Wow, David Pawson's interpretation of Judges and Ruth is truly fascinating! 🤓 Exploring these two books side by side really emphasizes the theme of redemption and God's purpose for His people. And I love that idea of the four levels of studying history, particularly how it links to God’s overarching plan and how history is HIS-story. It's especially interesting to consider how God used “weak” characters to accomplish His goals-a reminder that no matter our flaws or limitations, we can still serve a higher purpose.

A beautiful poem, yes, though the idea that the young Philistine was sympathetic towards Samson is not biblical. I find the story emotional enough without the need for poetry. Every time I read the story of Samson I am in tears. It is one of the most deeply moving parts of the whole Bible. How glorious to think that one day I will meet this legendary man in the flesh!

In Amharic (Ethiopian language) the book of judges is named "መጽሀፈ መሳፍንት" it could be translated as the book of tribe leaders.

Absolutely wonderful sermon. (This is my second time watching this series.) My only minor point of disagreement is the idea that Judges and Ruth are really one book. That is an interesting way of looking at it, but I don't see any clear historical evidence behind that, and I genuinely think the two books are very different and very separate. Another minor note is that Mr Pawson seems to jump on the bandwagon of making disparaging remarks about Lot, suggesting that Lot deliberately moved into an evil culture and became corrupted by it. Lot was a completely righteous man. He moved to Sodom because he liked the natural beauty of the area, but regarding its evil culture, Lot DESPAIRED of their wickedness, just as I despair of the wickedness of the British culture I live in. There is evil in every place, wherever we may live, but that does not make the saints any less holy. As well as disparaging righteous Lot, many Christians also disparage Samson, calling him "sinful" or even "wicked". How disgraceful! Samson was a hero, a holy man who defeated God's enemies, led by the Spirit of God every step of the way. He lived a hero and died a hero. Many Christians accuse Samson of "sinning" because he took himself a Gentile bride. But in fact that's something the Bible celebrates, for example in the book of Ruth. Christians also accuse Samson of "sinning" because he was drawn to his wife's beauty. But in fact the Bible places great importance on beauty (as Mr Pawson rightly points out here). The whole of the Song of Songs is a celebration of a man's attraction to his Shulamite lover (who was most likely a Gentile).

One thing I learned from Lot is that he deliberately chose for himself the better part of the land, instead of giving it to Abraham. Lot was given a chance to sacrifice his desire and prioritize his own family, but he chose to take all that is good for himself. It's not super evil or something, it's just not the right answer for this type of situation. As I read the Bible, it is true that Lot still had some righteouness in him, but that doesn't mean he was flawless. The fact that his daughters and his wife was saved from the great catasthrope doesn't mean they were righteous. Well..., but there is one thing I'm sure of, Lord was merciful to them, that's why they were saved. Samson on the other hand, he married a gentile (marrying to a person outside of God's family is forbidden and only brings trouble), he went to a prostitue (surely a christian is not allowed to let him/herself to fall to his/her own desire), and Samson told Delilah his sacred secret, a secret that was very crucial in his role as God's instrument. Samson knew God, but I think he was not close to God. Not only that, he prayed to God for the last time only to get his revenge to the Philistines. That wasn't very christian, I think... I do not know how Samson really lived those days, he might be more christian that I think. At least from the Samson that was potrayed here, we can learn where he failed, and rely more to the power of God. That's the most important.

17:05 "Samson was brought up a Nazarene," Dr. Pawson says. Samson was brought up a *nazarite,* not a Nazarene. A Nazarene is a native of Nazareth. Samson was not from Nazareth; he was from Zorah. A nazarite is one who voluntarily took a vow described in Numbers 6:1-21. "Nazarite" comes from the Hebrew word נזיר nazir meaning "consecrated" or "separated".

6:43 David Pawson mentions that the Book of Judges and the Book of Ruth were one book and still are in Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), which is NOT the case. The Book of Judges belongs to Neviim (The Latter Prophets, the second part of Tanakh) and the Book of Ruth belongs to Ketuvim (Writings, the third part of Tanakh).

Great talk but real blunder at 24:25. I dont know this dear mans personal beliefs or what he meant by this statement, but God has not given the land of Israel to the Jews. The promised land is heaven. Abrahams seed is the humanity of faithful. This idea that we need to protect the Jews because God lronised then Israel ..ugh. Such a huge misunderstanding.

I dont think so - what does Gods word say ? - does Deuteronomy 1:8 not say "go and process the land I have given you" ? Was that not God speaking to the descendants of Abraham ? The promise land for Christians is not Heaven - but the New Earth prepared for the bride ......... the dwelling place of God will be with Man on the New Earth Revelation 21:1-5 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. Where is Yael on this list who Deborah profetised about? Shes the one who killed Sisera. She was not Isrelian but Arameic and thats very interesting, why did she decode to kill him? She also invited him into her tent even though she was married. Lured him to sleep and then killed him. Im a bit amazed he doesnt bring this up. Shes also the only woman in the bible that kills a man.

There is a lot more told about Jephthah than that he is Head of Gilead not least the fact that we are told that he killed his own daughter, because he vowed to sacrifice the first creature he saw if he returned home victorious. It feels like Pawson is leaving out the bits of the Bible he finds unpalatable (Judges 11:31-40)

David does not intend to cover every verse. His intention is to help to unlock the Bible so we can read it and understand it. He has other sermons available where he deals with every verse.In my experience he covers every part of the Bible. That's what I like about his teaching.
