Uno Synth Pro desktop: bad gear or most underrated synth? review & jam

Back with fresh gear from Italy. Here I show why the Uno Synth Pro desktop definitely is not bad gear if USB power problems are avoided. Hope you enjoy my little review and the subsequent demo jams!

hey pete i bought this synth yesterday and im having problems with it it sounds great on headphones but the line outs sound distorted and theres always a clicking sound with the sound unless i turn the release nearly off im using a samsung plug with the correct voltage and amp and the orginal kabel it also leaks notes how can this beautiful keyboard have so many issues ?

I bought the Uno Pro desktop because of your video and I love it. Thank you. Problem is, when I plug other hardware into it, like Model Cycles or Korg NTS-1, the volume and depth on the Uno synth drops rapidly. A standard USB wall charger and just the UNO sounds wonderful, but not when I plug an external synth into it. I use midi out of external synth to midi in of Uno. I'm wondering if the power supply is the problem. If anyone could help please. Thanks.

My Polyend Medusa takes a while calibrating as well, all hairy synth’s do. My Roland SH 7 never quite settles down, it has a bit of old synthesizer Parkinson’s to which I can relate.

Sometimes I just play around with the step sequencer and arp mode for hours forgetting I was supposed to record something, mine only takes about 30 secs or so to calibrate I can't fathom why yours took any longer than a minute. Thanks for the video

Great review and demo from you as always. Whether it is a $50 synth or a $5000 synth, you will always get the best out of it :). For me, unless there is an extremely compelling case, I will not buy another device that uses the awful micro-USB connector. On the Uno, there should be enough space for a full size USB type B connector, and certainly a type C. I have a couple of midi controllers with micro-USB sockets, and if I move them slightly, they lose connection. How long before they fail completely?

Funny you should say that, or rather not funny. I have an original uno and one of my usb cables I think the one that came with it is very loose in the socket. I have other cables that work for powering it from a mains power supply, but not from the iPad anymore and will not allow the uno to be recognised by its editing app on my iPad. I have tried on my laptop and the original loose cable when In a certain position will work, but none of my good fitting cables, that work fine for power from mains will power it from the laptop or be recognised by the editing software.

I decided to go with the Dreadbox Typhon for my first monosynth, it would be interesting to know what you think of it. When I got it, it was significantly cheaper than the Uno Synth Pro, but that seems to have changed. I like the very small form factor, and it seems easier to get a thick sound despite having fewer oscillators.

I wonder myself about this. Which one is a better mono synth? They both sound nice. The uno has 2 filters and 3 oscillators vs typhon which has 1 filter and 2 oscillators. I think the uno has more sonic potential. But the typhon has lots of character and better build quality.

Thanks for the feedback! Most difficult question, typhon and uno pro are hard competitors. The UI of the typhon is unique, built quality is superior. The uno arpeggiator and paraphonic mode is great, the step sequencer is superior, external in is more flexible. The sound spectrum of the uno is broader, but the broad sweet spot of the typhon makes interaction with the sound/filter easier, so the instant fun factor is a bit larger 😉 On the other hand, the uno is deeper and offers more possibilities...

I don’t know if I’m the only one to experience that the headphone output is very noisy, in spite of using IK’s own powerbank? Also, I haven’t found a way to route external audio through the effects. I still haven’t got a reply from their support after 6 month. To bad, as I really think it has potential when working…

Any 5v 2amp phone charger with a quality 6' cable will work just fine. Longer, thinner cables will deliver less power.

@meneerjansen00 - Agreed. I was considering this but, like you, will take the as a warning to move on. Though Pete presents a fine demo, the fact that IK still has not addressed basic power related issues despite LOTS of complaints tells me they don't care and I don't do business with companies with that attitude. The other one that comes to mind is Artiphon Instrument 1 whose sole power source is an internal rechargeable battery that cannot be replaced. Because, you know, they're so reliable and never need to be replaced. Riiiiight.

Don’t buy! It just stopped working correctly and sounds like garbage! I got it on reverb and it was unopened. Ik multimedia will not give me any warranty on it. Worst company
