I like this guy! This is what chess is about. It's about fun. Talking about pieces like they are numbers and letters isn't what attracts people; it's the mental battlefield and the thrill of creativity that excites the masses

Ben called out '1998 Missouri' when Mike mentioned the club champ :D Mike's most famous chess achievement turned on him in a satirical way, great lecture though!

In the game between Mike and some other guy... Seriously? I heard that Mike Kummer is 1700 USCF? I guess he was playing that game for fun, because that definitely isn't nowhere close to 1700 USCF... Unless USCF is much different from FIDE. He made a lot of mistakes in that game and his rook sacriface wasn't justified. Other than that, I guess this video is cool for beginners.

He is only rated 1700 something because most of his tournaments played are at this chess club he lectures at. He probably plays the same opponents and the time control is more so rapid rather than standard. You can check his stats on USCF player look up. His last serious nonclub tournament was march 2014. He played in the under 1700 category and placed 10th place with 3/5 points even at a rating of about 1692.
