You may not believe it yet... but the mental side of the game is just as important as raw skills or athleticism. You can't have one without the other. And if you're able to make these mindset shifts, your game and life will change forever!

Hey man, I got a issue I’ve been meaning to work on. I’m a person who’s played a little bit of basketball in his lifetime. I played open gym and was really hit or miss. I went out for the team as a 6’3 Junior who’s never played basketball ever. Rolled my ankle during a practice after already missing two of them and got cut after to many players on the team. I KNOW I have potential. The problem, I go to school for the number 8 ranked team in IL., with a 6’8 Center and a insanely staked team. I’ve got a friend who also loves basketball so we play sometimes in school. But I HAVE to have way more practice and experience to have any decent shit if j just getting minutes. Inter murals are coming up for BB, and I did good last year. I’m gonna play look for my big flaws and come back with some stuff I need help with. Please man, I’m new to this but I know I can do -thanks Any Means BB

Just prayed for you brotha, just remember that at the end of the day it's just a game so it doesn't actually matter so no need to stress it and also remember all the hours you've put in behind the scenes working and studying the game that will allow you to be confident, the fact you know you've been in the work! Good luck

Tips mentioned: *1. Play to Win, not to NOT Lose* - 1:10 - Enough of the "don't screw up", "what if I miss?", "try not to lose it", get into the "Go knock it down and win the game" mindset. *2. Set Small Goals* - 2:34 - Smaller goals can sometimes translate to better results. *3. Nerves vs. Excitement* - 3:44 - Ask yourself, are you nervous or excited? Instead of thinking before a big game/tryout/practice event, "I am nervous", redirect your mindset towards excitement with "I am excited and these feelings are natural and just me getting ready for war". *4. Technique vs. Outcome* - 4:38 - Have you ever observed your body (wrists, ankles, legs, etc) in order to see if your technique is right? Well, this is proven to decrease performance; instead, focus on outcome/the tasks you need to execute. *5. Tough Buckets vs. Efficiency* - 5:50 - Pretty self explanatory. Look for the best options, whether an open shot or a pass to an open teammate, or maybe something more strategic. Whatever it is, aim for efficiency rather than taking on a 1v4 in the rim, and eventually you will get into the zone and be able to hit tough buckets. *6. Seeing people vs. Seeing space* - 6:35 - Seeing space is better! Here is an analogy to prove this mindset useful; if you have skied or seen a skiing video on KZbin, you can likely tell that the skiers aren't focusing on the trees/obstacles but instead the white space in between (where they should be going through). Use this mindset for basketball; focus on the space around the defender and around you, not just the defender. However, observing the defenders body/eyes/momentum is never a bad thing. *7. Going 110% vs. Playing Calm* - 7:20 - Have you ever tried so hard in basketball that you started to tunnel vision and play too quick to the point where you were hectic? It is very common and not good as you have no control over yourself. Instead, play at around 90-95%; Gold medal olympian runners even say that they do better when they go at this %. *8 - Basketball isn't your life* - 8:30 - This fact can be hard to accept for some people, but the point is that when you put your entire life into a sport, your emotions fluctuate (if you win, you are happy, but if you lose, you are unhappy). What I would remember is that know there is other things in life to enjoy.

Overthinking very shot goes along with perfectionism in the mechanic and constant changes to get the "perfect mechanic"... Understanding the importance of being automatic with a shot form and only changing 1 thing at a time (on summer) is key 🔐
