I don't think he was really complaining I think he was just showing the drawbacks that you would have to deal with. I think most people wouldn't put the sigma 18-35 1.8 on a full frame but it's nice to be able to see what the results would be. He's specifically mentioned about how during during 4K recording some cameras crop in and for video I have heard time and time again this lens produces amazing results including cinema cameras. So if you have a full frame and find a used one on a good deal and are mainly focused towards video but take pictures as well you can make a better decision on weather it would be worth it to you. Another reason this is great is if you're considering buying the sigma for a crop sensor camera and are weighing options because you may one day upgrade to full frame and trying to decide if its worth it to have more drawbacks now by buying a full frame lens that sometimes isnt as ideal (higher f stop and sometimes is said to be less sharp on a crop sensor camera) or is it more ideal to go with an ideal lens for you crop now that will also work with full frame but you have to deal with some drawback. For me personally I have highly considered the Sigma 18-35 for my crop sensor but have plans to upgrade to full frame, If I knew I was going with a cannon 5D mark 4 or a sony or canon mirrorless It would probably be a really great option, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a Canon 5d mark 3 so this lens would work for all that much so a wiser choice would probably be to buy a full frame lense or purchase an efs lense like the 17-55 and just plan to resell once I make the jump to full frame. Another option I've really highly considered is the and in 24-105 f4 because of price, range, and fixed focal length so it would work for video and be a great full fram lens but I'm having a hard time deciding on weather the compromises are worth it(I wish it was a tad wider and a little better for low light but has been a strong consideration. So far I'm between the 24-105 f4 and the 17-55 2.8 I really like the sigma but I think I would take the higher f stop for a little more range.

@kirilenkoas 4 жыл бұрын
Great video guys : )) The Sigma 18-35 and the 50-100 are pretty much the only two crop sensor lenses that can give you Full Frame results. You still need to multiply the Aperture by 1.6 and get 2.88 full frame equivalent but this is basically where any full frame bright apperture zoom starts from. I used them on my 70d for years. I switched to the EOS R and got the 16-35 f2.8L II and in terms of resolution the results are almost identical. If you own a full frame camera stick to the Canon unless you will shoot 4k with a crop or enter crop mode which drastically lowers your resolution. The Sigma is a great lens and it was way ahead of its time in my opinion it could easily handle a 40MP crop body.

@brandongonzales6374
@brandongonzales6374 Жыл бұрын
Yes the 1.8 doesn’t change. The only thing he’s saying is the relative aperture at the same exact distance is higher because the crop sensor has a higher depth of field with all the settings the same. I don’t recommend anyone multiply the aperture because if you are using a super 35 sensor camera, your overall framing is going to be different. If you use a comparable lens that equals the same focal length, they will have the same exact look.

I was using a 50mm 1.2 on a used 6D Mark 1 I got for 500$ It was a loaner and I use it for my business, couldn’t deal with the kit lens. It’s just trash can. The 6D is superb in quality on its own so it helped with the Kit lens. Found a Sigma for 400$ I couldn’t pass it up. Yes the vignetting is a tad bothersome, however you can definitely work around it if you have understanding. Super sharp lens! Very creative.. it has texture. So to all the FULL FRAMERS don’t be afraid of it. You can utilize it!

I like the comparison of the canon name brand vs sigma it really gives you perspective on how much you get for what price. Right now I'm thinking about what lens would be best for me, right now I'm fairly certain I'm going to go with a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 is USM Lens. It's much better than my kit 15-45mm and provides all the right qualities for good video, although the pictures could be a little better I don't think many people would notice the very minor discoloration or sharpness changes in a full photo with it. I'm mainly sold on it for the smooth, silent and fast auto focus in video mode.

I own the 18-35, and I love it!! Absolutely stellar image quality. But then I do not own a full-frame camera, and as wonderful as the Sigma is, you really shouldn’t buy it unless it’s for an APS-C camera, I think. By the way, US prices are always very low: When I bought the Sigma, I paid 4995kr which is about $780, including taxes. Now the price is 6395kr or about $1009. The Canon 16-35 for comparison is around 15000kr or $2366.

@razvit
@razvit 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnthomas3941 The difference between the mark i, ii, and iii is mostly sharpness in the center/corners. So anything is OK, it depends on how much you crop and how big you want your prints. I make landscape photos and I only have 16-35 and 70-200. It covers landscape needs. I got an extra 50mm but that's mostly for portraits. Also keep in mind that 80d has an ASP-C sensor. So a 50 mm would be like a 75mm and a 16-35 would be like a 24-50mm. It's like that with all EF lenses except for the EF-S special ones.

the canon glass is obviously slightly superior, but if you're a beginner photographer, you'll likely have a crop sensor camera anyway, and the sigma is just the better value for money. no way the canon in that cas is worth almost triple the price. you might argue that the canon will hold it's value longer when you do graduate and switch up to a full frame camera, but honestly the sigma to this day is still worth as mucht (maybe more) as when it came out. so you'd have no problem selling it for a respectable sum and upgrading to another lens anyway. also, with all the evolution in mirrorless technology nowadays and sensors becoming increasingly more precise, you'd probably be better off ugrading to premium glass.

