The deraileur seems protrude outward a lot. How does it affect folding the bike completely ? If possible, would you show us in a short video ?

Halo om, salam kenal. saya adanya sepeda Kreuz eksternal 10 speed sproket 11-36t, chainring depan pake 50t. RD dan shifter pake Shimano Zee, pake semacam penahan rantai biar pas dilipat rantainya ga kendor. Apakah bisa saya pake RD ini? Atau mungkin RD Shimano saya dimodif dengan dipasang cage punya RD ini?

i used the custom hub from lokal shop in taiwan, the hub also has angle drill like the original one, try to get the angle drill because the hub wide 150mm is big enough to bend the spoke

I've tried it several times, it turns out it's not as good as expectations, there are several obstacles, 1. The range is limited because the tire size is only 16, maybe the maximum can be used only in the 400% range, 2 displacements are still not as accurate as the DI2 system. 3 yes, if we use a large range, it will hit the asphalt when turning :D

Looking at all the comments on this video, I think I am the only one who actually rides their Brompton for real, everyday riding, shopping, commuting and touring. It is so easy to get swept up by making changes such as these which in reality don't bring any benefit as they are so impractical, affect the folding and amenity of the Brompton. I tour and travel a lot on my Brompton carrying all my gear and the best set up is just fitting a 39T front chain ring to the 6spd bike. Maybe fit a double front chain set to allow say a 30T granny front chain ring but even this is too much effort and cost imho. Yes a Rohloff hub would be nice, I have 3 bikes with Rohloff hubs, but on a Brompton it's not really justifiable as it increases the weight of the bike significantly over the std 6spd.

I ride a stock 44T 6 speed Brompton daily. Your 39T setup is quite interesting. Bought a dirt cheap run down single speed as well and are planning to rebuild it as a 2 speed, possibly 3 speed to keep it light. Sturmey Archer hub is close to a kilo and no option.

@@MartininitraM The only gear option I am interested in on a Brompton is a 6 spd. Fixed gear, single speed, 2spd, 3spd, don't interest me. They do not make the Brompton as versatile as it can be, a multi use bicycle. As I say I use my Brompton for all sorts of riding. 6 gears that you can use ALL the gears is essential. I think I have the best set up for the lowest cost and still retain the fabulous characteristics of the Brompton as it was designed.

All very well flicking through the gears like you do with your bike half folded in your home, BUT out on the road/trails this set up would soon reveal itself as impractical. The rear derailleur is far too close to the ground so it and the chain would at the very least get covered in dust, grit, mud, dirty water when raining, grass, vegetation, debris but more seriously easily exposed to damage striking stones or rocks, so totally impractical imho. Maybe ok if you ride only in a city with super smooth clean bike lanes such as in Taipei which is a great city by the way. I have ridden in Taipei and in the central mountains of Taiwan and down the Taroko Gorge. It was a fantastic tour, but I would not like to ride this gear set up of Brompton as the transmission would get very dirty very quickly and possibly damaged and broken. End of ride, end of tour. I climbed many steep mountains in Gran Canaria on my Brompton with 39T front chain ring and std BWR hub gearing of the 6 spd bike. How large is the front chain ring on your bike? The rear derailleur looks like it could be VERY close to the ground risking damage, but also collecting al lot of crud and debris. The front chainset, derailleur and the 9spd cassette must add a lot of weight? Plus all the problems of keeping it clean and working fine. I think the best solution is the 6 spd Brompton, 3sp BWR internal hub gear with 2 sprockets for high and low ratio, with a 39T front chain ring on the Brompton crankset. It is the smallest chain ring you can fit on it, maybe 38T but it would be very close with the chain. Fitting a 39T front chain ring is the simplest thing to do, cheap and keeps the Brompton pretty much std spec. Also you don't have problems with ground clearance with a derailleur as the rear transmission is unchanged. It also means you get a good range of gears and you can use all the gears especially when loaded with luggage and climbing hills as you have a really low granny gear and going down hill it doesn't matter that you spin out as you are travelling at 28+mph by then. On the flat you spin out in top at about 24-25mph so you get to use all the gears and the set up is still pretty much standard OE except the front 39T chain ring. You could fit a smaller chain ring say 34T but you would need a new crank/spider perhaps with smaller BCD. For me one of the attractions of the Brompton is the simplicity with the internal hub gear rear hub getting away from traditional derailleurs as they are fragile and high maintenance, PITA. I know the 6 spd has 2 rear sprockets and a derailleur to change but I live with this as it is simple and seldom goes wrong, is robust and easy to maintain. Sorry but yours on the other hand looks like it would be a nightmare. Still really good effort, but it isn't really very practical. The disc brakes are a very good up grade although Brompton rim brakes are ok. Thanks for sharing.

@@denielnoya the Alfine 11 is more than suffice for all practical purposes in terms of gear range. A 20T cog will give you a 10-41T gear stack.

The arm is indeed very near to the ground. It is because 34-11=23, if you change it to 28-11=17 then it won't be that bad. As compared to Brompton 3x2=6 speeds, 9 speed is more than enough. The cassette system is lighter than the Strummy Archer Hub. I would keep it as 5-6 speeds make it even lighter. Brompton 3x2 speed range is 100/33=3 which is the same as ~34/11=3. If change to 28/11 =2.55, then it is 15% less.

I could easily manage with a disc brake only in front, as my back wheel is able to be blocked at all time, so why the problems with the change? My crank is changed to titanium with ceramic balls and I like the folding pedal, so I have kept it standard. I would most likely stay with a simple 7 speed set. Finn. Denmark
