Ferns are truly fun to photograph. Mom has many ferns around her house and they vary in size shape and colour. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and imagination.

Love your ideas and photography, Kim. But I gotta' say, you really should narrate children books or read poetry because your voice is so soothing and comforting.

This is such a deep video that no other photographer has touched on I find myself wondering about things when in nature and if they would also make nice pastel artwork. Some people with imagination have created all music and movies and it's helpful the way you show people how to use it better

Ferns for me evoke the primordial world. The world of the Dinosaur. They have lived for millions of years before us. In a world that strives for instant gratification the fern to me symbolises strength and conviction. If we can’t imagine a better world how can we ever make possible make one. I believe everybody has some level of imagination but for some it lies dormant and just needs something to spark it.

So true. There origins go back nearly 300 million years, long before the Dinosaurs. Even some species alive today go back millions of years. The American Oak Fern (Onoclear) goes back 45-50 million years whereas Lophosoria quadripinnata goes back 160 million years, unchanged. Yet many species are currently going through speciations events today. The Dryopteris affinis group being a good example. As you might have guessed, I’m rather keen on them with some 3-400 in my collection.

Beautiful shots of the ferns - Dryopteris filix-mas, the Common Male Fern. I find it strange that so few photographers take advantage of ferns as a subject. Me included, but my excuse is that, as a fern grower and enthusiast, my fern photos are more for recording purposes. I find it difficult to get out of that mind frame when in their presence.

Very inspirational words. At first I was getting bored by the talking and poetry (sorry), but still I made efforts to remember what you were saying about imagination, and as the photo gallery was shown, ideas started popping up. Looking at those leaves that, shot under a certain angle, can be seen like stair steps reaching for the sky. Or perhaps shooting a particular leaf by showing only half of it, that would make for a more dramatic shot in my mind. Imagining the symmetry of the other half. Need to wait for the weather to get cooler to be able to go out shooting comfortably where I am. Many thanks!

Macro can take some practice, especially the focusing. The easiest way to begin is by choosing static subjects, using a tripod, and manual focusing. Hope it helps. Wishing you all the best with it 😊

I feel that how you tell the story of photography from the creative mind/spirit perspective is more helpful than a focus on the technical aspects of photography alone. Thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us. You connect with both the left and right side of my brain and especially with my spirit. Cheers to the journey forward 🙏❤️ P.S. Eagerly awaiting my copy of your book 📕 👍
