After my father had a stroke he had home care for a while but eventually needed to be in a nursing home as Alzheimer's set in , it took a year for me to tidy up his place so it could be sold to cover his fees as he never threw anything away and he had 8 acres . He's coming up on 94 in a couple of months and I turn 70 a month later , things do not get easier as you get older . You'll get it done Buckin' , you're still a young man 🙂

Been splitting wood pass week it is very relaxing. Like you say it’s a technique over muscle, I am 73 and it’s a good exercise. We live on a 1 1 /2 acreage lot that is 3/4 covered with trees mostly Oak. When fall comes we hit it a little each day one tank of gas only for the blower. Yao can rack them on a large tarp then drag the tarp we do that alot

I agree, Billy-everyone’s got their own way of doing things. This is your way. Someone might have a different idea, but this is how you’re doing it. It’ll spread out on the shore and naturally decompose-that’s what it does anyway; you’re just adding to the process. It’s better than digging a hole, burning it, and having smoke pollute the air. Kicking it out into the water lets it naturally disperse as it leaves. It’s not trash. I love the idea-I just wish I had water in my backyard so I could do the same.

I have a Stihl BR 350 backpack blower and it moves mountains. That and a pitchfork and a lighter keeps me ahead of the leaves and pine needles. Not to mention the Madrones dropping their leaves twice a year. It's a weekly thing cleaning the roof and rain gutters out. I'd love to drop the trees that surround the house but they're just too sketchy for me to get them on the ground. 100 to 140 foot pine and fir tree with a slight lean towards the house. BBR could fall these in his sleep. I'm not anywhere near that league.🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴

Hi Buckin. The carpet is a good idea. To make it easier on your back you could tie a rope to each corner, or use a tarp that has grommets to make that even easier. One thing though, it’s better to not put leaves in the water. It’s “ natural “, but they increase the oxygen demand (BOD) on the water which is not good for fish etc. Would have been better to find a spot and make compost out of them. I find that using the suck feature of my blower, with a bag, chews the leaves up fine and you get a whole lot less volume to deal with. Put that on the compost pile, and you get good soil that much quicker. Not trying to be negative, and I know you are dealing with a lot right now, just offering suggestions for improvements. I was trustee for my parent’s estate. I’ve seen that break families apart as people have different ideas of what should be done. I was able to navigate through that following your basic rules, fair, honest and work hard on it. You should be fine. Good luck!

Looks like my garden at this time of year - I am in Perthshire and it is leaves all over. I usually have a day with wife and son clearing them and into the leafmould pile, although we leave the other 2 acres to rot down. It is amazingly tiring actually, but you can feel you heart pumpin', so I guess it's good. I am 68 now, so important to keep going.
@zactillett982022 күн бұрын
I live in the woods. The easiest way to deal with alot of leaves (I've found) is rake them onto a tarp. You can drag a huge pile a long ways in one trip.

We are starting “leaf season” here at work. A couple weeks of backpack blowers, tarps and dump trailers. One place is along some cliffs of a large lake, we blow them all down the cliff face and into the lake. Some places get pushed into the woods. And lastly some have to be hauled to the city green-waste dump.

Just watched your video. Just wanted to comment on your leaf blowing to clear the ground. I live in Florida and have a lot of oak trees which produce debris constantly. Years ago I purchased a Sthil BR800 backpack blower. I used that one for many years cleaning the yard. I actually bought a newer beefier model to replace that one with. I know you like power to make jobs easier. That evident in all your badass chainsaws. You should try a big badass backmount blower. It’s amazing how much you can clear off. And it’s easier than holding a blower with the hands. I really enjoy all your videos. You’re a good man!

We wouldn't be able to put them in the water where I live; against state law. I actually like to leave the leaves until the snow is gone; many creatures stay in them during the winter months for shelter. It's a little harder to do in the Spring, but it works for me at my age and health. Great job.
@BobBlarneystone20 күн бұрын
We blow leaves into rows and then rake onto a cheap HF 12x15 tarp and then drag to the disposal area. It goes lickety split. By the way, do you ever save burls or spalted wood for woodturners? For that matter, a good winter pastime is lathework, especially if you've laid in a stock of choice turning blanks.

Funny! So I’m 53 and live with my old man who’s 80 and seen better days, but we’ve still got him. I’d always joke with him, “good luck getting rid of me, because it’s too nice!” We live on the Willamette River south of Portland. Best thing I ever purchased was the biggest baddest Stihl backpack blower. Pricey but it’ll amaze you with how much of everything it can blow effortlessly. The other thing that’s been fun/funny was years ago I was burning railroad ties in a controlled manor but at an intensity that didn’t smoke. Very hot small inferno. Incinerating half rotted creosote wood from our retaining walls. Some “good Sam “ boater decided on his one day out on the river to call the firemen on me. They asked me to put it out, which I was prepared to do from the moment it started. And out it went. Talking with the firemen, I cried how the chances of me carrying these big heavy timbers up that 50 step staircase is slim to none. They advised me to leave the pile and in a month or so after the rains, the Willamette in an act of God will take them! I scratch my head every year as I watch all the crap floats down the river.🤦🏻♂️ Btw, I had that fire restart about 6-7 times it was so hot. It took hours of nonstop water to cool those coals.

It is why I harp on about saws like the 435 saw from Husky. Which really has no earthly purpose or useful function in life, except to work as a tool for cleaning up. A level or two above a leaf blower. But for this particular job, nothing does it as well as a lightweight 435. I might go for a rear-handle 540 at some point, for this same purpose. There's a metal saw horse that gets sold, it is a bit of a joke of a thing. I discovered 'why' limbs and branches on Cedar trees are so strong and robust, . . it's because of all of the needle and twig material that Cedar tree 'branches' have to carry, . . and do so a long distance away from the main vertical stem (like exercises using dumb bell weights that you hold a distance away out straight, to build muscle in arms or legs). How does one 'deal' with the clean-up job from a Cedar branch removal? Well, that metal saw horse that was pretty useless, one can pile Cedar vegetation on it, and reduce it into piles of small material using a tool such as a 40cc saw.
@academicmailbox779822 күн бұрын
By the way, wet leaf material. A pan shovel and wheel barrow with a well pumped inflated rubber tire. Wheel barrows these days, basic, well constructed ones will set you back some (I've a galvanized Trail Noir wheel barrow I've replaced the tire on once in it's life). The galvanizing in the container or bucket part of the wheel barrow has washed away, so the steel sheet metal will rust unfortunately if I don't house the wheelbarrow). As the saying goes, amateur generals talk strategy, professionals talk logistics. And wheen it comes to leaf clean up, the pan shovel and wheel barrow (I assume in middle Canada the same equipment will function for snow clearance tool). One has to be smart about one's logistics. When it comes to branch material disposal again, that 'trick' using that 435 with a metal saw horse seems to do the job. In the past I used loper hand tools, and it would talk me longer. The Fiskar loper tools are better I found to the old style ones. Loper tools are like those 'cork bottle removal' tools, where the engineering of them can become extreme.
