Could you imagine how many killers would be around if abuse made people into killers? And how many killers would be free if that was excusable as a defense? If anything, people that know what abuse does to a child resolve to never abuse their own children. I'm glad you're well-adjusted enough to understand this. I wish the best of luck to you and your children.

I don’t believe in hitting either. My parents were somewhat neglectful (by neglectful I mean, I was a latchkey kid in the 70s and my parents were never around) and alcoholics but luckily they never hit us. I think my mom backhanded me once when I was 13 because I told her to shut up but we were never beat like a lot of people are and I didn’t pass that down to my children either. Thank god

That’s not how reality works though. That’s like an abusive parent saying, “it’s not my fault my son turned into a monster.” There’s never a _good_ reason for abusing someone else (or yourself), but reasons for abuse exist (such as growing up beings abused).

Exactly. Precisely why I feel having children should be regulated. It’s an unpopular opinion, but I chose to never become pregnant because I couldn’t fathom passing on my medical issues onto an innocent child. So a mother goes to cops and tells them how her son writes about preserving heads, and a crime comes up involving a preserved head, and no one puts two and two together? Come on

Let's say that he was abused by his mom...he still extinguished an innocent human's life. He doesn't deserve to walk free. It's such a pathetic reach from a defense team that knows they are on the losing side.

19:10-19:18 What kind of damn parade is that? 19:50-20:00 It is strange how so many people feel attracted to weird characters. In most of the cases, there is something darker lurkind behind their antics. That is not the first case. 39:30-39:36 A round of applaude to Judge Suzanne Cohen. I hope the sentence will continue unchanged till the day Miller is dispatched. "I killed because my mother abused me" is sheer nonsense. The girls he killed had nothing to do with his being abused, and didn't have to pay for the miseries he suffered. The whole thing is summarised by one of the best comments in the thread Quote Could you imagine how many killers would be around if abuse made people into killers? And how many killers would be free if that was excusable as a defense? If anything, people that know what abuse does to a child resolve to never abuse their own children."

The consequences of his actions are what they are, nothing can change that. But I really appreciate that he apologised and admitted that he was different and did terrible things. I know that with a mental illness a person is many times not able to control their actions. I think that was his case. It is all very, very sad ..... Thank you, 48 hrs and Mr Van Sant.

I used to walk my dogs at 11pm, anywhere to 3am because I was afraid they would get skunked in the backyard. The only thing I was afraid of running into were coyotes, a rabid fox or racoon and getting too close to skunks. Although I live in Chicago it's a very safe area... well, it was but in the last few years it's been getting worse and worse. Car jacking, break-in, shootings etc Wherever you live, no matter how safe you think it is please don't go out alone, keep alert and let your loved ones have the tracking on your phone.

This goes with the saying, not every method could work on a child. My teacher and mother used to hit me when my grades were bad. It just made me wanna prove them otherwise. But then again, I think majority of most developed brains are those without trauma. It's sad he used his mother as an excuse nevertheless. The lack of empathy towards his single young mother.. So important to teach empathy at young age..
