i was wondering if that would work on non meta human charaters. I make my characters on Daz3d then import to UE5 and retarget the animations. but so far i have only used it to retarget simple walking animation or running but nothing to the face yet.

you need to convert them to metahuman, if they are realistic human then its more easy as DNA's can be easily transferred.

I managed to export animation into 5.4 project. Obviously you need to have proper skeleton in your project. the only thing is that 2 sec animation is 5 Mb, because it exports >2000 curves, most of which are flat.

Now how do you make this real time? Can you pipe the asset generation through C++? Or are the functions necessary not available at runtime.
