What about naval patrol planes, do you use them, are they useful?

As in the medium frame ones? They are good for range but very expensive if you encounter ship AA. You will lose the same number of nav bombers or naval patrols against heavy AA, so your IC loss will be bigger. Still, for Japan it could make sense because the sea zones are so huge. They are great against subs

A carrier fleet? You mean specifically for Japan or? There are some differences between countries as you get different modifiers. The basics are 4 carriers with maximum deck space with at least 4 good light cruisers or destroyers for each carrier you have in the task force. As Japan you can overcrowd your carriers by up to 45% if I'm not mistaken due to the increased sortie efficiency you have. It also makes sense to have carriers with fighters only as you can overcrowd them more when you get certain admiral traits. You can put other planes on separate carriers. Hope it helps!

@@abusiveplaguedoctor above 100% sortie efficiency it does nothing. Sortie efficiency is lowered by bad weather and overcrowding, sooo you can get away with overcrowding your planes on carriers up to a certain extent.

Would dive brakes on the naval bombers be more effective than an extra armour plate?

If I'm not mistaken, the game doesn't allow you to put dive breaks on nav bombers. You could make the plane a CAS and probably use it but then all the bonuses for nav bombers won't be available to you.

@@balkan-cowboy Yes. But if you take the triple AP bombs, you can get dive brakes and get more naval targeting than with torps. And more damage. IIRC. Dive brakes give a naval targeting bonus.

Air defense not working against ship based AA makes no sense, of there was a Ground Defense stat then i could understand maybe

I suppose big AA batteries could crush any plane no matter how well armored it is, but it would be good to have something that gives extra defense.

Are kamikazes worth it? I swore i remember hearing that they are garbage.

You lose a lot of planes but they do a lot of damage to ships, which are more expensive. Also they can attack the convoys of an invasion force.
