE/NRO and demat accounts for NRI in ordinary banks- that’s where the majority of NRI money is invested, not in some glorified GIFT city. Another area is UPI- govt should make it easier for NRI. In fact I don’t understand why there are so many different bank accounts. Once the money is converted to rupees, it shouldn’t make any difference if the holder is NRI or Indian resident.

Sir 1 Very enlightening post. Should we take it as a future vision statement or already specific products for NRI available. 2 What about infrastructure? How it is connected to Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar? Road/ Rail/ Air. 3 As you know, NRI are miserable already with Indian Banks, dividends from corporates, interests from financial institutions and frozen parent accounts in the name of Re-KYCs, lakhs of crores ending up with RBI and distributing in the name of dividends to Central Government.There is no effort to hand it over to rightful owners but used as a tool to harass them. 4 Better NRI youngsters to keep it in where ever they live rather than to "Swaha". Can you guarantee the Gift City database is not spared to scamsters? Already we are suffering from Bajaj Finance Overdraft to Kotak Bank Insurance to digital arrest from Vietnam. 5 GIFT city is meant for people who are well connected to Governments across the Globe.

NRIs who do not plan to go back to settle in India need not choose GIFT city. Indian government can change laws anytime to the detriment of investors. NRI dividend income & short-term gains are taxed differently from residents now so it is obvious that there is no love for NRIs as portrayed in this video.

Watched this video with interest and following questions come up in my mind :- - I have funds in NRE a/c with a local Indian bank. Can I invest from such an a/c and how currency conversion is treated ? - are there any Tax liabilities to Indian Tax office ? Any gains earned need to be reported to which Tax Authorities?

I am a NRI and I would NEVER invest in India. The rules are sooo convoluted! Tell me one good reason why I should pay GST when I am repatriating money from India. I mean what service I am getting in return. On top of it TDS on the capital gains on sale of property is nearly 24%, so many type of paperwork, no senior citizen benefits in NRE accounts…the list goes on. Let India thrive, but Jai Ramji Ki. I have better places to invest my money in the world.

it has become VERY PREVELANT lately. It seems that success has gone thru their heads. I am struggling with one of the reputable banks where I have a DEMAT account. Instead of addressing my issue, they want me to bring in MORE money into their bank.

Hi Doc., Thanks for this video. A couple of questions, pls. If I have just one account in one of the Banks in Gift City can that substitute my NRO & NRE account? | Can I have my Indian income deposited into that one a/c in Gift City without going through 15CA/CB for repatriation?

Banking and financial investments tracking and management are still rudimentary in India. It's too risky for anyone living abroad to confidently invest in India unleass they have someone living in India who can manage their investments. Moreover, the trust factor in the finance minister is shaky at best. The other option is to have a trusted investment agent/agency and tax consultant in India who can take care of your investments. Otherwise, it's suicidal.

@shaileshparikh69207 күн бұрын
I believe [think] he can..... Have him write a check, deposit into your NRO account. This becomes a vehicle to transfer into a gift city bank account. Most people declare as an inheritance. Be advised that income tax authority may question [depending on amount] the source of money.

@@NRIMoneyClinic Respected Sir I used the word "Seems' meaning its my opinion. Opinions need not be substantiated rather theyre based out of reality in India(read Adani saga unfolding before us and this is in Gujrat). Upon that no need for any identity proof. Enough boss what else needed to assume. However eagerly awaiting for your future videos to bust the myth that how illegal money wont be entertained into GIFT City. Myth because look at the comment section so many are posting similar views. So instead of calling these as allegations please respect the viewers first hand feedback.