I use the Sigma on my EOS R for video.. 4k OR 1080 .. doesnt matter.. The trick I do is when I want 1080p, I use Full Frame read out, and the digital Stabilization on max and the vignette is gone due to the Stabilization Crop and I can run at F1.8.. You cant get that sort of stability with the 16-35 without sacrificing the wide aspect of it as well ( like the sigma).. So for me, the sigma is faster and cheaper and built like a dam tank ..

From our test and we didn't add that. It's really base on what camera you own. It's a known fact that mirrorless is better in low light when it comes to DSLR and Sony is way better in low light situations.

So far that is my biggest complaint of the Sigma Art series. I picked up an old Canon 80-200 F2.8L lens and that lens is tastefully sharp and has amazing skin tones on my GH5 and XL Speedbooster.

So here is my issue... Have a Sony a6000 and a Canon 6D Right now can only use mostly my a6000 and I was wondering if I should get a Sigma lens for both cameras to use with an adapter For example Sigma 18-35. Or thinking the other option: to get 2 lenses would be a Sigma 16mm f. 1.4 and a Rokinon 85mm manual focus for the Canon and Sony I think it would be almost the same price either way but sure what I should do or get to do great photography and videos anyway
@UNPLUGProductions

The second option sounds great actually. But have you tried renting and doing a dry run first? there's an online place where you can rent from photographers for really cheap called sharegrid.
@EOimages
@EOimages 2 жыл бұрын
@@UNPLUGProductions thanks! I am definitely considering the 2nd option the most as well, just to have versatile on both cameras and they can actually complement each other, even though the sigma would be only for my Sony I think is the best option to have a wide angle on a budget

Most sigma or tamron are budget lenses. The con is...they are for crop/apsc cameras..equivalent to efs lenses. Ef canon 16-35 is ff lense and 18-35 sigma is not its crop lens...get 17-40 or canon 16-35f4 with IS instead very expensive 16-35f2.8 or sigma 18-35 crop. Better yet is 24-105f4 with is.

@Troy_Sent_A_Message
@Troy_Sent_A_Message 4 жыл бұрын
Follow up: I bought the sigma 18-35mm, I also have the Canon 17-55mm 2.8/f IS. Comparing Sigma 18-35mm vs Canon 17-55mm, I would say the Sigma feels better built maybe a touch sharper and the zoom and focus rings are much much smoother (this is after my Canon was serviced by Canon 2 times). I don't worry about dust being sucked into the lens Like I do with the canon. The biggest negative that everyone knows about is no IS, and this is a huge factor when considering the Sigma. As for "missed" or "soft" focus. I would say missed focus are close, with sigma missing a few more, around 10-15% more misses wide open.
@UNPLUGProductions
@UNPLUGProductions 3 жыл бұрын
@@Troy_Sent_A_Message Yeah the lack of IS is something to consider with the Sigma, especially for video. We're thinking that it's not TOO huge of a factor since is a wider lens. But couldn't agree with you more on the build quality! It feels really good to hold

i have another question which one is better to have 50mm 1.8 or the 50mm 1.4 or do i buy the both of them or i only need one help me out cause they're cheap. my next door neighbor have a camera bag with 10 lens in it and he said he spend over 25,000 dollars and i was holding my head i think i only need 4 lens and call it a day. i can buy an expensive lens and don't know how to use it then i'm screwed and i don't waste money like that. here's what people are telling me they said i need a 24-70 f2.8 17-50 f2.8 and 50mm 1.8 and 18-35 f1.8 cause i already have a zoom lens. remember now my camera doesn't have video so i will get another camera that can shoot video and i will have lenses already.

Sigma has the 24-35mm f2, which doesn't have the same reach, but is the closest to the 18-35 on full frame. I'm considering this lens for the R6, or perhaps get a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8.

i plan to use the sigma 18-35mm, not for vlogging f=but for film, do you mainly use autofocus when filming, heard its noisy, i guess ill film mostly manual focus, but i rely sometimes for it to auto focus, like panning from an object to a person, hope this does well, i have a gh5. i plan to get one :D
@UNPLUGProductions
@UNPLUGProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Did you end up getting the Sigma? If you have a GH5 we can't recommend you rely on the focus tracking simply because... well, it's not what the GH5 is known for, haha! But we've filmed events ENTIRELY on the sigma and the image looks great! If your aperture is at a good place, between 2.8 and 4, you might be able to get away without having to refocus your shots (obviously depends on what you're filming)

Excellent info. Advice. I just purchased a Canon M6 Mark ll. I want mainly want to use it to shoot a series that I’m writing. Maybe four to six episodes in length of 23 to 25 minutes long. I want to start with two lenses (maybe a 3rd used one)and shoot around their capabilities. My list includes Sigma 16mm or Sigma 30 mm and a vintage, used 35 mm I know I need a zoom lenses (which may knock out the need for the others). I know there are a lot of variables. But what are you thoughts for a lense or lense range I really should have to shoot a short film? Preferably in the $300 to $600 range.
@UNPLUGProductions
@UNPLUGProductions 2 жыл бұрын
We definitely recommend a 24-70mm or a 35mm. We use that a lot for filming. If you want to look for something that does close-ups, then 85mm is the best option.
